here's hoping I can use this technique pulling out my fwd car wheel hub just so I can change the rotor without disturbing the wheel bearings. It's an odd 80s design where the rotor was bolted behind the wheel hub+bearing assembly. I would just sent it to a workshop if I haven't broken the caliper bracket due to a wheel almost popped off because the mechanic negligence after installing a driveshaft without a cotter pin, not to mention my car's model year calipers aren't even available used so I had to buy a later model that uses a different calipers but same knuckle only to realised that my current rotor is 2 3 mm too wide. and this is my 1st time doing any major work on my own car.

Thank you for that video. I noticed some of these videos there is an inner. tube once you pull out that shaft. Do you leave that in or how do you take that out? Do you oil that shaft when you put it back in or do you replace the bearing wipe it down and put it back in and then fill the differential up. Thank you and I really appreciate your channel.

I do not have a video on removing the outer bearing race, but if I recall Bleepin Jeep has a video on using some chain to do it. If you search "rear axle outer bearing race removal" I think you will find everything you need

@rileymatthews86376 жыл бұрын
Also my axle nuts are still on cause I don't have an impact any ideas on how to get those off without an impact while the car is in the air? Also there's no brakes.
@DEInTheGarage6 жыл бұрын
I have had some luck in that situation by putting a breaker bar or pry bar or something between the lug studs and then spinning the hub until it is wedged between the studs on one site and the ground on the other. This is a bit sketchy as it puts strain on the studs and could mess up the threads or bent the stud, but it has worked for me before.

I am going to try this on my 2006 chevy uplander. Any other advice?
@DEInTheGarage5 жыл бұрын
This is not applicable for your Uplander as you have independent suspension and not a solid axle with semi-float axle shafts like my Jeep. Your CV axles should just pop out once whatever is holding them in is removed. I am not totally familiar with the Uplander, but your front shafts will probably only come out if you unbolt the wheel bearing. Do you have the AWD version?

Would this work for a front wheel drive cv axle? I don't have a slide hammer. I'm replacing the passenger side on my 2000 buick.
@DEInTheGarage6 жыл бұрын
Your front CV isnt pressed in like this, it is retained by the steering knuckle. I am not familiar with that particular vehicle to give you the exact process, but your CV should just slide out once you turn the knuckle or remove it.
@joedoe10965 жыл бұрын
No, you'll separate the axle and bust your thermoplastic boots. You have to have a tool that applies pressure from behind the CV half shaft. Look up "how to make a CV axle remover for $10" for an easy solution.

@DEInTheGarage6 жыл бұрын
I am not familiar with a 2006 Impala, but no. This is going to be for a solid axle. Your impala has independent suspension front and rear and it is a front wheel drive car. That means you dont have axle shafts in the rear and you have CV axles in the front. Those are actually easier to remove as they do not seat in the axle tube. May I ask what you are trying to repair? I might be able to give you better more specific advice
