Banning political advertising is one of the best ways I've heard to fix some of our political problems. I've never seen nor heard a political ad that changed who I vote for. Debates on the other hand gives a better sense of who the candidates are.
@JamesDavis-kc6kk10 жыл бұрын
I like your idea about banning political ads. What can anyone get out of a 90 second ad? Also I think if they donated the amount of money they pay for TV ads to any charity it would make more of a difference than any ad. Campaigns are a tremendous waste of money.

dannyfrog Those bastards are evil... Anyone ever notice they don't seem to come out in public? Those guys don't seem to spend time outside their mansions. Probably because they've done enough shit in their lives to know that someone on the fringes will happily take their heads off at long distance.

kananga309 Still, when you're dealing with folks with as much... "potential" as they have, It becomes very dangerous for them to live in a "black and white" world. Anyone who's opened their mind past their own selfishness for a few seconds knows damn well the world ain't like that. People who think like that are NOT rational people, consequences don't exactly exist in their thought patterns.

Like Harry Reid or not he has his own KZbin channel and you can see the entire speech on his channel. He hits a lot of nails on the head and knows how corrupt and crooked they really are. So what if he took up the floor to use it as a platform to get the word out but he's concerned and rightfully so. They were behind Karl Rove and the little Faux Noise tantrum Rove threw on election night on live television.

My question to you guys is, if a crime (robbery) causes someone to lose his family, his house, his life, pretty much destroys everything that they have built, shouldn't they be charged with like murder or in case of thousands of ppl genocide? What I'm getting at is, should the punishment fit the crime a little bit better? I mean the ppl in Wall St. destroyed ppls lives completely in some cases, its almost as bad or in some cases worst than murder and in some cases it is outright murder (example: someone dies because they lost their money and cant pay their medical bill).
@jackburton-u7f10 жыл бұрын
What I'm trying to say is robbery enough? Should they come up with a new term or type of sentence for this types of crime? Anyone knows if 1 already exists?

Why do we have to choose between sending bankers to prison and taking their money? I suggest few years I. Prison follows by a lifetime on parole/probation. Their parole/probation requirements should include living on no more money than minimum wage earner could make in a year with only one job and no overtime. They should be prohibited from receiving any kind of gifts or subsidies, including meals, housing. Everything they own, use or consume would have to be paid for with their own (minimum) wage. They should only be allowed to work in fields that normally pay wages at or close to the legal minimum. Jamie Dimon and his ilk should currently be serving up burgers, picking fruit or working as a nanny for some Indian diplomat.

I think a simpler and possible solution would be to allow corporations to absorb civil suits but a criminal offense, even within a corporation, should fall on the offender's shoulders, not the corporation. It's game theory breaking...now, if a person commits fraud within a corporation, they reap huge rewards and when it gets discovered, the corporation pays the fine...there is no reason in our current system for a financial professional not to commit fraud.

Hear, hear. The scary thing is that most of those Wall St. big whig types are legitimately amoral enough to be considered psychopaths, so that type of punishment might not actually change their views or make them feel remorse for their actions. I think a few of them should be joining Bernie Madoff in the slammer for the next thousand years or whatever his sentence is.

No need for term limits if all donations are restricted to residents within ones district. Lobbyists moneys should also be restricted to ones own district and should be 100% disclosed immediately.

While the idea of staggered elections is a good one, the fact that the ENTIRE Congress is up every two years is silly. Give em four years with half the seats up every two, and continue with the Senate rotation. Personally, I think the President should get five or six years: four years is too short a time to affect much and they need to campaign too hard too soon for the second term. I think there would be a LOT more one term PotUSs if the terms were six years. And if they got six then very strong PotUS could stay in power 12 years. Bush43 would've been a one-term guy FOR SURE; Obama might have been, Bush41 might've been a two term guy... Also, campaigning should be limited to 2 months. The whole drama of primaries and conventions and blahblahblah is so putrifying. People are in the know about who's running - they *are* generally people in the news all the time already - so a quick delegate poll should be easy to conduct in early September, then two months of debates and then a Polling Day where nobody works (or only half days).

It would be a great law to disallow representatives from becoming lobbyists, at least for four years after leaving office. Many people have to sign a "non-compete clause" in their professions for a length of time. It could make a difference in outcomes.

Ohohoh, Simon Schama is so wrong about Netanyahu it isn't even funny anymore. Damn, it's 2014, how much evidence do you still need in order to realize exactly how much he absolutely does look for "stumbling blocks" wherever he can find them? Of course, this is not to say that the Palestinians are eager for peace - because hell no they are not - but giving credit to Netanyahu's "efforts" is, at best, laughable.

Imagine what Bill Maher would have said if someone had proposed that the USA should be a Christian nation or a White nation in the way that he accepts that Israel should be a Jewish nation.
@intorpere10 жыл бұрын
Israel is surrounded by an oppressive culture that would practically wipe them out, otherwise. Israel has a population of only 8 million. Without reinforcing their Jewish independence, demographics alone would force them into becoming another Islamic state, under Sharia law.

Joshua Abell that in principle is the same argument the Afrikaners had, that they did not want to be submerged by an alien majority. And I don't think the likes of Bill Maher would have much time for it. Seems to me he has one attitude for Jews, whom he regards as his people, and one for everyone else.
@intorpere10 жыл бұрын
SuperLuckyLad Completely different situation in so many ways.. One of which being that this is the only country Jews have. They're not just fighting for yet another place to colonize, but for their cultural survival. A culture that existed in the Mid-east for thousands of years, before they were expelled, just a few hundred years ago.
@SuperLuckyLad10 жыл бұрын
Joshua Abell The Afrikaners only had one country themselves, and Israel is not about culture, its about race. If it was about culture then you would not need to be a Jew to be part of the Jewish state that Jews want to create. And should you be wondering, I am not an Afrikaner myself, I used that to demonstrate how Bill Maher has double standards.

Palestinians are genetically closer to the Jews than any other group. Palestinians are like most modern Mexicans, modern Welsh and so many other ethnic groups, native genes overridden with invaders' culture. Demographic genetic studies show that ethnic groups tend to stay in their home region even when conquered. or when culture waves spread over them. Since they are native people, with native genes, they have a right to a section of land. They should have been given a contiguous borders of the ancient state of Judah minus Jerusalem. The idiotic Partition plan was a recipe for non-stop war.

All this talk about term limits and restrictions on donations and campaigning is an attempt to deal with the symptoms of a problem and not the problem itself. The problem is, people are fucking stupid and wilfully ignorant. People get the government they deserve. How so? Well, the people so ountumber the rulers that, if the people deserved a better government, there would be nothing that the rulers could do to prevent the people from having it.

now the supreme court just ok'd unlimited donations. justice saying that money is speech and has freedom, what a disgusting joke we have become when our justices can openly say this with a straight face and on record. He will go down in history as one of the people responsible for the decline of western civilization. Makes you wonder where they want us to go. Look at the economic philosophy imposed on Chile in 73 and followed by Argentina, look who was responsible. These economic practices couldn't have been introduced without the use of force and dictatorship. 30 years ago this economic policy was unleashed on the US (and the rest). Now look where we are, on the edge of a cliff. I only hope it is not the intention but a complete collapse would reset everything and give certain people exactly what they can't do now. Chicago school of economics.
