No one on the planet has had overly developed upper pecs that look anything but awesome. I blew mine up with smith machine over head pressing with a little incline, and also single cable one arm overhead presses. (Really heavy). Everyone hates on over-developed anterior delts with smaller rear delts, but I actually like that shape a bit more. So hitting upper pecs and anterior delts at same time is a bonus. Cables get that fibre angle like nothing else.

If you are looking purely for size and definition, I would agree that incline is a good way to go, but for the goal is getting a big bench, heavy flat will do that plus hit chest well enough for those that are not purely bodybuilders, IMO.

On a generally exceptional channel, this video is particularly outstanding. And not just because it agrees with what I already think! The careful consideration not only of bench angles but also of variation and individuality is more thorough and considerate than most fitness videos can claim. I'll also add that, if I were on a desert island, my SECOND exercise choice - besides surviving - would be specifically *dumbbell* incline (~30o). It's hard to beat barbell for strength, but for hypertrophy the range of motion you can achieve on dumbbell is just wild.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that most gym bros (myself included) way over emphasize chest workouts and chest development. If you’re looking for that nice beach body, a few sets of slight incline bench/DB press along with a little ancillary work like dips or flies is plenty. The rest of the look will come from biceps/triceps/shoulders/low body fat. And of course quads and a thick back to round out the look. You really don’t need an Arnold style chest. A lot of male fitness models have a relatively small chest. Of course that’s just speaking for the beach body look. If you’re looking to compete or have a true bodybuilder build, it’s a different story.

My personal favorite is a 30 degree incline bench... I don't do flat bench anymore. I like the dimensions that the 30 degree incline builds your chest. But then I do different dumbbell bench press movements... 1) regular dumbbell bench press 2) twisting dumbbell bench press 3) dumbbell pec flys 4) dumbbell barrel presses Then I have been doing push ups for more of a lower chest focused workout... With hands inward close to my sides... And my hands super low above my belly button.

It is not about the exercise that much but more how you feel the pectorals engagement, activation.
