Wow. This is exactly what I needed to hear. My girlfriend Of almost 4 years (since 15 y/o) has been talking about space. And she even said it doesn’t mean the end of us just like the video explained. She just needs some time to be herself again and as much as it killed me, it might be good for me too. It will help me find myself as well, and I kinda like that. I’m exited to tell and hear from my gf ab both of our little experience on not being in the same routine of the last 4 years. I even believe it will make us stronger. When I got into a relationship with my boyfriend, we started spending alot of time together, almost everyday. Not to mention we worked together. I also have a 6 year old daughter that needed my time as well. So when I finally broke it down to him, after spending a lot of time together, he didn't take it to well and I felt like he only saw the negative side of wanting space which was not spending every single minute of every single hour together of every single day, rather than seeing it as giving me time to spend with my daughter exceptionally. This caused an argument between us. Another reason I had suggested space was because we had been spending so much time around each other that we started to argue quite often due to the fact that we were still getting to know one another.

Idk why asking for space is considered a "bad thing" for most people. In fact, I'd consider that mentality a red flag. Seriously, we all need our alone time. We have our own individual goals, hobbies and to do list we'd like to accomplish. We can't always be with someone 24/7 threw out our lives. That's insanity. If you believe someone taking their alone time as a sign of them leaving you, or "not liking you anymore". You'll make it happen. To believe that mentality and not respecting their space. You're only going to push them further away to the point they will leave or lash out. So for God sake, respect their space. To turn "having space" an issue is a weakness in a relationship that needs to be fixed. Personally, as someone who values their independence and time very much, someone not respecting and shaming me having my alone time would infuriate me.

Idk if anyone still reads this but Id just like ur insight on this on what anyone would given what my bf recently went through. The past month, he had just been so flooded by academics to the point even if he wanted to make an effort in the relationship, he couldnt. And I noticed he couldnt even have time for himself, so I was just there constantly supporting and telling him not to worry about me and focus on his things first. But then by mid month, his grandmother passed away, right a day before we were supposed to meet. And I told him to go to his family, they need him and he needs them, and that he doesnt need to worry about me for now. But even when he was with his family, he couldn't mourn the death of his grandmother properly because his academics just really ridiculously stacked high on top of each other. And I just kept supporting and reminding him to take breaks because Im afraid he might feel burnt out at that rate. And recently, by the end of the month, we met and he said although he still loves me, he just cant feel himself at that time, and so empty, and possibly falling out of love too alrdy, and that maybe he just needs some space because he feels so overwhelmed by everything that's happened. And I just feel so powerless to help him because everything that's happened is because of external factors. Right now, Im respecting the space he asked for but when he replies sometimes its also cold. Do you think he just needs time to like really figure himself out and be himself again before being back together with me? Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated

I'm sorry :/ that sounds very difficult for both of you. Unfortunately you can't push someone to be with you but you're doing good respecting his space. I believe that if it's meant to be it will be. It sounds like he is swamped with difficult life things but hopefully he will take time to sort it out and decide what he wants relationship wise. Hopefully he comes back to you and the space is temporary. But if not, don't be too defeated. Be with someone who can and will put in the time to be with you.

Bennie D LOL It’s not that I didn’t “want my fiancé around”, see you’re making it 100% about YOU and not the entirety of the relationship. The reason why I told him we needed time apart is because his responses during our past few discussions pertaining to a certain issue became reactionary. He was reacting on nothing but anger, in short he couldn’t talk about the core subject without getting angry or raising his voice or saying a few hurtful things. I CARE about him and the connection we share, I’m desperately in love with this man and have been with him over 3 years, but it was going to destroy us if we continued like that for any longer. I told him we needed 2wks for us to both think things through, then we’d reconvene and see where we stood and hopefully we would come up with similar solutions. If not? Then we’ll know where to go from there. I didn’t want us seeing each other aka didn’t want him to come over to my place because all it was doing was distracting me AND my daughter. Last year, I had 2 major reconstructive surgeries, and it threw me into a deep depression since I couldn’t walk for months Now, I’m still struggling and I’ve always been a worker, but since he’s always over here and I’ve been focusing more on our future and our marriage than on what me and my daughter need, I’m not doing good financially. My GF is 11 years older and used to not let me leave her sight. The first year of our relationship she would pick me up after work and if I wanted to hang with friends or do anything she would get pissed and essentially wouldn't let me. @@akaaka898 well, it turns out he just really needed some space to think. He was going through a rough patch. And to be honest looking back we both were. It's not bad to want to be alone or don't feel like you need to distance yourself from someone for a bit. It's hard to be on the other end of that, not knowing what's going on in someone else's mind. What I learned from that was that every relationship has ups and downs, some bigger than others. But it's also important to realize that your partner isn't the only person in the world. Sometimes you can't help someone by actively doing something. Being that dependant isn't healthy for either. Now that is way easy to say, and I am super sorry you are feeling this way. I don't blame him for feeling the way he did, I felt bad that I have him the reason to think certain things while I never meant for them to come across that way. I would say to not be scared either way. Do what you feel like you need to do now. Maybe they just really need to be left alone to think, ponder or reconsider. Maybe they are really not feeling great and don't want to talk about it. Be careful not to come across as clingy or demanding but if you want it's never bad to let someone know you are there for them. I really hope for you it's just a small thing and, like me, are overreacting. Because I certainly was!

See, my boyfriend and I are currently on a break. And the reasoning is because lately our lives have been bombarded with different opportunities that could change our future for the better or worse. We both have different lives and we decided to go on a break so we could get in touch with ourselves again. Personally, I felt that I was losing touch and independence with myself and he felt bad that he couldn't give me the attention like he wanted because of how busy he is. So, at the moment, we aren't on speaking terms as we're trying our best to focus on ourselves without having to worry about giving each other attention. When you have the comfort of work, home, and relationship it does create a problem because you get stuck in that constant routine. If you take the space but come home at the end of the day talk and tell each other about your day and be more positive but still create that time for together then things will work out slowly. Don't be to pressured or do not create situations in your mind that make you push and push and push it's just normal to get space and give it back. Otherwise it will fall apart and you cannot salvage it.

So I have been with this girl for over a month now and I know it's only been one month but everything went perfectly. First, she wasn't sure that she was ready for a relationship due to her past experiences, but after we met she just fell in love with me and wanted to meet me the whole time. She smiled at me when I looked at her and the way she did it and looked at me I could feel that everything made sense. She always used to call me when she got off work and she always said she missed me and things like that. We have kissed and have had sex, and I even got invited to her mom's wedding and well she even got jealous one time when I texted a specific girl because she could feel that the girl was into me somehow. She wasnt mad about it haha, but anyway we were gonna meet this Friday and she longed and hyped it up the whole time. 3 days ago though she felt down and I tried speaking to her about it and trying to calm her down and all. The other day she came back to school, was with her classmates (only Girls), and then she told me that things were going too fast and that she needed time for herself to fully think about herself and what she wanted. First, I was confused and tried to text her but the day after I realized that I should back off and let her text me from now om and continue focusing on myself. So far she doesnt feel very well when she is home and she hangs with her girlfriends alot. I have just been worried if she never was truly in love with me from the start because it clearly seemed like she was. I do agree things went fast but I am not that type of person to notice that. I do not expect her to come back, but I respected her decision and I hope she will. I will give an update. She is barely in her social medias and on snapchat she typed in our convo for like 2 min and then she stopped and was into the convo for like 5 - 10 min. Weird, well its only been like 3 days so far. I am new to this whole space thing.

Well, it didn't go that well. Apparently she is dealing with stuff in her life and I didn't really give her space at all in the first week. A big mistake we both made was that we were never really clear what kind of space she wanted. Like if she wanted me to contact her sometimes to ask how she is, or if she literally just wanted herself to text me whenever she was ready. Sometimes she did text, but she never really wanted to talk about us. More about what she has done, and what I have done so far. I broke up with her or quit things with her a week ago because I feel like it's good for both of us to just let go. She clearly wasnt ready for anything and it will pain us both to know that we are still not completely broken up. In the end I just waited for answers to see if I could move on or not. Just wait 100 percent till she texts you. Maybe like 2 - 3 weeks later you can ask how she is and how it is going with her and stuff, but thats about it.

I have depression and anxiety and my ex i was with did the same thing. But the new boyfriend i have is amazing he understands he reassures. He helps me Talk my feelings out and help me with my depression and anxiety. She simply isn’t the one. You will find someone else better and love u for You with whatever problems you have. But remember also u have to back track and realize. That you have to understand where your partner is coming from, and realize the wrong youve done too. The arguments will put a strain on a relationship especially everyday. For rn work on your and learn your bad traits so if u do catch yourself doing it fix them or find other ways to communicate.

Space to let things or emotions calm down, is completely normal IMO. In adult relationships, it should be understood by both sides. But not everyone understands this. Recently, I was in a long-standing argument with my dad. It took a long time and it finally got resolved, unfortunately for me, not to my benefit. I was disappointed, angry (not entirely, but at least in part rightfully so) and I thought to myself - "I need distance for a while from this bullshit and from him". Not forever, but just a little bit of space so things can settle down and I can gain some perspective on them. My dad however can't compute this behavior and to him, once this thing got resolved, it's ALL over and I should IMMEDIATELY start behaving as if nothing happened at all. And if I still have emotions about the whole situation and need space, he's baffled, he immediately starts to emotionally blackmail by acting as if you were hurting his feelings, and if you insist on keeping the distance, he gets really offended and takes it personally. It's really weird to me, the complete disregard for someone else's feelings, it's not even malicious, but I don't get it. It actually offends me to be honest and whenever I'm in a situation like this, I feel like the other person is pushing me somewhere I don't want to be and I either bend to his/her will, or I'm seen as an asshole.
