I just finished three acclaimed modern horror novels. Two total scares in the whole lot. The writing was mediocre...at best. I need to circle back around to the '70s and '80s horror novels.

Just discovered your channel, hope you return soon as devouring your content. I believe you are correct about the Jack Palance Dracula picture from the 1974 version, the picture following that triggered memories as it was the box art from the 1st edition of The Fury of Dracula board game from the 80's. Showing my age there!

93. I never knew Pennington illustrated the cover of C.R. Cammells A.C. Black Magician. Which is without doubt the first NEL title I acquired, it belonged to my Mum (she was into Dennis Wheatley, Agatha Christie and Catherine Cookson) as well as a rather interesting (to me at a very young age) the occult. The Crowley book was always knocking about the house and seemed to have a life of its own. I used to pick it up as a kid and stare at it for ages wondering who he was until I finally read it aged ten or so. The copy I still own to this day was my Mum's and I would never part with it for all the curry in Longsight 😊. P.S. miss your vids, insights & humour so get your arse in gear and get back to doing some more. Hope everything is OK with you and your, take care. 93.

Five months is a long time to wait for a new vid, but I understand, life happens, health, family, job or jobs, it all gets in the way of creating, so until then I've decided to start watching from the very beginning! Love your channel and hope to see you back soon, you are a total original.

Let’s be honest Wheatley was not a good writer, reading Toby Jugg he goes completely off character and you start reading some portions of his letters to posterity, his most famous book was the devil rides out was lifted from Crowley’s Moonchild, he even said himself he was not a great writer but he could tell a good story.

Looking at this video , I was thinking the same . I've read a lot of his novels and , to be honest , find them all to be formulaic and predictable . He also was not knowledgeable about the occult , as some like to claim .

Just found you after putting WHH on search. What a brilliant insight into this truly amazing man. I read a lot of similar stuff such as Algernon Blackwood and others Last week I bought The Weird Tales of WHH but in research have found that it is very hard to find any of his work and what you can get is very expensive, works volume 1 - 5 for instance. I downloaded an e book with many tales of his but I’m all for hard copies. A final word, The Boats of Glen Carrig has one of the most dark and haunted beginnings that I have yet to read. Brilliant Vidio, glad I found you

Hey Mister Redbeard. Well, it's two years later and they're still doing it (hooray). Even after this passage of time I had to have a little sniffle listening to you describe the band that has left its indelible mark on my life. Nice to see the 'Familyinblack' still has something to say. Btw I'm going to see them in July in Carcassonne. Maybe this time I'll get JJ's pick! Fly straight mate!

I live in the Merseyside region where Ramsey Campbell was born, and still lives to this day. I've known him personally since 2013, and have met him several times in person at various local events and signings. Just last Sunday I saw him again at a convention, held at the Floral Pavilion in New Brighton, which is only a 5 minute drive from his house. Up until then I hadn't seen him for years, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I have kept in touch with him on Twitter every now and again. I'll probably never get the chance to meet Stephen King or Clive Barker in person, but I'm happy to have known Ramsey as a friend and mentor. There are so many novels and short stories I love from Ramsey's back catalogue, the ones he did based around Lovecraft and the Cthulhu Mythos are among my favourites. If I had to pick my all time favourite novel of his, it has to be Midnight Sun from 1990.

The "Devils of D-Day" one was also used for an early Metallica LP-sized single... "Jump In the Fire," I think. A really good color photocopy, framed, would probably work pretty well for a lot of those. If you took it to a professional place they could probably do them on better paper. There are ways around slicing up your book, but, yeah, definitely some very nice art. Might cost a few bucks to go the copy route, but it'd be worth it since you wouldn't be burdened with the guilt of wrecking a book... :)

Great to see you back sir - we've missed you. I feel you angst on this, and would be very tempted to take a scalpel to the book myself, but ultimately I'm with Mark on this - don't do it! What would you say to the great librarian in the sky when your time comes? You'd get your library ticket revoked and be sent to book hell where you'd have to read Jeffrey Archer and Nadine Dorries novels for eternity 😱

Have to say the instant gratification of getting some lovely prints on the wall has often been tempered by the aftermath of nagging guilt upon seeing the destroyed book so I don't do it much any more, great to see you back mate your vids always put me back in the mood to start reading all this stuff again
