When I first discovered Ren I was hesitant to watch each video because I was afraid I'd be disappointed after falling in love with Hi Ren and then The Tales of Jenny and Screech. Yes, Ren is a master storyteller. And the creative partnership he has with Samuel Perry-Falvey on these live performance videos is incredible. The fact that they painted such a vibrant and tragic tale that completely engrosses the viewer with just a man, a guitar, and carefully chosen locations - with virtually no budget is mind blowing. I like how you compared it to watching an artist paint. The brushstrokes and creative decisions are brilliant. Ren and Sam are developing a pilot episode to pitch for a Netflix series. But it’s on the back burner until he finishes his next album. I personally think he should also look at creating a stage production. He also is working on another Tale - it won’t be connected to Jenny/Screech/Violet, but will be in the same universe that he’s created. I think it’s also important to highlight how skillfully he portrayed cycles of violence and generational trauma. So now, going back to Jenny and Screech, you will connect with those two characters much differently as you piece together their backstory. Would their lives have been different if they were able to grow up together? Or were their lives always fated to end tragically? A Shakespearean level tragedy of modern life.

So much to say and comment on, but for now (Hi), at the beginning of Violet's Tale, re tapping, Ren has taught himself from KZbin videos, so he has learnt a lot of guitarist specific ideosyncracies. He loves Django Reinhardt, a Belgian Gypsy Jazz guitarist who lost movement in all but two fingers of his right hand. So he played on an acoustic guitar (1940s) with two fingers and tapping. Ren's Patreon is really affordable, and he has guitar tutorials for at least the first two tales up. He explains where he gets which technique from.

He’s not the world’s greatest vocalist, but he’s very good. He’s not the world’s greatest rapper, but he is very good. Actor. Lyricist. Poet. Producer. Humanitarian. Barber. Very, very good. I’m not sure if it has sort of helped to be self taught or if it’s simple due to his creative ADHD brain, but there is just something so beautifully unrestricted about Ren’s approach to music and storytelling. Who else would incorporate a phone call in the middle of a song or almost dance with the camera to further the storytelling? Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery with his storytelling that it pulls you in and forces you to keep watching - even when it gets physically uncomfortable during Violet’s Tale. And Ren uses this ability to shed light on far too real issues in the world. Ren is special. Anyway great reaction! Now you get to wait in eager anticipation with the rest of us, cause Ren has said that he and his cinematographer Sam have plans to film a pilot to pitch to Netflix when Ren has finished treatments in Canada and moves back to the UK. All we know is that it will be in the same raw style as this trilogy, but that is enough for me to say that if Netflix doesn’t give Ren his own show, they are fools 😂

Stylistically, I think my favorite part of the three tales is when Ren sets the stage for Violet’s Tale. Just before he starts, there’s this pregnant pause where the anticipation is built simple from him stretching his neck, breathing and just the slightest sound from a string. In any other video, that would have been edited out or so insignificant that you’d never notice. Here, it’s used as a part of the story and it’s incredibly effective.

It is worth going through the comments. This one isn't my story, but I am still captivated by the beauty especially of Violet's Tale while equally feeling the violation of the eyelids for example personally which breaks down the barrier to the horror in the scene that follows. And I stop to think, especially in the shocker at the end, about all that leads to this. Others who watched this knew the story all to well. And you will find them in the comments. My stories are told in other songs, but we all feel seen. And that is one of the reasons why renegades are such a ferocious fanbase. I will promote the hell out of whatever he does, even if it weren't quite as good as it all is, as a thank you, and because he deserves to get to fulfil his creativity and life as much as possible. And someone who then also chooses to use his grown platform for positivity, well of course I am here, and I am doing my bit, encouraged, outside of the Reniverse. I chose to step into creativity fully recently, thanks to Ren (Genesis). I needed to change careers and have another year before I need to make it work. So wish me luck!

This became known as Bardcore. Modern day tragedy and sung, performed and played so well. The harmonics were all part of Ren and Samuel's plan for the trilogy. Ren did a video before the songs of his phone getting stolen by Screech. It nearly backfired as friends reported it to KZbin and Ren lost subscribers lol. Great reaction!! We all were left speechless and shocked.

It's a piece of storytelling genius. We sit here hundreds of years later and still quote Shakespeare ( mainly without knowing much about his plays.) However I do believe that this masterpiece will last for a eternity as long as humans seek out and find what talent we have and had.
