Now Whataburger was mentioned. Whataburger's origins are from a seaside city called Corpus Christi, Texas. Their menu was always quite varied. My favorite was always a burger with sauteed mushrooms. Then in 2019 they were bought out by an investment firm in Chicago. Texans were outraged, but were promised the food would remain unchanged. In less than a year Texans noticed not only a change to offered menu items, but the flavors that make Whataburger, a Whataburger were gone. Most of my friends and family rarely visit this establishment anymore.

I remember visiting my dad in TX in the 90's and having Whataburger and it was amazing. I was really excited when they opened locations in TN last year, but the food was so disappointing. I will say their milkshakes were great.

For fried chicken here is a recipe. I would suggest soaking in buttermilk for 30 min to 4 hours(longer is better). Then bread using flour mixed with pepper, salt, and a lesser amount of cayenne pepper. Then eat with some mashed potatoes and some green beans cooked in bacon fat.

Yep, that’s it. If you want to add a little extra kick, I mix the juice from a jar of picked jalapeños in with the buttermilk brine.

@@imbateman Personally I don't like Jalapenos. They kinda taste like grass. Hatch chilies however actually have a good taste and are probably about the same heat value.

@@vagabondwastrel2361 I’m in Albuquerque, so I’m all about the hatch chili. I don’t put jalapeños in, just some of the vinegar brine they are pickled in. Also, you’re eating unripe jalapeños if they taste like grass. Hatch chili can taste like grass also if not ripe. The brine from dill pickles also gives it a little something extra. That said, the classic recipe is hard to beat.

A quart of a mile from my house we have: McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy's, KFC, A&W, Popeye's, Jack in the Box, Panda Express, Subway, IHOP, Applebee's and a local Taco place. Three miles away we have another, McDonalds, Arby's, Sonic, Wingstop, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa John's, Carl's Jr, Chik Fil A, Culvers, Jersey Mike's, Noodle's and Co along with a few other's I can't think of. We do take out about once or twice a month and we usually just get subs from Jersey Mike's. To say we have many options for fast food, would be putting it mildly.

Went to Roscoe’s while I was in LA for a conference. It was delicious, but because of its notoriety the wait was quite extensive so plan with that in mind if you try it sometime. The very best chicken and waffles I’ve ever had were from Hattie B’s, which has locations in Nashville and Memphis (if you ever visit Nashville, def try Prince’s, the original hot chicken!). Sweets are not usually my downfall but the waffle from Hattie B’s was heaven. Definite last meal contender (they also had brilliant banana pudding).

WhataBurger is a teaxes based hamburger chain. Texas is full of snowfalkes so if you don't like Whataburger, and it's issue is a huge lack of consistency from restaurant to restaurant, they start crying.

There are so many good fried chicken restaurants, and a pretty good variety of flavors, but the best chicken is what someone brings to a gathering, or fixes for lunch on Sunday, especially when it's someone's mom or grandma who made it.

The best fast food gravy I've had is Chicken Express. It's pretty much only in Texas, but nothing beats some of their tenders with the spicy Serendipity seasoning, dipping them in gravy with mashed potatoes and fried okra. Their sweet tea is so sweet you'll instantly get diabetes so it's best to do half sweet and half unsweet.

A good fried chicken place always has fried gizzards and livers. I live near Seattle; we have Ivar"s seafood chain. very good fresh fish! We also have Ezell's chicken. They are one of the best. We have a mall in Bellevue (across the water to the east of Seattle) called Crossroads; it has about 15 types of ethnic restaurants all in one food court.

I would normally fix chicken livers myself. But I do know of one place that is excellent. You get an order of 6 that are really large with fries & a biscuit. Not many fast food places with grave. Whataburger has good gravy. Brahm's I hear is good. Dairy Queen has small portions of 'dipping gravy'. Texas whataburger is the same as Arizona. They have very tight quality control. LOL!! You hear the same about California In & Out vs In & Out anywhere else.

I am not sure, but I think this is a "chicken place" that also serves breakfast, so they could get waffles. They didn't actually serve them a chicken and waffles plate. They are in Los Angeles, and I would not swear that the concept of chicken and waffles has traveled to California. It is more of a Southern thing. I pronounce giblets the same as you. Again, this is California and who knows where this server is from. Anyway, I have not bought a whole chicken in a long time, but they used to come with the giblets packed inside (like turkeys come) and we fried them up like all the other pieces. I liked the gizzard and the heart, but my dad was the only one who would eat the liver.

I'm sorry to Europe but the reactions & comments from Josh & Olly should let you that we have better food here especially in the South ijs The best fried chicken fast food would be Popeyes!

Americans dont eat as much fast food as British people think. As a country we consume a lot of it but individually we dont eat every meal at a fast food place. Most of us, like myself, rarely est fast food except maybe on a road trip or in a huge rush on work lunch maybe. A lot if us avoid it as much as possible. The place on this video, Roscoes, isnt fast food. There are only a few of them and they are only in LA I believe.

I pronounce the giblets like you do. Never heard it the way the server said it. Someone should correct him because if you look it up it's JIBLETS, lol. Waffle House is fast food so Roscoe's is WAY better because it's a proper sit down/make a reservation restaurant. I know people love Waffle House but I personally have more respect for my insides than to eat there, lol. Texans are a very proud people so the fact that he DARED to try the chain restaurant in a different state was basically fighting words...shot across the bow, LOL! To answer your question, I suspect a number of things contributes to the US being better at fast food and especially fried chicken. 1. we actually use spices, lol, in EVERY aspect of cooking/baking. 2. there are food safety standards/procedures/quality control that are followed here that I know are not universally done. Now sure you can get the dive joints that provide food options but it's not their focus but those don't count. You don't follow the guidelines by LAW, you will be shut down and out of business faster than you can say "Welcome to...". 3. if you don't experiment and put forth a GREAT item, no matter how simple or complex, you won't have a successful restaurant because NOBODY is paying for crappy food. Plus fast food chains can be hilariously competitive (on their signage). There was literally a Popeye's vs. Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich war when Popeye's first introduced theirs. There's a funny meme out there that states one day your grandkids will ask about the pandemic of 2020 and the reply is that "it all started with a chicken sandwich", LOL. 4. you gotta love what you're doing or you're just not going to have a great product. Working at anything because you HAVE to is worse than because you WANT to. The US LOVES food. We LOVE making people happy through food so I think that's why we put so much into it than most countries. Because we are nation made of up EVERY nation in the world, we have that diversity of cuisine that's unmatched everywhere.
