All skid steers with only one hydraulic circuit have some kind of switch to activate the electrical plug. That activates the solenoid on the attachment to go between functions. Any small wheel loader I’ve used has that same method of unlocking/locking the bucket on. They don’t have a dedicated hydraulic circuit for the pins holding the attachment on so they are also using a solenoid/diverter valve to use the third function hydraulics to do that. Similarly to the 14 pin connector. It’s meant to default closed so the operator doesn’t accidentally leave it unlocked and have the attachment fall off.

I've never bought a piece of equipment or a car without the salesman going over everything with me. Did your dealer not show you how to operate the machine when you picked it up or when they delivered it to you? because if not, I'd find a different dealer. For the record, my Case SV250 is the same way to operate my HLA Snowplow. Auxiliary hydraulic switch angles plow right or left and then you push an auxiliary electric button while using the auxiliary hydraulic switch to rotate the wing forward or back. One electric switch for the right wing and another electric switch for the left wing. Basically, it's the same hydraulic circuit for everything, the electric switch just triggers a diverter valve to send the fluid to different functions. Very simple operation.

The side door is a huge benefit for some users and the larger you are and the older you are the more it is really meaningful. They offer two sizes of your wheel loader with the single extendable boom arm and for forklift/stacking work it can do on a small scale what a telehandler does. The single boom also gives you a wonderful perspective on the bucket when you are back dragging rock or dirt. Having said all that i agree with you that the owners manuals suck. Maybe they do not have all of the attachments we have here. Also , Land rovers and Jaguars are notorious for bad electrics overall and weird ergonomics for switch locations. Keep running it, I hope it grows on you

Skidsteers are a whole new beast from tractors and was a big learning curve when we started to transition. Just like your calling your aux 1 and aux 2 a third function. FYI, all skiddies are the same just different button locations. Your aid one on left joystick is your main. Then your buttons control your 12v output to the diverted valve on the attachment. Some attachments have 1 diverter like a Harley rake, some have 2 like a Harley rake with tilt and angle, and when your getting into graders or forestry heads some have 3 and 4. They really do skip some important things on the electrical side with a lot of these manuals.

This will be off topic, but I find it hard to believe a 6 way dozer blade is a good implement for a one arm machine like that. The amount of force exerted from one side of the blade in a cut I would think would be enough to fatigue and crack that boom arm very quickly over time

They also make what I think is the finest general purpose backhoe in the world. Drive one that has all 4 tires the same size instead of little chickenshit front tires. Diverter switches should be toggles, not momentary. I think the actual issue here was not only was the sequence to operate a vital function not in the manual, you also have nobody at the company to call to figure it out. Dealers are usually the people to call to figure this out but you should still have the option to talk to the manufacturer.

it’s a diverter valve. On tractor third functions that use a diverter. You have a momentary button that you have to hold or a switch to engage the valve and then you use the normal lever to now operate the 3rd function. I think what’s going on here is you’re thinking of the Auxiliary hydraulics on a skid steer as a simple third function. Whereas they’re more like a separate power system. With its own control system and power supply. A 3rd function is simply a branch of an existing and used circuit. While auxiliary hydraulics are their own stand alone system. It’s totally stupid that they didn’t have a breakdown of electric/electronic controls in the manual. I really don’t understand why they wouldn’t have a breakdown of those controls. That’s just stupid…

Okay, so this is just a normal hydraulic circuit selector.. it's used to technically double your auxillary, or add auxillary to an existing function. it needs an activation button, for you to then use the (here, auxillary) paddle/button.. that's infact a thing with the plow/blade, not the jcb. sure, the controls could have been listed in the manual, but then again with some simple hydraulic knowledge, this gets very obvious. same goes for the bucket lock for that matter.

There are 22 factories world wide that make their products, my guess is they are engineered where they are manufactured and HQ hasn't made same function work the same mandate across all lines because it would take too much $$ to re-engineer and tool. The dealer I work at has been selling JCB for roughly the same amount of time I've been there, specially the Ag 400 wheel loaders (mainly 403 and the large frame 4x7), 500 tele handlers and TM telemast wheel loaders (why we don't sell the small/mid size 400's). We do sell the 4000 and 8000 Fasttrac's as well, but I've only heard of one 4220 being sold through us, and it was delivered via a sister location of us. The main issues we've had were: - shipping larger parts, but because of brexit - a new 542.70 where the hydrologic tank wasn't welded probably, and we needed 3 attempts to get that fixed, we actually needed to drill a hole into the frame and remove the rear axle for that. I've mainly done the monthly storage inspections on them, but also had to add a pressure less return line to a 403, which was quite the pain because of the cab being fixed, and the space where that line goes into the tank, you need to replace a 90° fitting with a T one, and get the new hose tight in a space you can barely fit your hand into

Yeah, I have two teleskids, and the JCB 14-pin is braindead. It puts out like 8 volts to see "what's out there" and only outputs 12 volts if it sees a load. No other manufacturer does this. It's literally braindead and only works for 12V on-off solenoids. Modern proportional solenoids don't work with it. You need to inline some resistors in the harness to fool it into seeing a load.

I think there are a few different things going on in the “jcb saga” here First of all, your jcb salesman did you a disservice from the beginning, especially in not explaining to you each and every function of the machine. This is the reason you buy from your local jcb dealer, for the support. Secondly, I think it’s a stretch to blame the machine for the struggles you guys were having in this video. The aux and electrical connections on this machine work the same way as any other machine that you’d put that blade on. Your friend even came so close to admitting that the Deere functioned in a similar way(at 12:41). Third, the wheel loader has the quick hitch interlock for the simple function keeping an operator from dropping the bucket off on accident. So again, a good dealer/salesman should be a phone call away to correct issues and questions such as this. But I don’t think it’s quite fair to blame the equipment for an operators lack of knowledge. construction equipment is very different from compact tractors, and every machine on the market has different ways of doing the same thing.

I’ve seen lots of problems with them in the past but that was over ten years ago. Because of my past experience I can’t, in good conscience, recommend JCB.
