RID is not needed for recreational under 250grams. The video note says the opposite.

Incorrect, the note says the RID is registered with a registration for under 250. I never said you "had to" register it. My 249g DJI Mini 2 was registered when I flew recreationally. I always "trust but verify" most of my videos material and so at the time of this video recording, the FAA allowed recreational sub-250 pilots to enter their RID if they have one. I mention that for people who are like me, want to comply even if you don't HAVE to comply. Nearly all my flights are "recreational" however I have my Part 107. So I really didn't HAVE to get it for 99.999% of my Mini 2 flights. Backstory to why I go above and beyond (pun intended): since I have my flight videos here, and one day soon the channel could possibly be monetized, with my Part 107 and every drone I own being registered, it makes my conversations easy if I am ever contacted by FAA. FAA "Is your drone registered?" Me: "Yes, all are" (no digging to see what I flew that day) "Do you have remote ID?" "Yes, all are" (no digging to see what I flew that day and if it had it) And then after that I probably have to dig to see which drone if they ask for the registration or Remote ID numbers. I want for any FAA rep to know I'm not skating by doing bare minimum, because I want our conversation to stay simple, short and non-punitive. Where the FAA will start looking at you harder is if you appear to be doing the bare minimum, or skating by the rules (e.g. you have extended life batteries in your Mini but didn't register it). If you can show them you're being safe, following shared air space rules, then even if you're wrong, the conversation will likely be positive and not punitive. It will be educational (on what you did wrong) and end "corrective training," to help you learn from your mistake (e.g. not checking your airspace, etc).

Sooo...it's about USELESS other than a $100 "box check" required by the "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave." Tried to wire mine to the FC to use it's GPS info...didn't work and based on your, Bardwells and MY experience...is a useless GPS device...drone weight...

No I did read in Joshua Bardwell's video review, within the comments, it does work. The wiring diagram was wrong, and I think they ended up using BetaFlight's tech support (or Discord?) to figure it out. I think the RX and TX were swapped and I think there was a protocol change. After that it worked. I am sorta slammed right now or I'd go spend awhile digging up the comment. In the next day or two, I'll try to circle back, find it and let you know. The FliteTest tech support is not really good from my experience, so I'd look to them as a very last resort.

I couldn't find it, but did you follow this: www.flitetest.com/articles/connecting-ez-id-to-betaflight-for-gps-passthrough If so, there's two things I'd try if it's not working. First is the easier of the two, change the protocol. Then if no joy with all of them, try reversing the TX and RX as I think I read they were mislabeled on the boards (don't know if this was resolved). So swap the two wires, and try again with MSP protocol. If no joy, try changing the protocols again. That's the best I can do until I get around to trying to make mine work. I am not in the mood to update my BetaFlight to a version compatible, and I've since bought a DJI FPV drone... so I don't need to have it up and flying yet, but I will one day when a lot of other projects are completed.
