Our local charity shops never have such stuff in them - just John Grisham, James Patterson, Kathey Reichs and their ilk. I have to admit I used to be a bit sniffy about Shaun Hutson back in the day (along with others like Guy N Smith - the snobbishness and folly of youth?). I did however visit my local bookshop yesterday, which is one of those old fashioned ones with 13 rooms all piled high with books, and managed to pick up an omnibus by him - 2 novels, Death Day and Renegades. Also managed to get a couple of Robert Mccammon books - Baal and Night Boat - I think Baal was one I read many years ago. Also 4 others that I don't know anything about but hopefully will be good - Les Daniel's The Black Castle (described by The Yorkshire Post as a masterpiece of terror), Al Sarrantonio's The Worms, Richard Lewis's Devil's Coach-horse, and The Funhouse by Owen West (from the Larry Block screenplay). I haven't had a good mooch around the charity shops since the pre-Covid age, so I think it's high time I did. Hopefully I can find something heinous. A bit of Hutson or such like would be just the ticket.

2003's sort-of modern, I think! Found a Hutson on the free shelf outside the tube station not so long ago... this kind of stuff has vanished from the charity shop shelves round here

Erebus is pretty good, and the "slugs" books deliver loads of OTT shocks, while Captives and Victims are both murderous exercises in dark crime. Strangely, even the part of the world where i live, it's not unusual to come across second hand copies of Shaun Hutson.

Can't say I've ever heard of Cliff McNish, but 'Breathe' does sound interesting. There are two sorts of people who read Glen Duncan's 'The Last Werewolf'. Those who loved it, and those who are wrong! I reviewed it back in 2015 for the British Fantasy Society website. Rereading my review just now, I note that I mentioned that there were 2 sequels out that I planned to get. Then I forgot. I must rectify that, and check if the series went beyond book 3.
