Red One was FUN. It took the good parts of Marvel, DC (well....the Kroll character was DC), and Fast & Furious and spun them into a holiday action movie for big kids. It had a built in franchise/universe opportunity, because not every movies purpose is to be German Expressionism arrrrrrrt. If you didn't have fun at Red One, maybe your chair was uncomfortable or something.
