If the cost of deforestation would've been added to the price of palm oil, processed foods wouldn't be so affordable. Also, I despise the fact that we've built a system where the only solution for well-being is a consumption driven economy and taking a sustainable approach and stifling over the top consumption leads to a recession. In conclusion we're fucked and living here in 2050 won't be that fun...

Thing is, he wants it because he won't be affected by it. He's worth millions of dollars, and he has no one to worry about if a recession hits. It's things like this that are the reason why so few people trust mainstream media or celebrities anymore. Before YOU whine about my comment, consider this. Celebrities feel safe about hurling insults towards people they dislike, because they don't live in the real world. They don't live with the consequences of the real world. They go home each night to armed security and gated complexes. This mindset that Bill Maher is exhibiting in this video is EXACTLY the reason why there was such a disconnect between Hillary Clinton, a politician that was cut from a similar cloth who is basically a corporate shill in a suit that answers to the beck and call of those who caused the subprime mortgage fiasco in the first place. They don't have to worry about going home, probably sacrificing their own wants so that their loved ones don't have to worry about food on the table, clothes on their backs, and a roof over their head. These individuals don't sleep on how their wants and desires hurt those less fortunate than they. They are content on seeing the world burn if they don't get their way, and anyone who dares speak out against them is the worst kind of person imaginable. Bill Maher is just a coward in a suit, unable to see that the rest of the nation has seen through this kind of bullshit. Live in your world of denial, you sack of shit. It's the obliviousness of the mainstream media and like-minded celebrities that fueled Trump's presidency, and they're too fucking stupid to act sane.

early on Alex Jones called that all stupid. and would not have this guest on that claimed it to be real Alex should have just stuck to Satan worshipers running it all.it's pretty easy to prove Satanic worship is pretty self-evident in the media that we watch today. The day that he started entertaining that guy. Was a sad day. Because up till that point he was really onto a lot of dirty shit the government and the financiers have been doing to us for a long time. Simply by reading declassified US government documents. And having a pretty good documented background always backing up the claims. It's almost as if he was a magnet to pull in people with truth. Then later after he gained their trust. Started taking up some pretty strange characters. Almost as if somebody put him up as a magnet. to pull in a large crowd with truth. Then later on let them all down by sprinkling a whole bunch of garbage in their. To make it easy to discredit anyone who spoke his name. So I stopped telling people to listen Alex Jones. Instead put them onto regular media which reported the truth about a lot of the things that he uncovered. They didn't go down the stupid path of entertaining people that would easily make you discredited. Like the declassified operation Northwoods. See false flags are very real. Declassified US government documents prove that people in our government do it to us all the time. And they do it to other people all the time in other countries. Very sad I could see that happening from a mile away. Also if you start reading all this declassified US government documents. Like do you understand Joseph McCarthy was correct. he was given proof by the FBI secretly. This is where he got his list of communist. But the FBI told him he could not use that to prosecute them because they were secretly still watching the spy network. And they didn't want to tip off the network to where they dismantled it and they could no longer watch it. so McCarthy gave up his credibility in life to pushes me out publicly as he could. It's strange to me that everyone he said was spies communist Russians have now been proven through declassified US documents. But nobody has ever yet in the mainstream media set the record straight. @@monkeypaw09

Tax cuts are fine if people actually spend the extra money they're given. For the middle/lower class, this is no problem, however for the wealthiest 1%, what do you think they're going to do with that cash? The answer is of course pocket it! Their spending habits aren't going to change as a result of acquiring even more money; instead many end up holding on to all that cash or sending it over to their Cayman Islands account. When that happens, the Treasury has to print more money to put into circulation, which devalues the dollar, which raises the cost of goods/manufacturing/services, which then causes lower demand for said goods, which then leads to layoffs, which then leads to recession.
@whynot-tomorrow_19456 жыл бұрын
How is it that the entire 2016 election cycle was dominated by populist resentment of political and economic elites, but now that Republicans control the Federal Government people crawl out of the woodwork to _defend_ the uber wealthy?
@joumero74936 жыл бұрын
whynot-tomorrow? Because the very wealthy are job creators, see Jeff Bezos. I feel like if the tax cuts really benefit the wealthy the most, it was done to try to give them more money to invest in their businesses and create more jobs.
@sanzuriver29596 жыл бұрын
OMG you are still believing in that fairy tale. Tax cut doesn't lead to job creation. If their business have no demand or plans for expansion (more than some tax cut can afford), then there are no new job creation. If you have a business with 700 employees and that basically takes care of all your customers with no issue, would you hire an extra person just because you got a tax cut? No sane businessman functions like that. If rapid growth is not expected, you look toward cost cutting, that is business management 101.

@johns34916 жыл бұрын
"most of the wealthy people I know" - Sounds like you're from an upscale crowd to know so many wealthy people. But in a broader scale, no, the wealthy don't reinvest all of their tax money. Some do, sure, either on a partial or complete basis, but many pocket the money because there's nothing left to buy. They already have everything they need. And when 1% of the country controls over half the wealth floating around out there, that's a huge problem. "it's their money" - No, the government prints that money; it's never "ours" to begin with. Money is like blood; it needs to be constantly circulating in order for it be effective. That's why we have taxes - it gets money flowing out from tight-fisted people so the government doesn't have to print as much cash to meet the demands of the population. Think about why money, or anything, has value: because there's a finite level of it. When there's little of something out there, it's worth more; when there's too much, it's worth less. That's why a common rock lying on the side of the road is worth nothing, and a deposit of gold is worth more. When money is trapped in another country or stuffed under a mattress, it's being taken out of circulation, and the government needs to print more of it, ultimately devaluing the dollar. Look at the facts: recessions happen as a result of long term Republican policies. Democratic solutions, while unpopular, have dug us out of these holes time and time again at the price of higher taxes and stagnant growth. You can't have it both ways, and it's just a matter of time before the next recession hits, as well as new taxes to help us dig back out of them.
@sajeanne84966 жыл бұрын
Many of the comments prove that there are some people who need to re-watch the video with subtitles; maybe? They clearly don't understand what Bill is saying. He doesn't WANT a Recession! Torkel Svenson who knows, we didn't call the one in 1929 a great recession. Besides, more than two quarters of negative growth is a depression. How bad it will be is all on Trump and how the world reacts. It's going to suck if anything.

a recession is a natural event in every economic cycle. It's going to happen eventually but how soon and more importantly how severe it'll happen depends on factors such as trump lowering taxes for the rich causing there to be less money in circulation since it has been proven that poorer and middle class citizens have more use for the additional money (and will thus spend it) than rich people for whom it would mean just having some extra while already being able to afford anything. Less money in circulation causes the overall purchasing power to decline which hurts the economy and can cause deflation and trigger a recession. So bill maher might be better off than some of the very poor but it is hardly his fault that trump is a crappy businessman.
@RingwoodLive6 жыл бұрын
Called "the velocity of money". And yes, the rich just "park it" while the average Joe returns it to the flow of goods and services. For those who need some economic enlightenment look up "evonomics" and "the rentier economy"
@joumero74936 жыл бұрын
RingwoodLive But do the rich not reinvest their money? Everyone knows that you can’t maintain wealth by simply piling it up in your house and putting that money in the bank allows the bank to invest that money for you. The only thing the rich would do that is negative is spending their money overseas. That actually removes money from circulation.
@Hihihihihihi1476 жыл бұрын
Jo Umero and that's exactly what they're doing. Of course I'm talking really rich not just upper class. A 15% tax cut means a lot for someone who can now afford better food, more expensive clothes or maybe even a move. Whereas for someone who already owns 6 cars where's the need for a seventh one? That's of course super simplified but one very good way to increase your wealth is by investing outside of the country something most normal people wouldn't do
@RingwoodLive6 жыл бұрын
Doesn't work that way except in high school text books. The rich "invest" in speculation - Buying and selling the existing stocks of companies and profiting from fluctuations in those prices. which contributes NOTHING in any tangible productive way. When Mitt Romney makes a killing trading shares on a new pharma product release NONE of that wealth goes to the company making the product. Goes to Mitt and the brokers. Look up "the rentier economy" or get a copy of "Wall st" www.amazon.com/Wall-Street-How-Works-Whom/dp/0860916707
@Hihihihihihi1476 жыл бұрын
RingwoodLive as I said very simplified. Plus I don't see where anything you said contradicts my argument about the poor putting more money back into circulation
@benw99496 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate Bill Maher's jokes about a recession, and wow, his points about Trump here are spot on. What bothers me is, I have very little savings left and I no longer own a home, thanks to the last recession and taking care of my grandmother, who's now been gone a few years. So a recession might not be so survivable for me. However, yeah, if this Trump thing continues, our country may be destroyed from within, which, ouch, is not likely too survivable. I'm hoping people in Washington will wake up before we lose our country. But I don't know if that will happen. A recession is likely to happen, thanks to Trump's ham-fisted ham-brained lunatic actions. So...aarrgh...damn it, I came here to get a laugh, not go on a rant! -- I like at least the first half of what Bill Maher says here. Now listening to the rest.

Unfortunately, with the current economic system being what it is, these kind of recessions will continue to happen. It's impossible to have infinite economic growth on a finite planet. When the government cuts taxes on the super rich & bails out the large financial institutions responsible for the recession (using taxpayer money), this is to be expected. Meanwhile the working-class & poor have their social programs defunded or cut while big businesses go on "corporate welfare". I truly hope things get better for you & everyone who is experiencing hardships as a result of this parasitic system.

Obama was hard on immigration, even under Republicans we didn't have net zero immigration. Not under W Bush, not under Papa Bush, not under Reagan, etc. As in, people get deported faster than they came in under Obama. For people who pay attention to actual policy instead of right wing news, the data doesn't lie, Obama is the Deporter in Chief. The so called "Open Borders" under Obama is a fantasy made up by the right. The truth is the Republicans have been total shit on security, economy, and infrastructure starting with Reagan. Eisenhower was the last real Republican President, but by pre-1964 Republican I meant the modern Democrats (except the modern Democrats has no balls).
@sanzuriver29596 жыл бұрын
Wait, you were talking about Obama open border and then changed to Hillary. Not to mention when Hillary talked about open border it was about trade and business opportunities, only right wing lunatics see one word and ignore the context. Just like when Obama said private business owners didn't build the infrastructure they are using, and then somehow right winger just heard "You didn't build that". Also, if you can be opposed to the Dreamers, then you are a real pathetic human being. How would you feel if you wake up one morning and you get deported because your parents didn't tell you they are illegal immigrants, and now you have to go back to let's say "Racistville" despite never even been there. You can have your picks, I don't give a shit about who wins. When Democrats win, they don't have the balls to do the right thing. When Republican wins, they do all the wrong things, or only do the right thing behind closed doors once in a blue moon. I am neither Democrat, Republican, or Independent. I just observe political history as a hobby, but if you ask who would I NOT vote for, then the modern Republican Party is the answer. If you asked that question before Reagan or before 1964, then I would NOT vote Democrat. Basically what your response tells me is that you are both ignorant about political history, and is brainwashed by right wing media. Do you have the illusion that the Republican party is still the party of Lincoln? Please learn more about the Civil Rights Movement, Goldwater, Republican Southern Strategy, and JFK. If you can learn about all those and still hold your current beliefs, then I am done talking to you. Good day.

GOP rely on Ins-hannity for "their" (in)moral compass, perhaps the center and left should just rely on you to articulate the position and agenda of the remaining sane population of this country. Keep the fight on Bill. Few people see the severity of the damage this President is causing, I watch you because you get it.
