Dear Tara, I'm into the fourth month of recovery after a massive stroke. Discovered your videos a few weeks ago and was wowed from the start. During this time I've had a few falls and, of course, you make constant reference to falls and the techniques to adopt to avoid them. In fact, I would like you to feature falls on one of your videos and to talk about techniques of getting off the ground and adapting to the reality of the fall and the damage that it can do, especially to one's self-confidence - not to mention one's brain-box! My best!

That’s why when you visually show us what you are talking about I understand and can mimic what you are helping us with. I hope that makes sense. You will never know how much your videos mean to me. You give me hope and that lifts my spirits and I try harder. Thank you.

🏵💛🏵 Thanks Dr. Tara, very nice exercises again. Getting up stairs is not as hard as getting down for me. Main problem when stepping down is the rolling foot. When the leg lengthens and reaches for the lower step with the involved foot, there is a severe danger of falling. So I look forward to your advice on how to tackle this second of uncertainty before that foot has safe ground again and has to carry the whole body weight. 🌸🤗🌸 Lots of summer greetings from Germany! 💝🌺💝

What if you can’t lift leg up step?
@fjmgbgV
@fjmgbgV 3 жыл бұрын
Have watched your show and would like to ask some question. I have difficulty in walking since childhood. They say I was now legged when I was young and they had me use boots as a kid. I think my issue was that when I walk my front foot looks for something to step on, like drop foot. This causes me to drag my feet such that it does not look that I am lifting my feet. Also when I climb stairs now, the foot that is left on the lower step, when going up hits the step I am climbing such that the front of my shoes hits the step I am Climbing before my foot can clear the step. Any advise or exercise you can recommend?

Dear Dr. Thanks for good videos. I am 7 years into my stroke. Of late have developed CPSP. Pain is 24x7 and excruciating. My whole left side feels freshly crouched. Pins & needle and pain makes limbs stiff & numb. Therefore, not able to walk or use my hand for any good work. Could you please suggest some exercise for reducing CPSP. Thanks a lot.
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for sharing your story. Physiatrists are really great at managing CPSP. As far as exercise, it is multilayered - desensitization, and staying on top of shoulder range of motion. Unfortunately, the less you move it the more it will hurt. I think I will do an entire video on this so stay tuned! And hand in there. I know CPSP can be very frustrating, It will get better! Don't give up!!

Yes, this is a very common problem. Put a target on the ground and try and aim for that. If that doesn't work, put something strudy on the ground in front of the uninvolved leg so that it blocks the foot from coming over. I hope that helps.

What’s your thought on all these knee braces that claim to displace body weight thus enabling to move your legs for walking running and climbing stairs
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial 4 жыл бұрын
I have no opinion as to whether or not it works for the sellers stated purpose (arthritis and other orthopaedic issues). However, I have had patients purchase this thinking that it will enable them to support their body weight with a weak leg (due to a neurologic condition). In which I would say it is not going to work.

Is so fantastic what you are doing, you have gave me so many new ideas of how to handle steps. One question:. How to handle leg swing out if you can't bend your knee while going up steps?
@rehabhqofficial
@rehabhqofficial 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I am so glad it is helpful. If you are using the "up with the good" method, you should not have to bend the leg a whole lot. That being said, if. you leg is stiff straight, you will have to swing it out to the side a little even if you lead with the strong leg. Long story short, I am going over how to bend the involved leg in next weeks video because you need to be able to bend it to go step over step. You can use the exercise to help you learn how to bend the leg. Also, keep working on the exercises in the knee hyperextension video. I hope all this makes sense. :)
