Alan Blair and Oli Davies visit the most famous carp lake on planet earth, Redmire Pool. Etched into the history books for the length of time, this awe-inspiring, record-breaking and truly remarkable pond has been making anglers dreams come true since the dawn of carp fishing. In this film you’ll see the Nash duo tackle the notoriously difficult pond with 48 hours to catch a carp. The venue has undergone a huge amount of work in order to return it to its former glory and one man that has seen and orchestrated almost every stage of Redmire’s progression, is Les Bamford. We felt it was only right that he joins in on the fun, detailing some interesting facts about the estate. Filming at the pool has always been a rarity and we’re delighted to have had the chance to do so, and it’s a film we know you’re going to enjoy. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of nostalgia?

Grate to see les what a legend. Hope you're doing well my friend. I love the way you can still see the love and passion les still holds for such a iconic place . I have to say some people will be a tad horrible due to the length and because they have to pay . I was one of those until I spoke with Elliott filming costs money and to do it for free don't make sense so a small charge is OK as it helps make epic content like this .

I have really enjoyed reading about the exploits of anglers there in the early days of carp fishing (up until the early 1990s), but I have no desire to ever fish there. Redmire still looks beautiful, but it has been almost completely demystified in recent decades, as happens with all small waters when subjected to intense fishing pressure with modern methods. If I was the owner (and didn't need the money), I would be tempted to rest the place from all angling for at least a decade, while keeping a close eye on water quality and looking after the place. With a reduced head of fish, the remaining carp could be left in peace to grow on and the place would have a bit of mystery and wildness again. Then I would allow limited fishing with a restriction on times, more traditional methods and baits, to make it more of a challenge. Of course, we don't live in an ideal world and money dictates things.

It was until it became ... A ever decreasing in dimensions ( in ever way ) septic hole in the ground full of traditional angler bollies 6 feet thick at the bottom & carp begging to be allowed to commit suicide due to the endless traditional angler angling pressure. You'd feel more secure in 1940's Munich than @ redmire during the onslaught by trad angler persons.

They say you should never meet your heros. I grew up reading about redmire and watching a passion for angling etc and was lucky enough to fish redmire about 15 years or so ago. I have to say I left a little disappointed by the place, tiny little pond and at the time there were a lot of little baby carp. There was also something a little bit suspect about the booking system back then in my opinion and I have no desire at all to go back.

And lot more can be said about those who took the place over & turned it into a nuthouse. Redmire was something special a very long time ago before the trad anglers came along thats certain. But its story was always 'shaky' with respect to wherever the 3 big fish came from // and it IS all down to a slim tenure of so few carp powering the entire legend. Fragile story already - all it needed to tear it apart was a bunch of fools with a shark like appetite for classic angling footage and the Myth ? Well they've all F 'd off to another water and they don't even talk about redmire anymore. Whats comparable to this trad angler catastrophe, with they ruining THE magical lake of all lakes in british angling folklore ? Can you think of anything ? Because i cannot other than the water companies filing the rivers full of sewage. The new owners somewhat aware that the was a very heavily monetised asset going on in that hole might well be perplexed, particularly if they've zero idea of the deep idiosyncratic nature thats embedded in british specimen fish angling. Ofc WE don''t think of it as eccentric, but people not familiar with serious angling do. A lot of wonderment // but also a lot of LIES // deceit // manipulation surrounded Redmire. And a lot of twerps with tweed cane and tea ruined the place.

Actually, nobody. Redmire has been (almost) completely demystified by years of heavy fishing pressure with ruthlessly efficient modern methods. Other (far less attractive) waters have been stocked with large, fast growing carp and having gorged on high protein baits, they have piled on the pounds to become rather grotesque monsters. A far cry from those beautiful Redmire fish of the past. All rather pathetic and sad really, but then modern carp fishing is merely a reflection of the twenty first century society. A society where avarice, money and instant gratification are the new Gods.

It wa svery interesting what Les had to say & as always what Alan & Oli were up to but not having them both together, two seperate video's would have been much better. Is there a part two? because Les Had only told half a story & Oli hadn't even wet a line !

Good film but there are way more than 46 Carp in there as they have already bred. Either way the fish have done really well since the work was done with at least 2 already going over 30, the future looks bright.

Redmire will never produce record fish again. The millions of daphnia that used to be there are gone. (The reddish color of the water, because of the daphnia, is what gave it its name, REDmire Pool). Fish like we know now, 60, 70, 80-pounders, will never be in Redmire, for that it's just to small.

Old John wilson was bang on when he was freaking out about every fishery in the uk being fenced in... ruins it for me We should just be allowed to work with nature and control predators appropriately for the location.
@steveneveritt4871
@steveneveritt4871 2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately otters are protected by law in the UK, so when a lake is NOT fenced in, all you can do is stand there and watch them kill every single carp in the lake! You are not even allowed to disturb them! That's why fencing is the only viable option for protecting fish stocks. A BIG THANK YOU TO THE TWATS WHO THOUGHT IT A GOOD IDEA TO REINTRODUCE THEM TO BRITISH WATERWAYS!

Yes Redmire is a legend that I only read and dreamed about then saw on tV with the fantastic PASSION FOR ANGLING SERIES but Clarrisa was a one off at 44 pounds in that era. It changes with years and obviously the heaviest carp has eclipsed Clarissa by more than a few pounds and is a massive 60 / 70 pounds now. GREEDY SODS ARNT THEY? Anyway shame on you Richard Walker for putting Clarissa in a tank for the last years of her life
