I’m tired of the Trumpers referring to us as liberal elitist and insinuating that they are the true patriots and hard working Americans and the democrats are out of touch w/America’s middle class. I’m a hardworking patriotic American, that just makes the lower middle class income line with a child in the military. I am literally living in a part of my city referred to as “the hood”. I am a white female who has been to college and raised by a single mother that used food stamps to assist in feeding her family while working full time and putting her self through community college (all while making the dean’s list every semester). My husband and his brother and father are all veterans. I’m very in touch with Americans that struggle to live paycheck to paycheck. I have a serious chronic illness and still work full time in pain and for a successful business (that has been family owned and run for 100 years by original immigrants to our country) that saw a lot of growth during Obama’s administration (food processing plant). The owner’s are good to their employees and they are not elitist. They have been investing in their employees education for a long time including myself in which they paid for me to take course for a year at University of Nebraska Lincoln, courses at PennState as well as numerous courses for regulatory certifications. Company’s like this are the backbone of our communities. I am no elitist by far and I do my homework on politics, I don’t rely on MSM to feed me knowledge. I was raised to love and respect my country and to see what Trump and the spineless GOP and hypocritical evangelical Trump supporters are doing to our nation disgust me in so many ways. They go against everything the foundation of our country is built upon. Any true patriot can see this. It disgust me that they have taken our flag hostage like it is a symbol of their views. The flag is a symbol of everything they are fighting so hard to tear down. The bending of a knee at a football game as a platform against police brutality is a very respectful way to honor the meaning of our flag. I respect law enforcement but I don’t respect officers that don’t deserve to wear the badge. The Trumpers are hypocrites ...they are the very ones who insist there is a deep state in our FBI and Judicial branch and are showing no respect to life long servants that work to uphold American values! This is disrespecting our flag and country. Wake up. Stop watching propaganda Fox and friends. Go crawl back under the hate rocks you have been hiding under because America can not be broken by you no matter how hard you try to tear her down. Aaron Bower I don't see why if you play something in a movie that it is then supposed to reflect on who you're as a person. If an actor plays a rapist in a movie, can they then not be able to be supportive of the MeToo movement? The entire point of an actor is to be able to assume any role, even if it's someone that doesn't in any way reflect who you actually are as person. Let's look at Jimmy Kimmel since he became a big voice in the healthcare debate. He has a child with major health issues. But he has a lot of money so all those medical bills that are going to come are going to be easy for him to pay. But as a human being he can look at those bills and understand how fucking brutal those would be for a large percentage of people. So even though he may not have the same financial situation as those people, he can understand what hell they'd be in. You shouldn't need to be in someones exact shoes to be able to understand difficult situations. Another example is that you shouldn't need to have a gay friend or family member to understand how shitty it would be to be discriminated against simply because of who you may fall in love with. I bring that up because it's somewhat common for that to happen with Republicans. Like Dick Cheney's stance on gay rights lightened a bit when he found out his own daughter was gay. But you shouldn't need to have something like that to understand their point of view. It should be basic human decency. And that shouldn't go away simply because you suddenly have celebrity status. And since the word "elite" is being thrown around a lot here in a disparaging way, I wish Democrats would finally embrace that word. The "Hollywood elite" or "Liberal elite" is only ever used when people are trying to scare others away from ideas by making people think they're out of touch (and these are often ideas that would be helpful for those that are being scared). But elite isn't bad. In no other occupations is it viewed that way. You can sure as fuck believe that if someone is getting on a plane they don't want Jim Bob and his dumbfuck cousin who've just decided that they believe they can fly a plane in the pilot seats. No, you want elite pilots. Going in for heart surgery? I bet you want an elite doctor. Got a favorite football team? You want them to have an elite QB. So yes, we're fucking elite. And that's a good thing. You should want the best running shit.

It's not that the conservatives are black-listed or disciminated against, it's that their much less likely to pursue those professions and careers to begin with. There have been actual studies on this one. If you look up lists of professions that attract liberal-minded people and those that attract conservative-minded folks, you'll see the formers much more likely to dominate the arts, _any_ art (writing, acting, music, drawing, etc.), among other things. Hence "the liberalism" of Hollywood. Professions typically dominated by conservatives include: law enforcement, blue-collar jobs, insurance, surgery, and the military.

What Bill Maher is doing here is poking fun at the flawed logic that conservative activists often employ when they attack affirmative action. They (conservatives) -- well, racists really, always go around saying that affirmative action benefits ethnic minorities (specifically African Americans) at the expense of whites who, they argue, are inherently more qualified for whatever job or institution it is that they are applying to get into. That is demonstratively false and the data supports that claim. Affirmative action is a policy tool put in place in order to increase the representation of marginalized groups who, despite being qualified, were more often than not, excluded strictly because of race. So Bill is taking the flawed logic of their arguments and using it against them for comedic effect. Essentially, he's illustrating how absurd the premise of their argument really is by poking fun at them with it.
