Rob and Chris, I have a 33 year career in insurance and started at a Motor Underwriting syndicate. I recently obtained a Cat N 2012 Fiesta and it was the same price to insure as our previous 2010 Fiat 500c. You are correct in your video that in the event of a total loss you would paid less but then you are buying the vehicle at a lower price. This where the public are misinformed. Insurance is there to put you back where you was before your loss not to make it better or for profit.

Guys, check in the rear centre armrest for the remote for the rear media screens. There should be a little cover that you press down to expose a remote.

The Land Rover has come on leaps and bounds in a short time. There will always be a demand for vehicles regardless of brand or insurance category as long as the price reflects it. I wouldn’t hesitate to own a cat car if I knew the time and effort you guys go to in order to repair it to such a high standard. Well done both 👌👍

Check in the rear centre armrest for the remote control thats where they live - another great vid - I have just done a 2015 L405 5.0s/c Autobiography (510bhp) with 50k on the clock which was a cat N and only pay £640 fully comp - but have turned off the Keyless entry and quite a few other security options. Great cars to work on and rebuild plus it helps having the dealer diagnostic/programming kit... keep them coming boys

AT LAST a common sense approach to the JLR insurance saga all hype generated by social media, your channel is one of the best you guys never jump to conclusions, you find out the facts yourself and report them to your viewers. More fiestas alone are stolen each year than the sum total of all JLR models. I have commented elsewhere on KZbin to the negative reporting. Easiest way to prevent theft is get the dealer to turn off keyless entry. They've also stopped the ability to add keys, so if you lose the two supplied it's ££££'s

Have to agree with you about insurance, i used to own a MG TF, insurance was less than some others who owned the same type of vehicle. And mine wasn't structural, it had an engine fire, think somebody left a fuel.pipe loose, only damage was to parts in the engine bay and the engine cover, and because it was an MG, they wrote it off, had the car for 5 years, and it's still going strong

Yeah just to confirm that is correct about the cat S or N will not change any insurance quote. You normal buy a cat S or N or around 30% cheaper anyway so top man for clearing that up. Great videos keep them coming ❤❤

Lovely car, and will be well worth whatever you ask for it, id love one, but doing 25k -30k miles a year, id never be able to afford to run one, im also nervous about reliability on anything with the JLR badge after my dad had a disco 2 when they was new.......ill be forced to stick with my 170k mile 2016 2.0 diesel mondeo for a few years. Reliable and does the job i need to well.

I paid last yr 312 fully comp with ncb protection for Lexus is250 2009 ,this yr sent 500 so phone got down to 337 . So it's always good idea to call them

Not sure what I was expecting, but that looks like a totally reasonable price to insure a Land Rover. Anyone that can afford to run a Range Rover properly will be of an age to have built up enough no claims etc to insure that for significantly less than what a young person would have to pay on a corsa, fiesta etc.

I have 4 years no claims and my Focus costs about £50 more to insure fully comprehensive, than what Chris would have to pay for the Land Rover to insure, so you are right because there's no way I would even think about buying something like a Land Rover right now. It is getting ridiculous how high it is getting for young people to insure their first car now with 18 year olds having to pay well into the £2000+ range to insure their first car now. Even when I got my first car I had to pay about £1000 to insure an old 52 plate Yaris that cost me £550 to buy, and that was even with me waiting until I was 26 to actually get my first car after passing at 25 years old.

Generally insurance companies are insuring LR products at around 10-15% of their value regardless of driver history. There so easily stolen currently insurers don’t wanna touch them. Espcially not around the London area

You've probably not read the motoring press articles that at the end of 2023 there were apparently 10,000 new'ish Jaguar / Land Rover vehicles stuck waiting for parts. They are prioritising parts supply to build new ones and attempting to supply their own dealers with warranty work parks.

The part that you showed with HY32-8A095-AD is the engineering part no. as Chris said and is the 4th level. It would have started life as 'AA' and has been updated to 'AD' Service part numbers are added when the parts are put into the parts system. The Engineering part No. tells me that it is part of the cooling system in a sequence used by Ford. Anything in the 8000 range is Cooling, 7000 would be Transmission and 6000 is engine.When I worked for Ford (32yrs) in Parts Daventry I used these numbers all of the time,

The way you have put the Disco back togther is amazing - piecing all those plastic parts togther must have been like doing a complicated jigsaw puzzle but as usual you got it sorted👍. Interesting comments on Insurance - think the problem is probably with RR's which might be tricky if you live in central London. Hope your comments on cat cars offers some clarity to the situation.

Rob, my dads Range Rover was stolen but 23hrs later I found it parked up no mote park & quickly got my dads key and drove it back to his house. Long story but after Range Rover had it for over 3 months to replace alcantar ceiling which was on back order he got it back lucky I know but def a lot of em getting stolen mate

I went and got a quote on it, I'm same age as Chris, been off the road a bit so only have 4 years no claims but I still added business insurance as I need it, bells and whistles and it was about £400 more than Chris but only 3 times the amount I pay on a 2011 Panda and it's way more than 3 times the car!! Lol

Hi Chris Rob the main reason people are saying land rovers are uninsurable in my opinion is they are trying to put people off buying them because they want everyone to buy electric cars which in my opinion will be a good idea in about 100 years when the national grid and power stations have the capacity until then I will just stick to my internal combustion engine car thanks ps I am a time served electrical engineer / petrolhead love the vids keep up the great work.

They cleared nothing up, that’s not factual in any way, a new policy is a different kettle of fish, it’s certain parts of the uk that can not even get a new policy for less than the vehicle value . My wife’s Range Rover Evoque Policy has tripled with current insure from £359 to £900 odds and upon getting quotes elsewhere, cheapest was £2400 up to £17000. They are trying to sell the car on misinformation, and then saying they don’t know anyone that’s had a JLR car stolen, they had one them selves only recently they had bought as a stolen recovered car.

@@yommonaghan785 all insurance premiums have risen this year. I would say that at £359 your wife’s policy was cheap last year - and by the way it’s closer to doubling in price than tripling. You are of course correct when you say they bought a stolen recovered RR recently- but that’s not what they said, they said they didn’t know anyone personally who had one stolen. Chris & Rob both live not far from London so I think their insurance policies would be more expensive than most especially when including business use and Chris had a quote for less than £900 - although they did say that Evoques are more likely to be stolen, so maybe that’s what the policy is higher ?

@@chrisdavidson9431 and it was triple with the windscreen and key cover etc, I ran the quote with out the tracker declared and that took it up another £280. £950 was what they quoted as basic policy with no legal cover or keys, screen etc and I also have the panoramic covered , final amount was £1190 . I paid that when I was 18 on a focus st170 back in 2003 so to see a quote like that age. 40, I nearly choked lol . If I paid monthly, that would have gone up even more .

Thanks for the opinion on insuring cat cars. I've just started a policy today on my first salvage car (inspired by you guys over the last three years I've been watching). It was more than I had expected but then it's an EV and all expenses have gone up. Only thing insurer wanted to know was cat a and b, neither of which apply. Wish I could whip round to JB Smarts as easily as you guys can for tracking 🤣
