“A guy who breaks boundaries can do so in some nice and subtle ways.” This is the thing that has happened to me, but I feel like I’ve done this too. Trying to help people even when they want space, and not understanding (I was so young and inexperienced then) that they set a boundary and I ignored it. I needed to hear some of these things for myself too.

Too many people make excuses for men who act like that as you described in the #1 red flag. People think you should just understand that men aren’t emotional, blah, blah. Well, that experience deeply hurt me. I was with that boyfriend (who did just that) for 5 years. I felt so alone and emotionally starved. I finally couldn’t take it anymore. Also, the 3rd red flag you mentioned often coincides with the first red flag.

@@AdrienneEverheart Well, I didn’t know I was being mistreated first of all. And it certainly didn’t start off that way. We met via long distance (that went on for 9 months). Then came the real getting to know the person when we finally met in-person. I always gave the benefit of the doubt. I didn’t see these as red flags at that time. Again, it’s socially accepted and pushed as a disclaimer that women shouldn’t expect a man to be emotionally open, expressing feelings, etc. so I just tried to adapt. As in any trial and error, over time I realized I needed to stop trying and accept that I have needs that weren’t being fulfilled, even when I spoke up many times about it. I have always had a tendency to be very patient and often, too patient. Some women can adapt to a more emotionally closed off man and others cannot. I found out through that relationship that I am the latter type. So it wasn’t like I was not trying and just allowing myself to be hurt. Not at all. I just grew more and more frustrated. So I wasn’t compatible with him. Relationship development and really knowing someone also takes time. You can’t always see every single red flag, especially if it’s a narcissist you’re dealing with who can be very clever in their behavior. That is yet another lie people love to say to someone who was unknowingly being mistreated.
@amberstephens12872 жыл бұрын
@@laundrybasket2689 I read what you stated and I can agree there’s hurt all over this. At one point I was in the same situation but it wasn’t until I identified what I needed to do, when I was in faced with situations like this. it takes a lot of looking in the mirror because yes he did , what he did… but also just make sure that you equip yourself, restore yourself and heal, so that way things like this won’t happen or you can nip it and remove yourself . I learned life is such a teacher, and it’s not until after the assignment things click. This took me 3 years after to the fact to grasp. 😮💨

THANK YOU for bringing up playful banter. I just spent 6 months dating a guy who thought it was ok to call me names I didn't like and "take me down a notch" especially in front of his friends, and even during intimacy. When I said I didn't like it or asked him to stop he would call me too sensitive, and I always felt like I was the crazy one! I finally ended it after a day where things went too far and I felt humiliated and insulted beyond repair. I want to be with a man who builds me up and makes me feel like a million bucks, not someone who makes me feel small and stupid! Thanks for the reassurance Adrienne, I love your videos.

Those soft spoken subtle boundary breakers are insidious ....people can break your boundaries nicely if you let them, its how to nicely enforce your boundaries back, like tennis. Stand your ground firmly but nicely, I'm sorry you're feeling this way, I'm not feeling it, shut it down, pull away. Don't let them suck you in or pull you in, pull you down.... Happy 2022, Adrienne! Looking forward to focusing on living more in my feminine energy for the 6th year in a row! It’s been an illuminating journey. Addictions are a huge, big red flag for me. Doesn’t have to be drugs and alcohol. It can be too much TV or internet or food addiction. Could tolerate a partner being a bit overweight, but not morbidly obese. All of these would feel like living with someone with a disability.

Mara, there are a lot of men out there who are hungry for a balanced woman. One of my feminine energy goals for this year is to not squeeze too much out of every day - some things can wait until tomorrow. Overloading a day with activities and things to do can masculinize my energy and there’s no room for magic to happen in between the gaps.

Hey Adrienne! Loving your videos. My person and I have had an on and off relationship.. he’s made such a huge deal with social meadia in our relationship. He was always sketching on who I followed and followed me. At the time, I never even thought about that or experienced that kind of jealousy. He always wanted me to dress and represent myself in a respectful and more conservative fashion. He didn’t want me posting things too “sexy” even though I didn’t really post anything like that. Even though he’s so conservative about things like that, when we get into fights and break up, he goes and follows all these accounts of girls posting sexy photos and likes photos. When we start communicating again, we talk about that and he goes and unfollows and unlikes. A specific girls account that has been an issue, he just went and re followed her again. This relationship has been sabotaged because of his insecurities and most has stemmed from social media. I have never gone out of my way to do the same even though I’ve been really triggered and upset that he could ruin a relationship and instead of trying to fix and understand and do right, he does the opposite and does the exact thing he was always sketching about me doing and doing so much worse. Please help! I’ve been doing no contact and am starting to feel his energy pretty intense like the shift is starting to happen. I feel like this is an act to make me jealous bc he knows I’ll see that stuff. He knows exactly that I’d be aware of this specific account that he refollowed after it’s been a huge issue. I want for us to be able to heal and to be able to build a new and improved romantic union with each other but it’s so hard for me to feel good when i feel like he’s playing these mind games.

What about dating separated or recently divorced man? Here is my story. Sorry, it is a bit long, but someone might help me to find the answers. I do not have much success in finding a man who respects my boundaries. I believe in friendships before any physical contact. The problem is that men that I’ve met do not want to be friends first and try to kiss me pretty soon (1 or 2 date even). I always refuse the kiss, and it always ends there. Recently, I’ve met a new man and he invited me for a coffee. He is a cop and has a 14 year old son. He picked me up from my place and I asked where exactly I would like to go out. I said I prefer if he chooses a place. At that moment, he proposed his apartment. I refused and proposed a coffee place on town. Then he said that he can’t show me in public as he is not yet divorced. My heart sunk. He can only invite me to his place for coffee as his reputation is important for him and people might see us in public. Apparently, there is only 1 week left till divorce. I did not know how to react. I was really disappointed. I proposed a short walk outside of his building, but he insisted to visiting him. After a long convincing and promise that he won’t be forcing me to sleep with him, I went to his place. He seemed nervous and smoked a lot of cigarettes. Did not want to talk too much about his divorce, although I asked a few questions. Anyways, he tried to touch and kiss me but I told him that it should have a meaning for me and for now it is too fast. I also added that we can stay friends for now and get to know each other, but he replied that he wants cuddles and fun and that he is afraid of women. We ended our meeting on a friendly note with a big hug. Then he brought me back home and we parted. It’s been more than 2 weeks and I haven’t heard from him. I texted him yesterday, he red it and did not reply. I would really appreciate your advice. What would you do in my situation? Would you react differently? What should I do next? Is it ok to call him now to find out if he got divorced? Also, I know that when dating, we should wait with sex but what about a kiss? Sometimes, I feel that I am too strict and overthinking. Please help me to figure this out 🙏

Hi Adrienne, I wasn't sure how to reach out to you so I'll try here: My long time boyfriend and I broke up recently, we no longer live together, and I have followed all your guidelines and he wants to get back together. He keeps asking me questions like "what do you think about such and such place?" And "I've been thinking of selling the place [where we used to live together] - so what do you think?" He hasn't asked me to move back in with him, and he hasn't made plans to do so... but it's obvious where he's getting at with the questions. I've told him that I want to be in a relationship with someone who really wants to be with me and that means planning on living together (at least in the context of our relationship). After living together for 4 years, I don't see why I should allow us to live apart for very long, since we've revived our relationship. So my question is: how do I continue to follow your guidelines after separating, moving out, living separately but getting back together? How do I keep my feminine energy open and get him back on the same page as me?

On the other side (the one being eye-rolled) after explaining yourself, if it happens again I would stop speaking and leave the room at the first eye rolling -that´s an action boundary. Some people have a very hard time being vulnerable, especially when they see it is not reciprocated. I say having an open discussion about the situation, where you assure him that whatever he is feeling is valid for him, even if you're not interested in him but in a friendly way, may help your friendship. I noticed men have a hard time appologizing(yes I am generalizing, but that's my experience), especially when it comes to hurting their ego.

You probably shouldn't call it making love to you when he was avoiding intimacy what he was having was sex. I think when men love someone and they're literally making love to them oh, they do want to stay a few more minutes they need it they want that deep connection also. Now granted they won't do it each and every time but yes in love and time with the woman they love.

Mine had all but the crazy ex since I was his first relationship/marriage. I'm sure if he ever dates again that I will be the "crazy ex" and then he'll be all 10 lol
