ROOKTABULA - Yeah I don't see Trump as a legit candidate. I think he's there to push his agenda & control the narrative of the party. Which in of itself is an irony since the Citizen United decision. Parties have very little direct control over what "their" message is because of this, so that's why the GOP field looks like a clown car right now. Everyone is putting their two cents in. Trump will eventually bow out but not before he gets his point across, and it causes some people to lean towards his message and thus, towards a specific candidate he really wants to support. As for the left I really do like Sanders on a number of issues, and I think has a real shot at Hillary. I respect his approach as well, not personally attacking people and instead engaging in actual debate & discussion which is what we really need. I say all this as a moderate conservative.
@ROOKTABULA9 жыл бұрын
nicholas rodriguez Sanders will never get it, though he should, because corporate money wants an establishment talking head that owes favours and can be bent to listen. @nrodaf069 жыл бұрын
ROOKTABULA - Lol, I see your point on Sanders & the establishment (Hillary fits that description quite well). I do find some GOP candidates to be appealing, and I think some of them would find broader support if they just weren''t afraid of the right-wing fundamentalist donors who control the money purse. Case in point, people lauded Mitt Romney for criticizing the flag over Charleston. Aside from the fact that Mitt has always been consistent on how he has felt about the flag, his comment came of his own free will because he wasn't tethered to those donors. Bottom line, there are valid candidates for GOP, but sadly they're afraid of being honest and speaking out against their donors. It''s understandable because it's political, but I just wish someone would grow a pair. Rand Paul, Jeb Bush, and Marco Rubio are my top 3 at the moment in no particular order. Rubio & Bush would have broader appeal given their latino connection, and Rand Paul is of course his father's son. I would love to see a Paul Sanders debate.

I think conservative tends to be more stubborn and single-minded and tend to be only open to their point of view, which is why they tend to be more "proud" of being called a super conservatives. Liberals tend to be more open-minded so they try to see things from both sides (not all liberals of course). This means that while they have a lot of liberal ideals, they also revulse at many ideas on the left as well. Basically, there's more variations on the left and many consider themselves moderates to separate themselves from crazier left while the right tend to generally fully embrace all their craziness. This is why you have Republicans who say insane stuff while you rarely have Democrats who do the same. Then there's also the fact that the right is so far right that many "no-brainier" moderate ideas like universal healthcare is now considered far left.
@danthomas84289 жыл бұрын

Bob Jones - "conservative tends to be more stubborn and single-minded and tend to be only open to their point of view". ""Liberals tend to be more open-minded so they try to see things from both sides (not all liberals of course)" You frame this very well, considering that academia in America is overwhelmingly liberal/progressive & they are very discriminatory towards opposing viewpoints, even among st their own group. The tight control over "free speech zones" is just one example, as is the case with who they hire on to staff.

I'm against any form of solitary confinement. According to a report by the United Nation, it's equal to torture and out of all the suicides that happen in prison, 50% of them are people that were placed in solitary on a regular basis/extended periods of time. It's more humane to just give them a noose and tell them to go for it. The idea that it is also used to "protect" people from the general population is just crazy.
@AdamRainStopper9 жыл бұрын
Oh fuck, when he said the thing about the sound of "people wailing" in the segregation units of the prison, I started shaking violently. This shit never goes away. People who have known me my whole life are able to spot it when I'm "going back there," sometimes they have to jolt me out of it by screaming at me or shaking me by the shoulders. You can't do this shit to people. Especially as a punishment for starting trouble or being caught with contraband or whatever, that means you are isolating people unnecessarily. If I killed everyone who they ever tried to put in a cell with me, it would be understandable that they'd stick me in a single cell, and even then, I'd still have contact for a few hours a day outside the cell, but I didn't kill anyone, I just got in a fucking fight that someone else started, and then a CO was trying to spill my tray on me in seg so I grabbed his shirt through the slot in the door and pulled him down. Next thing I know, I'm cuffed and leg-ironed in a dark cell wiping pepper-spray out of my eyes with my jumpsuit. I was in that dark cell for months, no one even TALKED to me. I would ask what time it was, even though I had nowhere to be, just to make eye-contact and hear someone talk. They didn't say a word. Then one day I was back in the block, no ticket, and apparently no record of me being segregated for all that time. You just can't do that to people. It's worse than any crime they could have committed to be there in the first place, with the exception of kidnapping someone and doing basically the same thing. I will never fully recover from that. I jammed my bedroom door once a couple years ago, and I didn't even TRY to figure out why it wasn't opening, I just smashed it out with my computer chair. I almost did the same thing once recently when I got locked in the lobby of the bank when I was using the atm. When they say a lot of the people released from gitmo end up taking up arms against the US, I am not even a little bit surprised. This is an abhorrent practice that has no place in 21st (or 20th for that matter) century society.
