These puppets are all whooping and clapping when he talks positive about legalizing pot, or more gun control, or championing gay marriage, or religion (Christianity) is stupid but then he will say something that goes against the grain and points out a fault in the left party and it sticks in their craw and you can hear a pin drop or they start ooohing and murmuring and Maher looks at them like "Oh fuck you, it was a joke." I don't agree with a lot of Maher and the panelists but his audience is usually shit. Basically the liberal version of Faux News who just wanna hear what tows the party line.

I'm old and don't sleep as well as I used too so I'm a little late in replying. Your original statement "Eat the Rich" was a t-shirt and a slogan of the radical left music scene back in the 60s+70s the gist of which was they were only useful as food for the poor. I not arguing but mostly agreeing with you. Today a lot of people have abdicated their responsibilities as citizens to at least try to change the world for the better to become passive drones who rage online and think they are part of the process. Yet Citizens United and other bullshit legislation have severely limited their actual ability to change things. Although the new prevalence of video cameras everywhere has proven to be a positive thing in showing in full detail what is really going on. The unfortunate side effect is people will film horrible things happening but not step in to help.

Gamesman01 I remember the '60s and at least half of the '50s to boot. Here I am making a liar of myself again, as I make my 2nd reply after saying I won't be drawn in... to whatever. However, notifications are not selective, so I get alerts for activity etc; thus t saw your opening line, opened your reply and was drawn in. So, here I am replying. I also suffer chronic sleep pattern disturbances, i.e.,. I was wide awake last night and most of this AM, then fell into deep sleep, and am just now having my 1st cup of coffee so I don't fall back asleep and end up awake in the middle of the night, coz I have things which must be done Tue AM.. If you suffer sleep disturbances, then you're probably aware of the many various effects that has on the body and mind, i.e., to be awake in the morning after being awake all night is not the same as waking in the morning from a proper night's sleep. Two things, since adolescence, Ive been a "night owl" and I've mostly worked 2nd shift and primarily dinner/night shifts as an F&B professional. Add a severe illness, top that off with accident injuries, and then add in some heavy- duty meds --some of which invoked or caused chronic sleep disturbances which apparently I'm stuck with for life (all these things occurred over the course of one very bad year). So much for my quasi-insomnia--quasi-narcolepsy-sleep pattern disturbances and such, for now. I will return to this post and make further replies to you, but for now, the coffee is calling. Ciao.

i am a bit confused by this term "fake outrage" i hear used by bill maher and others (mostly who are somewhere between right wing and extremely right wing). i do agree sometimes offense is taken a little to far, such as the furor over many of the halloween costume examples, but do these folk really think people are not sincerely pissed off by racism, sexism, and other real bigotry? it seems the anti-pc police forget people have right to be offended, including a right to express offense with their own freedom of speech.

The problem is that EVERYTHING is offensive to them now, and yet their stances make zero sense. Disagree with conservative christians? No problem Disagree with conservative Muslims? Racist islamaphobe. Disagree with a white male? No problem Disagree with a black person? Racist nazi (or Uncle Tom if you're black) Disagree with a woman? Sexist, misogynist Say Caitlyn Jenner isn't a hero? Transphobic. Disagree with illegal immigration/open borders? Literally Hitler

i don't know anyone who has been called transphobic for not considering caitlyn jenner a hero. i have noticed, however people be called transphobic for continuing to call her "bruce" and insisting on referring to her as "him", and there is overlap with that group of people and a group of people who make a big deal over caitlyn jenner being considered a hero. these people are, by definition, being transphobic. all of your examples, more often than not, are not as simple as you claim them to be. there is almost always something more than just "disagreeing" with a muslim or a woman or a black person that gets a person called a bigot. the difference really is saying saying that really is bigoted.

One question I have often asked is if you cannot wear Halloween costumes that others find to be "racist," "sexist," or "appropriating a culture that isn't theirs" then what *can* you wear as a Halloween costume?

I think that next year, I'll go play dress-up again. Maybe for Halloween, or maybe for Carnival, which is a lot sooner. And I'll try my hardest to find the most offensive costume.
