I watched this video back in middle school (i am 23 now) and it really helped me get over a huge insecurity which was my crooked smile. I slowly stopped covering it when I laughed and stopped wishing that I could get braces. Just got a little clarity. The woman who got the surgery in the video and then had her husband pretty much cheat on her wasn't Melanie it was a girl on TV. Melanie switched the channel after sitting back down and stumbled across that. Which is why after she watched it she took the wig and padding off realizing what she was trying to do wasn't right.

“Don’t be dramatic, it’s only some plastic. No one will love you if you’re unattractive!” Bro that line pains me yet I love it. It speaks what almost everyone thinks at some point in our lives. People say that “looks don’t matter”, but everyone tries to be pretty and appealing so they can get a lover. People feel ugly so they try to make themselves pretty with makeup, plastic surgery, dressing up, or acting differently just to suit the group or person they want to be with. The saddest thing is, is that you don’t notice your own beauty, you only see the “ugly” views in your own reflection. Whether it be pimples, face shape, body weight, your hair and just everything else about you. You’re all so beautiful even if you don’t realise it. Stay safe, and don’t change yourself for someone even if they tell you to. That just proves that this person/people only want you for your looks/appearance/personality. Stay yourself and only change for yourself. Love yourselves!💗

"Don't be dramatic, it's only some plastic. No one'll love you if you're unattractive." "Will a pretty face make it better?" "Do you swear you'll stay forever, even if her face don't stay together?" God, Melanie's songwriting is just incredible! She tells the story and sums up our feelings perfectly in just a few simple sentences. I adore her music, but this song is absolutely one of my favorites. And you know it never ends when it comes to appearances in our society. Someone could have every single physically attractive quality that society says you need to have and guess what? They'll still find something wrong! There is no such thing as perfection, we all have flaws and they're all beautiful. I still struggle with body image issues but I try to combat that by pointing out the parts of me I do like and accepting the parts that I struggle with but can't change. To anyone who's struggling right now, know that who you are is enough. You are beautiful just as you are, please don't ever change yourself to fit into the mold society wants or to please another person. Let your beautiful self shine through!

When I was a teen, my uncle told me I should look more like the girl on the other table, she was wearing shorts and a tank top, and sneakers, her hair was curled with no frizz, she had makeup on, she looked very pretty I was wearing jeans and a shirt, hair all frizzy and wearing tennis shoes. I felt so depressed, I was 13, and after that, I used my birthday money or Christmas money to buy some foundation/bb cream, blush, eyeliner, lipstick and masara and I practiced using makeup, I wore them all the time and the same uncle looked at me during a vacation and told me that I should look like my aunt, no lipstick no foundation and just some mascara and eyeshadow and he told me I was wearing too much for my age. I felt it again, depression creeping up on me, and I know, no matter what I'd do they'll point something out. It was sick! I'm 25 years old now and happily married with a wonderful husband who makes me feel beautiful no matter what time or day, I don't wear makeup that often anymore and I'll wear them if I feel like it.

I love the uncensored horror that Mrs Potato Head portrays. I never cared about my appearance as a girl, until the people around me start to make comments about how I look and how I dress and make me uncomfortable in my own skin. This kind of beliefs often aren't with a person when they're borned, they've been trained to doubt themselves this way by society. I've never gone to the extreme of physically changing myself for someone, and just like Crybaby, I needed to see the pain that comes with trying to fit someone's beauty standard when it isn't truly you.

Melanie is absolutely my favorite artist out there. Some may call her fans 'pick me's', because she's so different from other artist and may sometimes make 'pick me' songs, but I completely disagree. Her music isn't pick me, it's story telling, and can sometimes help people with their trauma recovery and all. I myself didn't grow up traumatized, I just really like her music, but that doesn't change the fact that it can really make you realize how it feels to be in those situations. I do kinda relate to this song though, as I myself was too a victim of the female body standards, and I'm still on my ed recovery. Though I never got got as far as plastic surgery, this song still gets to me, since I know how it feels to want to fit in the standards.

The man in the video portrays as society. Society sets a beauty standard that if you don’t have the look, you won’t be loved or attractive. In my point of view, the young lady obv. Was already beautiful because she grew into her mother’s face but she allowed society to change her because she didn’t let the beauty standard of a slim body, perky lips and blond hair. The lyrics speaks for itself as well as the meaning. You were already beautiful the way you are, you don’t need to change anything of it or for anyone. I always tell myself that if I have to change myself for another person to love me, then they're not worth having my love! I am a huge Melanie fan please do more of her videos they have huge morals.

I like how he enjoys the song but also tells people who have this insecurity that they are pretty how they are

That's the music that touch my heart the most, because that was the 2 video of her that i had listened to and i was around 10 years i guess?(Or 12, something like), and i ALWAYS had some problem with my appearance and i was almost getting depressed because of it, because i saw that "our image is better than our personality", that people would always judge you for the way your smile is, the way your eyes are and etc. I cried every time i listened to it.

I am a male and i can confirm that beauty standards suck. I remember being 5 and watching TV with my dad and i noticed in every movie we watched, there was a guy i REALLY wanted to look like, great hair, great skin, everything. I still feel like that. And when i was 13, i ruined myself even more and i started doing SH. And i didnt stop, i COULDNT stop. I am now 19 and i got my first house cause i can legally move out of my parents house. I am still doing SH. Luckily i have been clean for a week, but yall, dont do what i did. It ruins you even more. If i could stop the SH addiction i would. I want yall to know you matter and you dont have to change anything about yourself. The only thing that needs to be changed is the world if its making us THAT insecure. And especially the young women. You all are said to be more into beauty and could ruin your real beauty by changing yourself for others. Love yourself, that goes to EVERYONE.

This is why I will always respect Melanie. She points out real world problems and brings attention to them in a creative way. This song and Orange Juice really stick with me

I love Melanie Martinez so much. Mrs Potato Head is my favorite song by her--everytime i listen to it i almost cry, it is such a perfect song in my opinion. It shows how much horrible lies afab people are told about our worth.
