It was by complete accident that I finished draft 6 of my novel while on holiday in Japan (I had meant to finish it in March originally well before this trip 😅), so it is also a happy accidence that, this time, 'refilling the creative well' and getting over burn out came in the form of taking it easy while on holiday, not shoving as many things as possible into our itinerary, not filming every little snippet for content, etc. I hope you enjoy this haphazard week in Tokyo vlog. It was a joy to gently make xx

Never feel guilty for resting. You need it, you do not have to earn it. An unproductive day is not a wasted day.

Rest breaks are essential. I just gave myself my first 3 week enforced break in 9.5 years. I did another bookbinding class today which I'm sure some fellow book nerds in here will appreciate. I really recommend it for anyone wanting to learn, including you, Christy of course! My bookbinding teacher just got back from a trip to Japan and she got so many wonderful supplies and papers there. I've heard Japan is wonderful for the art, craft and stationery-junkies among us :) 💚💚

Resting is so important. It's so easy to get stuck into working hard, while it is productive, it does cause burnout. I had to start scheduling days where I just took a day to relax and read. It's now a 24 hour readathon I host that just reminds us to rest 😅

A refilling the well vlog is so comforting. Honestly, loads of footage in this one. If you need to meet the algorithm feel free to set up a single cam and do some r'ead-with-me for a half hour' while you get some pages down. We definitely support you getting rest. This was a lovely, gorgeous video with good messages 💛✨

I love watching your videos! I truly appreciate this one because burnout is such a struggle. Mine took literal years to heal properly. I’m just coming out of it. So I really appreciate you as a content creator and a writer showing how you manage. Can’t pour from an empty cup!

Lovely as always! Your words on burnout and productivity really resonated. I was like yesterday-years-old when I finally stumbled onto Cal Newport’s work (in a Creative Pep Talk podcast episode) and his thoughts around “slow productivity” were like medicine to my soul. Just throwing that out there in case you haven’t heard of his work! ❤

I've been in a burnout since 2014. Haven't been able to get out of that rut yet. My day job causes me to not have energy for hobbies as much as I used to. For some reason writing stories was easier in high school for me.

I absolutely adore Macmillan Collector's Libary books. Several years ago, when I lived in Edinburgh I found two books in a charity shop for 1 pound each. I decided I will buy classic english literature in this series. (perfect size and such an elegant style) Now I have 10 books from them, most of them Jane Austen. Furthermore, of course, after your recommendation I put a hand on a copy of Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market as well. Enjoy your holiday! :) Best wishes from Hungary🌻

I would recommend the book "The only Gaijin in the Village" by Iain Maloney. It is about the author's experiences in rural Japan. It is really funny and lighthearded told. I bought it 2020 in Japan. No idea if they still sell it. But it is an incredible good book. I remember finished it on plane on the way back. I was laughing so hard so that some passengers were looking at me funny XD
