It's interesting, in some ways Obi Wan is the perfect Jedi, always mindful of his feelings as he often tried to teach Anakin. It's natural to have them but how you chose to act on or ignore them is important and Obi followed his Jedi code and didn't get attached. He let go of those he loved, the thing Anakin couldn't do which led to his turn to the dark side, but in a way this is where the Jedi were wrong. In the end Obi let go of Anakin whereas Luke never did, he had faith the good was still in him. And that love Anakin had for his son is what made him turn on the Emperor, it's what saved the galaxy.

Obi wan was literally the ideal and perfect Jedi. He lost everything in his life that he ever cared about, his love Satine, his Master and mentor Qui Gon, his brother Anakin and the Jedi Order that he fought for and was his only home. And still, he never once turned to the dark side, even after he lost everything he stood by the Jedi Code. But of course he never allways just followed the Jedi code blindly, that's what sets him apart from so many others. He knew the Jedi and the Jedi Code had flaws and disagreed with the council many times. He stood by what a true Jedi should be and that's why he's my favourite character in Star Wars.

Great points - Obi-Wan endured as many hardships and struggles as anyone else in the series, and yet he always kept his focus, composure, and resilience. You can tell he was a man of integrity who always tried to do the right thing. I think my favorite Obi-Wan line is in A New Hope: when Han Solo said he believes in luck and not the Force, Obi-Wan replies, "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck." This rings especially true when you think back on all the tough fights he was involved in, and all the times he barely survived after being just an inch away from death. If he had died at any one of those points, the whole history of the saga would've gone very differently. Anakin might've gone dark at an earlier point, there might’ve been no one to guide Luke, etc. etc.

Kenobi was a true Knight. Tried his best to follow his Orders code and was tested like no other, it was his compassion that allowed Vader to Rise and spread horror across the galaxy, a failure in the Test of Attachment. His love was so overwhelming for his student/friend/little brother that he could not deal the killing strike on Mustafar. In my mind I believe Obiwan was thinking on this in his final moments, which I believe was half the reason he allowed Vader to strike him down. A symbolic sacrifice not only to help Vader's son escape but also to Atone for the death and destruction caused by his former student

Here is a man that fought the chosen one on a dark side nexus (which gives users of the dark side an amp) and still won. Here is a man that fought the top two Jedi killers of all time, and defeated them both (Vader, and Grievous). Here is a man that has failed many many times, in many ways, he failed to save his father figure, failed to stop Count Dooku, failed to save the love of his life in duchess Satine, failed to save his friend from the dark side, and failed to finish that friend in order to save the galaxy. But despite that failure this man refused to turn to the dark sides though he had more reason to than Anakin. Here is a man who remained true to his beliefs and ideals as he watched the universe fall apart around him, as he watched the man he had raised kill all of his friends, and destroy the Jedi order to which he had given his life to. Here is a man that despite all that had happened to him he remained a light in the darkness. Here is a man… Here is Kenobi.

The Scene of Obi-Wan finally killing Maul on Tatooine is one of the strongest in Star Wars history. It shows so much compassion and forgiveness of Kenobi after all that Maul took from him. First he kills the former Sith nearly in a blink of an eye as if to say “I could have done this a long time ago but I always saw a chance of you stepping out of the dark.” And then he grants him an honorable death by holding him and closing his eyes. Obi-Wan only killed Maul to fulfill his final mission, keeping Luke save.

When you watch the Duel on Mustafar between Anakin and Obi-Wan, then you hear Uncle Ben say "I don't think he [Obi-Wan] exists anymore; he died about the same time as your father [Anakin," you realize he's not entirely wrong. Anakin and Obi-Wan DID die on Mustafar; instead what emerged from the planet resembling hell was something else - Ben Kenobi and Darth Vader. Obi-Wan's ideal optimism and his endurance died with Anakin's humanity (though with Anakin, he would be consumed by blackness from the flames - the same blackness that surrounds him for the rest of his life as Vader in the form an armor/coffin/hell). Also, the Episode III video game titles the Mustafar duel level as "Friendship in Flames."

It wasn’t till after I watched the clone wars tv show I realised Anakin and a Obi-wan’s lives mirrored each other as Jedi. Obi-wan made the light side choices in regards to love and loss, but Anakin ended up making the opposite choices when presented with the same situations. It’s such an amazing story. Ob1 looses his father figure in his master. Anakin lost his mother. Ob1 fell in love but remained true to the Jedi code where as Anakin married his love. Anakin turned to the dark side when faced with the loss of his wife. Ob1 stayed true to the living force and let her go when maul killed her. The parallels between them both is fantastically well written. I presume the character of Luke Skywalker knew these stories and I presume It would have been central to his teaching. The failures of his father and Ob1. The failure of the Jedi order during that time. This is why I have such a hard time understanding the logic of not telling Ben Solo these stories. After all he was struggling just like his grandfather had done in the past. I’m starting to think the sequel movies where poorly researched and Disney just presumed as they where dealing with such a big and well known franchise their directors and writers would know the story inside out automatically. As we all know now that was not the case. The same thing happened with the last two seasons of game of thrones in my opinion. Anyway have a good day everyone. I have loved all your reactions Gaxelle throughout your first time through the Star Wars saga.

To be fair Obi Wan was practically born into that flawed Jedi Order, he had a lot of advantages that Anakin never had. Anakin was born into slavery, he had to endure beatings, and all kinds of humiliation from Watto, he even saw kids sold to Jabba the Hutt. Anakin suffered from trauma due to being wrenched away from his mom Shmi, and he was thrust into a Jedi Order that stifled his emotions, and didn’t give him the kind of support or compassion that he desperately needed. Anakin also had to endure years of pain and misery as Darth Vader. Anakin has experienced more suffering than Obi Wan ever had. While it may be true that Obi Wan overcame numerous things it doesn’t mean that he didn’t make his share of mistakes, or that he was always right about everything. Anakin was able to hold onto some goodness and to turn away from the dark side thanks to the love of his son Luke. I think that even though Anakin gave into the dark side that in the end he was a stronger person than even Obi Wan. I’m not sure if even Obi Wan would’ve been strong enough to turn away from the dark side the way that Anakin did. Obi Wan said it himself when he told Anakin that he had become a far greater Jedi than he could ever hope to be.
