I'm tired of hearing Bernie isn't a serious candidate. He's *NOT* extreme. He only *seems* extreme to the people in this country that don't know what *CAN* be achieved by intelligent people within a *REAL* democracy: Denmark, Germany, Finland, Sweden, etc.. I do understand that we may have a problem with *INTELLIGENCE* in this country. Does that mean the people here, no matter how ignorant, can't be shown the difference between the U.S. and those democracies that have working governments? Can someone in the media compare our middle and working classes to the middle and working classes in the above countries??? Don't just talk about Greece, to try to scare us ... show us what success looks like! Show us what it means to be *POOR* in the U.S and poor there. Show us what works, and see how we can get there. Maybe *gasp* do better?

Felix banaan All of the countries mentioned have governments working perfectly, no idea what you're on about. I'm Danish, so by osmosis I learn all this stuff. Immigration is no more a problem in Denmark than it is in USA, but sadly we have crazy hillbillies, akin to the Tea Party, sitting on 20% of the mandates in our Congress.
@TrylleBanjo9 жыл бұрын
Beorn Borg As a Dane: As to intelligence: That can be worked around easily, just find a group or an issue and villify it. Dansk Folkeparti (Danish People's Party. Doesn't that just ring wonderfully of German parties of old) sits on 20% of the mandates in our Congress, and their agenda has since day 1 been a thinly veiled racist one. They've gotten there by appealing to the inner svinehund (pigdog, as in appealing to the side of you that wants to say and talk shit, but never does). Homebrewed theory this one, but I think that as the disdain of politicians rises, people throw their hands up and go: "f*ck it!" and protestvote, and in Denmark that has always (until very recently) been the Danish People's Party.

papersplease I didn't agree with Talib at first, but I later got what he was saying. He also stated in the show, that HE didn't agree with the interruption of Bernie Sanders until after he spoke with the protesters and heard their point of view. The thing is...the racial issues in America are always JUST a conversation. Nothing ever changes. It takes civil disobedience to affect change. It took rioting and protests all over the country, to get states to begin to revising their police training, mandating body cameras for police, looking into the criminal justice system, etc. These disruptions are efficacious. More so than being RESPECTFUL. I think the BlackLivesMatters movement may be working BECAUSE it is disruptive, disrespectful, and in your face. Too often the racial issues get brushed off to the side without any systemic changes. So at the end of the day, even though I think Bernie Sanders is the man, I don't blame them for interrupting him. It served its purpose, it kept the conversation going in America, it kept the racial issue relevant. Maybe changes will come about over time so we can finally live in a post-racial America.

@chillin27779 жыл бұрын
One of the issue's regarding the war on drugs and prison is what I call the " Gladiator Effect". No one seems to realize that in many cases normally non violent criminals get sent to institutions under the pretext of " Rehabilitation". When in fact what happens is the transformation of men and women mental states to post traumatic stress syndrome. Being taken from an environment of much relatively low violence and oppression to extreme violence and oppression. One of the largest recruiting centers for violent gangs are the prisons. I have seen this among friends and family. Perpetuating the " Gladiator Effect " . Think about it

jeremyshambles Well, a start would be to stop referring to people as black and white. That just makes the grouping of people by race more real. Second, if you're a musician, wouldn't you like to discuss music? Just leave race out of it. If you're an activist on racial issues, then talk about race but I think it's sad that every black person, regardless of their expertise, is reduced to the race question.

***** oh I agree about the white/black categorizing of individuals. the problem is that because of the hundreds of years of damage caused by the abject oppression and subjugation of individuals based on skin tone (black/white) a means of recognizing that these individuals do not have the same opportunities as those who were not subjected to such indescribable inhumanity is necessary. we have a very very long way to go but it must be addressed and the more people who are educated as to why such a vast disparity exists the greater likelihood of progress is possible..

I guess they removed the comment I posted last night so I will repost. This episode was really disappointing. Both Bill and Talib went down a significant amount of notches in my book. For 1.) Bill endorsing Hilary over Bernie is highly upsetting, when Bernie has been fighting for the same issues Bill has bitched about in most of his shows (Race Inequality, Wealth Inequality, Education in America, Money in Politics, Women's Rights, Climate Change) Talk about voting against your own interests. Hilary won't do anything for those issues because she's bought by the same people who cause those problems. And 2.) Talib is just as ignorant as those women who interrupted Bernie's speech. What would lead him to believe Bernie Sanders is racist in any way? He's been fighting for racial equality his entire fucking career, and talks about it every speech he gives. Nothing those women would've said could've made any more of an impact than what Bernie would've said or has already said. In fact, it would be less of an impact, and those women only succeeded in hurting the BLM movement by showing such disrespect to someone who legitimately stands with them - most likely because they just saw a white man speaking and decided to intervene without knowing the reality of the situation. I thought Talib was a smart man, but it seems his ideology is just as tribal as the police he complains about, and refuses to call out the ones who do wrong strictly because they're his people. So fucking sad this was, and a real insight into the people I thought actually gave a shit in this country.

The fear, my take is that it is cowardice, of letting people out of prison without changing drug laws, legalization is the only answer, allows the police, courts, and the rest of the system to keep arresting without jailing merely breaking drug offenders financially still has a draconian effect of society and turns just into another shameful act of financial opportunity for continuing corruption, malfeasance, and misguided ideology...

sevven1 yeah but let's face it that's the best we can hope for from any politican, even if they don't believe it themselves or go off the poles, at least their in the right direction, rather than behind it like republicans often do. Bernie is great but one reason he has been able to stay on the same issues for his career is because they've never been a reality, he has never had to deal with the reality of trying to pass the bills, find out how t actually support theses ideas etc. as a fringe figure he has been able to raise the awareness on many important issues and has helped to foster support for them in both democrat and republican camps, however, whether or not the policies can become reality is questionable--my only criticism of the Bernie saunders campaign.

MegaMoose1989 I have a feeling that a President Sanders would be a lot more forceful than President Carter was. And I think he wouldn't hesitate to take his fights with Congress to the people. Mckenzie .Latham As chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and in the midst of the worst obstructionism we've ever seen, Sanders coauthored legislation reforming the VA health care system with John McCain and it passed in 2014. I think that that says something about whether or not he can get important legislation enacted..

From 10:00 prison talk is incredible Bill. Have to agree with you wholeheartedly. Solitary confinement is cruel and unusual and beatings, rapings, personal injustices,including torture, should be outlawed. The separation and confinement, the restriction of movement under your own free will. That is the punishment. There is no need to heap other psychological punishments on top of everything. I also think a reform of catagorization of crimes. Murder for pleasure, murder for hate, murder for financial gain. Those are all murders, but some are more heinous than others. Those in which mentally ill people have perpetrated the crime should be handled differently than cold-blooded serial killers.
