You can put the front rubber tires on the back drifter axle with some simple ingenuity. I also recommend taking the plastic seat out and replacing with a flat one from a folding chair to buy precious space for us adults. You cannot reuse the 24 volt power switch when switching to a 36 volt or 48 volt controller because the original switch limits voltage for some strange reason.

Good shit. I just bought a used ground force drifter for my daughter and the control module is bad. Perfect excuse for me to start moddin the hell out of it. Lol. How do you think 3, 18v Dewalt drill batteries wired in series would do? Dare I try?
@zach_wolfe7 жыл бұрын
Boyer Dan your biggest issue with the drill batteries will be the lack of amp hours, which equates to a very short run time. The batteries I used were the 12v 12ah batteries. They make larger capacity batteries (higher ah) but the physical size of the battery increases and it's tough to put more batteries in the small rear end of the go kart. I actually started out modding an electric pocket bike by adding a couple of remote control car batteries to my setup. I found a setup called the +5 kit from eBay. It's where I learned to push more volts to the motor for more RPMs. Good luck in your modding!
@Mike_Greene2 жыл бұрын
I went from the stock 36 on the drifter to ezip400 wheels with the disc brake and 60t(?) Sprocket and I can feel the 2-3 or so mph speed difference. But it's much more fun to be able to hit the throttle and take off fast! I'm using brushless controller w reverse. Using a throttle that has both an on of button that I use for/connected to reverse and a "3 speed" switch that connected to the controller. I just wanted to see if I could use the thumb throttle with 48v because the kart is so compact, it's uncomfortable using the for throttle. Especially when turning because for high speed turns, I have to extend my turn side leg. (And not is THAT a workout lol legs and an workout, also arms as holding on is also challenging.)

I did not replace the chain. As mentioned in my parts list, you need to get a dual D-bore sprocket for a #25 chain (Ebay about $7). I used the original chain, but depending upon the motor mounts you made, you might have to get a longer one to make it fit your setup.

So the drifter comes with 2 wheel drive without any modifications?
@zach_wolfe5 жыл бұрын
David Facio Unless things have changed in the last few years, the drifter is 2-wheel drive with hard plastic wheels for drifting. The regular ground force is 1-wheel drive with harder rubber wheels for better traction.

@zach_wolfe6 жыл бұрын
Bri O If you are referring to the bumpy ride on asphalt or any surface that isn’t smooth, there is no solution to that. It’s the result of the hard rubber tires.
@aleanufopilotftlcertified56636 жыл бұрын
Maybe look for a different tire compound and size that's compatible with the rims. Softer will be smoother but probably too "sticky" to drift.

Would there be an option to run tires that don't spin out?
@zach_wolfe7 жыл бұрын
bimmerman1 I have not been able to find a "better" wheel solution. I suppose the stock rubber wheels that come on the Ground Force provide better traction but if you are a bigger rider, you run the risk of broken axles. If you swap axles with the Ground Force Drifter, you lose the free-spinning wheel and will have some turning issues cause by a 2-wheel drive system. I even looked into the larger rubber wheels from the Razor Dune Buggy but was told the axles for the dune buggy have a bigger diameter at the wheel connection point so that won't work either. If you (or anyone else) finds another wheel solution, I would love to hear about it.
@tammykletecka41162 жыл бұрын
Why didn’t you just use lithium power tool batteries? Just saying,
@zach_wolfe2 жыл бұрын
Power tool batteries are extremely limited in size and therefore have low (amp hours / ah) which equals short run times. The batteries I used are 12v 12ah batteries. Most power tool batteries are 3ah or less regardless of volts.

Im working on this now for my kids, We have a razor drifter that works but lost charger, how do you know how long to charge the 48v set up for and if I went with 36v instead of 48v would it make a diff in speed as its for a 100lb rider. Also if Im starting with an intact razor drifter version any variations I need to be aware of from your instructions? i.e do i need to change the sprocket diameter on drifter axle etc.... we have it completely stripped down to paint just want to get my parts list right before we spray.
@zach_wolfe6 жыл бұрын
Jon Jones You will need to get the correct voltage charger (36v or 48v). The chargers automatically shut off main charging and go into trickle charge mode once the batteries are full. A completely drained 36v or 48v battery setup takes about 2 to 3 hours to fully charge and lasts about 45min to an hour of run time. The sprocket size on both the standard ground force and the drifter should be the same size. Good luck with your build!
@zach_wolfe6 жыл бұрын
Jon Jones I forgot to answer your 36v vs 48v speed question. Both motors have the same RPM rating. In order to get the most speed possible, you will want to use a 48v battery setup and controller to push a 36v motor. With a 100 lb rider you shouldn’t have the controller overheating issue that you will get with heavier riders. If your goal is top speed, go with this setup. If you want longevity (aka: least amount of possible issues) go with a straight 36v or 48v setup. I’d personally recommend the straight 36v setup. Less batteries to replace over time and lighter overall setup.
