Reef Monsters Getting Taxed | Treasure Coast Reef Fishing Shark Week

We headed out of St Lucie inlet with a live well full of perfect size Pilchards for bait. Excited for a day of Reef fishing Florida's Treasure Coast . After getting some Kingfish and Bonito action, we started fishing depths of 150 to 200 feet on various reef ledges and wrecks. The Amberjack were on the bite and we wore ourselves out on them. Several were taxed by big Sharks including a monster Amberjack. Shark week came early. We were fishing our baits near bottom with large bank sinkers on FisherKing clips, long 40 pound Flourocarbon leader and 4/0 Gamakatsu circle hooks. We also were flatlining Pilchards on the surface which produced later in the day as the wind picked up. In shallower we caught several Mutton Snapper with only one barely keeper size. We ended the day with two Sailfish bites and hooking up and landing a really nice Sail for a great show.

3:58 thats really cool how the guides on that rod transition from one side to the other. Never seen that before

Special rod for slow pitch jigging. It prevents line wraps around the tip when loading the jig. It also distributes the pressure of the fish weight to the first few guides and backbone of the rod. The rest of the rod is flimsy to work the jig properly. There’s a whole science to it. I haven’t done a video because I want to get good at it first.

Another exciting trip out on the water. Started off a little hairy with rods bending everywhere. The sharks were hungry today going after some free meals. Loved the underwater footage of the shark chasing your catch. Ended the day with a nice sailfish giving you guys an air show. Well done guys.

What kind of jig reel do you like ?

I haven’t done much jigging yet. I bought a Goofish rod and a Gomexus jigging reel. Was about a $350 combo. I didn’t want to spend $1500 on a slow pitch set up until I figured out if I liked doing it. So far I’m not a huge fan of slow pitch. Not saying it won’t catch fish but I just love live baiting.

Ideal would be 5-10 mph or less. Tide doesn’t matter. Wave intervals plays a big part with wave height. Intervals need to be double or more of max wave height.
