You should definitely continue reacting to old emo band interviews btw. There's this one BMTH interview from like 2008 where Oli Sykes briefly mentions how he prefers Blackout by Britney Spears over her following album Circus. I think about it all the time.

i read that time goes faster as you get older because adult life provides less novelty. as a kid you’re experiencing everything for the first time and it’s all new. as an adult a lot of our daily routines are repetitive lol

I’m not sure I’d entirely agree with uncritically saying Brendon Urie IS a company man, you could argue he was at one point but he definitely isn’t anymore. The entire PFTW era was just him getting strong armed into doing things. He did not make PFTW by choice, he was forced to immediately start making it only days after his run on Kinky Boots ended (which is probably why that album was so broadway/theater kid). He was also forced to record ME with Taylor Swift when he was ill with a 106 degree fever. Then after his death scare at the end of the PFTW tour he apparently put his foot down in some ways and after the pandemic he seemingly lost any interest in trying to please the suits he ever had. A tape based 70s arena rock album like Viva Las Vengeance is not the kind of album you make when the label wants and expects High Hopes 2. It was apparently intentionally made with no regard for commercial success as that was the only way producer Jake Sinclair could convince Brendon to do anything at that point. I don’t think everyone who’s made money off him in the last decade or so is too happy about him dropping Panic to drum for his friends’ comparatively tiny projects either. If you do revisit Viva, I’d recommend digging a little into producer/songwriter/performer Mike Viola’s solo work (and his more recent stuff with Brendon and Jake). His presence is so heavy on Viva once you’re aware of it that it’s hard to unhear it once you have. I liked Viva when I first heard it but getting into Viola’s stuff unlocked so much more of it to me and helped me get it a lot better.

Favourite comment!! VLV feels like such a genuine, raw album to me. It feels more personal and introspective than anything Brendon's written and I think people should appreciate it more :')

@@alcalar3637 after the PFTW tour, like the last day of the europe leg in April 2019, he took a nap in his hotel room before going to the airport. He literally passed out for a long time and even being shook very hard couldn't wake him. Like Zach, his bodyguard, thought he was dead, and apparently freaked out. Brendon was sooo tired.
@V-grandraccoon
@V-grandraccoon Жыл бұрын
@@karenz7380 yeah it was bad enough they literally had to break down his door and even that didn’t wake him. His body basically just shut down. Apparently Zach telling that story to management got the message through to go easier on Brendon which is why he mostly took the rest of 2019 off outside of making demos (that would be abandoned during the pandemic) which he wasn’t forced to finish and make into songs ASAP unlike in 2017. It’s also why on the eventual VLV tour they generally didn’t have concerts on back to back days and that’s why there was a decent gap between the US leg ending in October and the Europe leg in mid February.

Please revisit VLV! I think it's a very special album. It feels to me like a complex love letter to the fans and a farewell. Kind of an acknowledgement that he can no longer fulfil this role of the rockstar frontman, but appreciating how we helped make his dreams come true. He identifies with us and relates to us. We were all once just kids who lived for the next show, the intense emotions that music can bring, then he got to go out and create that music for us! Plus, personally, I love how the production is so stripped back - a world of difference from PFTW. I like being able to clearly hear each layer: the vocals, the harmonies, the guitars, the drums, all of it. It makes the album feel very down to earth, like 3 guys just having a blast, making music that makes them happy. V special album!!

Maaaan, this was awesome to watch. As someone who went to the Pretty Odd tour (remember Motion City, Phantom Planet, and Hush Sound opened) in 7th grade in 2008. And then only 2-3 years later found myself at the inevitable NEVERSHOUTNEVER club shows. I completely understand everything you said there hahaha. To this day Pretty Odd is still my favorite panic record. I hope one day the 4 can play some shows together down the road of the first two albums.

2021 - 2023 picked up where 2020 left off. 2020 did not leave much in the canon. The general public just wishes there was a machine invented somehow to wipe 2020 out of our memories (in a retrospective way of course).

if you're reacting to interviews, may i recommend the 'jason' FOB interview? it's a great example of the band just commiting to the bit and yes and-ing from the start and just doing everything to derail the interview and control the narrative. it's a horrible interview, but that's the fun, you know :)

I think the reason time may seem faster is partially because you’re older so your identity is more stable and you know who you are more. You also have more years under your belt so a year seems like less of a huge stretch of time. When you’re 9 a year is a 9th of your life which is a lot but in your 20s it doesn’t seem quite as huge. However, I was in my freshmen year of high school when the pandemic started and i’m 19 now so i’m a very different person. 2020 still doesn’t feel like 4 years ago to me and the passage of time is a lot faster than i remember from when i was a kid but that could also be because i was going from like 8 to 10 and that’s a huge difference.

dude, that time warp point you made is so real. i think michael vsauce made a video abt it. basically, when you're 16, a year is 1/16th of your life, but when you're 30, it's only 1/30th, so it feels like it goes by quicker. also, pandemic and fast-entertainment makes you forget things quicker whereas the internet and TV entertainment was slower in the 2000s.

I feel like tech and music slowed down since 2013. There was such a big difference in everything before then. 2008 music sounds boring like 2012 music but music from 2015 and 2023 are similar.

I remember being 17 in 2008 and thinking Ryan's hard left into the 60s aesthetic was so inauthentic. My emo ass and all my emo friends had always listened to the Beatles and Hendrix and other 60s stuff but we didn't think we had to make it our whole personality. Looking back I guess I just hated Ryan's weird speaking voice and haircut around this time

pretty odd is easily one of the best albums to happen to the genre ever (its part of why panic specifically is considered one of the big three imo; the innovation of it all) and ryans big fucking brain would have pushed panic to heights unknown had they continued together bc he was so obviously the creative brain behind so much of their uniqueness; instead brendon became rich by making evermore soulless, empty music no one listens to today and pulling all of pretty odd off his set list for those joke concerts he gives these days is the least but most emblematic of his crimes against us 😭
