18, 19, 20... Riding my 650-Four motorcycle through the mountains of British Columbia in 1978-79 with the cassette deck blasting out the tunes of the 6 or 7 tapes tucked away in my fairing. Take It On the Run was the first song I ever heard from R.E.O Speedwagon. I heard it while I was playing Putt Putt golf with my Dad when I was little. I fell in love with the song and especially Kevin's voice. Later I would actually go to an R.E.O Speedwagon show with my Dad. Garry Richrath (R.i.P) was one heck of a guitar player and his tone always got to me. I always felt he was underrated. He played the heck out of that guitar when I saw them live.

This is my favorite of their power ballads. But man, they also delivered some true rock anthems. "Roll With the Changes" is one of their greatest. BTW, the sound seemed muddy on this one? I don't know if it was your equipment, or if it was just the particular YT video that you were listening to, but I just wanted to point it out. (Your mic sounded fine.)

REO Speedwagon really started the Power Ballad where you have nice slow love song but then gets supercharged with some nice guitar riffs - its wonderful. Before you either had a slow balled or a loud Rock and Roll tune but never the two would mix before REO. Kevin Cronen is the lead singer and keyboard man. You also had his partner in crime Mr. Gary Richrath on that Amazing Guitar. They also had a great supporting cast on drums, bass. They had a whole string of great songs but got their start as a Local Band Near University of Illinois at Champaign in the early 70s. One of my favorites is a song written by Gary Richrath about when he got stuck in traffic in a snowstorm in the Mountains of Colorado entitled Ridin' The Storm Out do check the live video. FYI the opening bars of this song were used by the Chicago Bulls in the 90s when the players were introduced.
