This is my problem with red one. Christmas movies (elf and a few other exceptions) are just better animated. Like nightmare before Christmas, animated movies are able to get those Christmas movie vibes across because they can do whatever they want. Elf, home alone, and some others are really good and are humorous and home alone is a classic Christmas movie. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT RED ONE IS CHRISTMAS! You can’t just throw in some polar bears and a Santa Claus and call it a Christmas movie. The entire movie is the just the rock fighting and being portrayed as this super amazing and wild card of a person in all his movies. The moment I saw his face in the trailer, I knew it’d be like all his movies. It just isn’t the theme that a Christmas movie should be. Again in home alone, a kid is left at home and his mom is spending the movie trying to get back home to him while the kid defends the house from robbers and the movie finishes with the family spending Christmas together. Nothing in this movie is the Christmas vibe, it’s literally just the rock fighting against Christmas stuff

I have to agree with you apart from the set designs where they themselves feel like Christmas that isn’t really much here that does scream a Christmas movie. You are correct also it is just the rock beaten people up as always, the same thing he does in every single movie.

We went to see Heretic yesterday and LOVED it!!!! Sooo full of metaphors & symbolism, one of those movies we think we'd definitely watch again just to see what we might have missed the first go round. But there were so many commercials and product placement pumping up Red One all over the movie theater. Good to know this one is a miss, we won't waste our time! :D

Yeah bro, for whatever reason a plot about kidnapping Santa Claus they try to make convoluted which makes absolutely no sense as it’s supposed to be a family friendly Christmas movie but the movie also feels like they don’t know who to market this for

I wasn’t expecting A24 out of a Dwayne Johnson Christmas movie.. bro you gotta take your drug of choice, chill out and enjoy the ride. not every movie needs to be a deep philosophical, thought-provoking, Scorsese, Citizen Kane etc These are the type of movies that you can’t be too logical with. you gotta watch it from a child’s perspective

@ I know that 😂😂 However if you like dumb fun Christmas movies like Jingle all the Way or the more ground breaking ones like Home Alone this one comes nowhere near those and this was just instantly forgettable. However if you like this one that’s great, however you saw the title of my video, your own choice to click it when you already know my thoughts 😂

Hello Mike how is it going? Ever since the trailer, this looked SOOOOOO generic and had no reason to be at the movie theater. The only reason to see this movie is for the actors that we like and know and that's about it. I will wait for it on streaming if there is nothing interesting to watch. Great review Mike and love the sweater :D

I like all that cast, but I'm just not keen on the look of this movie. I'm a big fan of The Rock the wrestler but I do agree his roles do all feel like the same character in most movies nowadays, Luke Hobbs in Red One haha. Likewise I want to see him do something different, I'd like him to do some villain roles for a change, I wish they did Black Adam as a villain instead of an Anti-Hero, basically give us the Final Boss in movie form. This will be one I probably watch on home release eventually. Top video Mike 👍👍

There should be a law that says you cant' have an actor that is less than 1/3 of the movie, front and center of the poster... :( Plus, The Rock needs to deflate his ego because it's ruining his reputation.

The Movie Menace returns! I had an opportunity to see this one early, but I just wasn't interested in wasting my time or energy. I'm honestly tapped out on the Dwayne Johnson vehicles at the moment, and it looked a little too goofy for me, although I'm sure other people might enjoy it more.

Great review brother! When I first saw the trailer I immediately thought of Jungle Cruise, which I hated. I think Red one will be the cgi green screen thing when. I’ll see it eventually, I like The Rock in his earlier stuff, the rundown, walking tall, tooth fairy, and the scorpion king. And I even enjoyed San Andreas.

So I do agree with you in that fact that The Rock’s earlier work was more tolerable and at least he tried to showcase some range but nowadays, it’s like he refuses to do anything else outside of big, dumb, muscly action takedown guy 😂

Maybe when you get a chance to watch the movie, you might enjoy it more than me :-) however if you think it looks terrible, I would maybe recommend watching this one if you get to it on streaming

Great review man saw the trailer for this one and not only does the plot and CGI look bad it just seems like such a unnecessary movie, surprised to hear that JK Simmons was not in the movie that much, may put it on when it comes to streaming to punish my son during the xmas period lol

I went with a 15 year old, and he really enjoyed it: The L4 naughty lister, Wonder Woman gag, he liked the Snowman / carrots schlock, the Red has left the building security detail-style, the end scene of how Santa delivers gifts, so a lot of positives for a teenage boy. His weakness was in the mythology elements, mostly in that we didn't recognise them. Isn't something I'd revisit, but nephew would have gone 3.5 minimum here. I've told him to watch Die Hard and Violent Night next, to try and find a Xmas classic

I remember you saying Nick that you check this out with your nephew and they had a great time with the movie! I think for that demographic this movie will work really well and I think it will find its audience. However, the suggestions that you gave him instead are far better movies.

The world they have created was really fresh, however the story was really meh. And kinda pointless. I thought at first that this movie was going to be an Avenger theme movie but with a Christmas theme, given the poster design it made it appear that a team of elite Christmas agents were going to search for the Red one, which made sense, get to send out their best agents for to search for Santa in front of just 1.

I think there are certain aspects of this that are fresh however there is a lot of it based on Santa, Krampus and other existing ideas. However, the story was absolutely terrible.

Yeah the whole background story why the Rock character wanted to stop ( cant even remember his name. ) and the godawful conversation he has with Santa about it made the movie seem so much more childish than it needed to be. I wasn't sure what the target audience was supposed to be but when I see the comments it makes sense that parents with young children might enjoy it. Also the fact that the Rock is horrible in this and plays the SAME character again that he ALWAYS plays is SO MUCH more amplified by the fact that pretty much EVERY actor in this is so much better than him. Chris Evans ( who I feel like played a mild version of his Knives Out character, not really Cap ), Krampus, the witch and even Santa ( with the limited time he shows up. ) all over shadow him. This movie should have been advertised more as a CHILDRENS movie, most of audience were adults and it was pretty obvious people expected more of an action/comedy, maybe even some adult jokes. but this was clearly a family movie.

Yeah I agree with your thoughts and I too think if they marketed it more for kids and a goofy movie, they could nail the box office market. But in a way as you say and not to sound like a parrot, it’s like they want to be goofy, but then serious, a lot of action but then drama and then throw in a message about parenthood and being a kid at heart. It’s like, make up your mind 😂

Painfully LONG, boring and unfunny and don’t get me started with the horrible CGI. Like I was confused to why the VFX was that bad but then i remember the budget went to paying Chris Evans , Dwayne Johnson, Lucy Liu and JK Simmons 😂

Funnily enough I did some more research on this last night and I found that the budget of the movie went up by $50 million because the rock would show up 7 to 8 hours late on shoots most days so they had to do extra filming all because of his big ego. I think that says enough about the VFX not looking great because that money was spent on paying that idiot.

Just got back home from watchimg this movie left my family and walkout mid way through the movie it is so bad one of the worst movies ive seen this year The dialogue was so long and drawn out they could of put the first hour into the first 10 mins i wouldnt even watch this on Netflix
