Yooo you were actually right about the brother thing with Bedman. Bedman was a villain in the previous game, and died in that same story arc. He fights being strapped to a mechanical bed, and in his final moments he merged his soul with the bed and gave it the order to protect his little sister.

If you want to learn more about the lore, there is a series called "Heaven or Hell", each part roughly 40~ minutes. The character themes also have a surface level lore, and the music itself is kinda of the core of how Guilty Gear started. Tons of references and inspirations by the author.

funny you say Axl reminds you of Billy Cane, he was initially inspired on Billy's design. the first GG game was VERY inspired by Fatal Fury, the biggest examples being Axl and Sol, who's gameplay was almost identical to Terry Bogard's in that game (he's since deviated slightly from that formula)

5:52 so... Arcsys has put Ruby characters into a fighting game, though not for their own stand alone game. Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Neo were all playable in Blazblue Cross Tag Battle, a tag team fighter made as a crossover between Arcsys' other sprite based fighters (Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena, and Under Night In Birth) as well as a few other guest characters. BBTAG was one of Arcsys' main tournament games while Strive was getting promoted, which is why Ruby shows up at the end of some of the older trailers. Its a fun game, highly recommend it if you enjoy insane tag fighters.

If nagoriyuki was just a black raiden-looking samurai, this would've been not up to the standard to other guilty gear characters. Therefore, he is also a vampire... P.s. try not to make sence of anything and just accept the insanity of the lore. For example: One time I-no went back in time to kill younger and weaker Sol, just to not deal with stronger present Sol. After she did that, she still encountered present Sol. Sol is so badass, that he didnt gave enough fuck to follow the time parodox bullshit...

I love Guilty Gear, it has some of the best characters, story, music, just everything of any fighting game. It's largely the lovechild of Daisuke Ishiwatari, who designs all the characters, writes their stories, and composes all the music, he's just goated. He's a big fan of music from all over the world so pretty much every character has at least a couple music references, like how Sol Badguy's real name, Fredrick Bulsara, is a reference to Freddie Mercury's real name. The awesome thing about Strive in particular is that each characters theme is a full length rock/metal/jazz/pop song with lyrics that are all about their stories, and believe me each of these characters has their own amazing story to tell, they could each be their own main character. It can be confusing to figure out how to consume the full series story, but if you wanna get caught up before the anime drops I'll explain a couple ways. First of all, the main games are as follows: Missing Link, X, XX (XX has a bunch of rerelease versions that have some extra stories too, but they're not 100% canon), Overture (which is actually a MOBA), Xrd (there's Xrd SIGN, and Xrd Revelator, which is an upgraded version of SIGN that directly continues the story, and then a definitive version of Revelator called REV2), and then finally Strive. There are also a bunch of Drama CDs and visual novels that some self contained but relevant stories, and some extra lore tucked away across artbooks and stuff. Sounds daunting right? If you don't wanna go thru literally every game here are some other options. WoolieVersus has a series of KZbin videos explaining the story of Guilty Gear in detail, spanning from the beginning up until the end of Revelator (the videos were released before Strive), the presentation on them is excellent, they cover pretty much everything including the hard to access stuff, and there's only a handful of mistakes but you'll come out of it grasping everything pretty much. There's also the Guilty Gear story digest comics, available on the Guilty Gear website for free, a short collection of comics that very briefly goes through the main plot up until the end of Overture, with only a brief tease of Xrd at the end. It's a quick and easy read with some great artwork in it but it does leave a lot out in favor of staying brief, and Xrd is obviously missing. Xrd and Strives story modes both have zero gameplay in them, meaning you can pretty much just watch them like movies, they're 5 hours each and Xrd actually has two of them (one for SIGN and one for Revelator), altho both Xrd games also has a collection of arcade mode stories that lead into their respective story modes, but Woolies videos do cover the arcade modes at the end of episode 4 and beginning of episode 6 respectively. Xrds story modes are all officially uploaded on ArcSys's KZbin channel for free as well. Strive has just one 5 hour story mode and then a 40 minute DLC story, and the arcade modes in that game all take place after the story. The anime takes place some time after Strives story. I think just reading the digest comics, even tho they leave out a lot, will at least help you with understanding the *main* plot of the anime, but things like some of supporting characters stories like Ramlethal, Elphelt, Bridget, Baiken, might go over your head, since Bridget and Baikens stories are more self contained and Ram and El didn't exist until Xrd which isn't covered by the comics. There's always the GG wiki tho, and the games themselves also have a resource called GG World (the GG wiki also has sections for most of what GG World contains if you're not tryna open the game), which in Strive at least, contains things like a glossary, timeline, and character relationships chart, so if you're missing any info the glossary especially would probably help. It's just up to you how much you wanna prepare if at all lol. I'm really excited for the anime, it features Sin taking up the mantle of series protagonist after Sols retirement which has been a long time coming, Sin is an amazing character I'm excited to see him have the spotlight. He's basically the Rock Howard to Sols Terry Bogard if that makes sense. The supers in Strive are all really cool, just keep in mind that some of them are like buff supers or resource refills rather than flashy attacks, like Happy Chaos's super focus. You might wanna look at the Instant Kills in Xrd tho. Every game in the series except for Strive (and Overture) have special supers called Instant Kills that are extremely hard to land but if they connect they end the round instantly (in Missing Link they ended the whole match which was really goofy lol), and in Xrd especially the animations for them are amazing. Strive doesn't have them because the game was developed during the pandemic which made development hard, and Instant Kills take a lot of effort to make and don't effect the actual game that much outside of casual play, but they've always been open to the idea of adding them in an update eventually so who knows what'll happen.

First time for me watching, good video. Nice how you picked up on a lot of the elements of these characters. I would say to look into each characters' respective songs, which says a lot more. On a side note, the lore does go deep with most of the characters, as others already pointed out. Though, I think I will contribute with why the series is called Guilty Gear. Basically, Gears are biological weapons and super soldiers, with currently living Gears being Sol, Dizzy, Testament, I-no, and Sin as a sort of half Gear. It's almost similar with the Valentines. In the game timelines, Sol and Ky are the main characters who fight Testament, whom revives the dead Gear, Justice. Justice was once Sol's love until things went south. Next game, it's discovered that before her death, I'm assuming the first one, Justice gave birth to Dizzy who was hidden away. It turns out Testament survived, who had changed for the better thanks to Dizzy. After some conflict, Dizzy goes to live with the Jellyfish Pirates, who's members include May and Johnny. After a while, Ky and Dizzy get married and Dizzy gives birth to Sin. Due to all the weird stuff with Gears and the like, Sin has a monstrous growth spurt and is trained by his grandfather, Sol. To give an idea what this monstrous growth spurt is, Sin is 5 years old in Strive. If that wasn't crazy enough, Jack O is sorta a reincarnation of Justice, but Jack O isn't a Gear herself. Hence the whole thing with Aria, which is who Justice was before she became destructive. As for I-no, she's basically gone rogue, doing her own thing as an antagonist due to time and space being all screwed up, which has in turn forced Axl from his time period into the timeline of Guilty Gear. Though, Axl finally develops time manipulation abilities, which is used in Strive. I-no also attempts to change the world by attempting to transform everyone into a god. She works with Happy Chaos to achieve this, which involves getting Nagoriyuki to work with them. As to how I-no get's this power, there is Asuka, who was referred to as "That Man" since the early days as a background presence. Asuka is basically the reason why some people either become or birth Gears. Asuka also at some point changes Sol back into a human. Oddly enough, that is a very simple explanation.

Arcsys included Team RWBY and Neo in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and I think published/produced the RWBY Arrowfell game made by Wayforward, if I remember correctly... Which is a platformer rather than a fighting game, but yeah... It would be cool if they could make a full RWBY fighting game, but I'm not sure if that would be easily financially viable... Fighting games and RWBY are still somewhat niche... That said, maybe a decent fighting game could really boost the franchise if the risk pays off... Things are a little up in the air right now though, given that RWBY was only somewhat recently picked up by Viz Media after RoosterTeeth was shut down and everything... Maybe Viz will want to push the franchise or maybe they'll barely do anything with it... We'll have to wait and see.

This game has some batshit insane lore. But it isn't told very well at all. Sadly the anime will probably end up gatekeeping a lot of people for this reason.
