I don't know this guy's story, but it sounds like he probably succumbed to a phishing scam, and blind signed an insecure transaction that ended up being a scam smart contract to drain his funds. I'm sure he'll swear up and down that's not possible, but it's far more possible than an air gapped hardware wallet being hacked

I agree. Always a good idea to have multiple cold wallets with specific ones that are used to interact with sites/ smart contracts and others that never interact with that stuff. Then decentralize your funds accordingly

The offline device can send your private key inside transactions. If you can't check the code, you don't know what nonce was used to generate a signature

I certainly hope so. I did have a hot wallet for my Waves Crypto. The seed phrase was in a sealed bag in my banks security box. I even turn off my phone, Alexa and video Cam on the PC when writing these things down. It got hacked and I traced my funds to a swap site for Monero and there it ended. This was NOT the NGRAVE cold walllet ... This was a Waves Hot wallet on my phone. Still questioning how those funds got taken.

I don't like how ngraves recovery phrase has the the built in programe to alter the recovery phrase. If a wallet were to have a back door , that'd be it.

Which program to alter the recovery phrase are you referring to? They have no way of generating it on your behalf or manipulating it.

The NGRAVE “Perfect Key” is a combination of two parts that are mathematically combined into a single key: 1. a random part of bits that is generated by the TRNG chip inside the ZERO; 2. a random part of bits that comes from your biometrics (your fingerprint) and the surrounding light (proven to be a powerful source of randomness). After this key is made, you as a user can still change parts of the key in a smart interaction process. That way, you can be sure that even NGRAVE has no idea of what the value of your key might be. The proposed keys are based on the 2 previous inputs and will always be different and thus unpredictable.

You CAN program a fingerprint of someone else you trust (if you want) or theres a option to not activate it if you dont want to use it
