Great video and wanted to say Thank You for taking the time to share your expertise :) I used your procedure to replace the worn out thru hull cockpit self bailing scupper tubes on my 1972 Neptune 14 Sailboat. It looks professionally done and should probably last for years to come. My tubes didn't come with the O rings but I used the O ring size of 1-3/16 X 15/16 X 1/8 as it fits tight on the 1 inch tubing and perfectly under the flared lip. Thanks again for sharing!

Very useful, as my Edgewater had a leak in the anchor locker drain. Drove me nuts as I thought it was in the transom. Good video.

I bought the parts from Sue Lovell at Beacon Marine, she shipped them to me. Just tell her what year Whaler you have and she will send you what you need. Her contact number is 920-793-2715

I'm not sure I would use those rubber O rings. If they go bad you will have to do this all over again.

In my humble opinion the rubber O ring will out live the average adult :) If you don't use the O ring and water gets in between brass tube and the transom you gonna have more severe issues to deal with :) Just saying.....

As a professional boat repair shop, I agree. I do not install an o-ring most of the time they are not even included, and, the o-ring will sometimes break or squeeze out when tightening. A good sealant (NOT 5200!!!) will do the trick. I recommend Boat Life Brand Life Seal.

So what happens if your transom is not a straight line coming down. Seems I have a bit of an angle to get the tube in. I tried today and I had to give extra pressure that I went through the washer.

What if you want a treaded hole for a drain plug?

Can you please advise how many of what size tubes you need for a classic Montauk? Are they 1"? How many, how long? Thanks.

I believe they are 7/8

One more question... why is it necessary to heat the tube?
@DainichiKichi5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Johnson you have to anneal the brass so that it doesn’t crack when you tighten the end.

Today I discovered I need to do EXACTLY the same thing. Please help me: Where did you obtain the brass tubing, and the flaring tool?
@MABeerBrewer4 жыл бұрын
Flaring tube is on amazon. Brass tubing and orings can be bought from McMaster-Carr
@bushpilotdude71542 жыл бұрын
Amazon 1 inch X 3 inch or whatever length it takes to get thru your hull with at least 1/8 " extra for flare. The flaring tool also on Amazon for 15.00 bucs. 3m 4200 also Amazon. O rings any hardware store.

I am in the process of doing this as well. However, my bilge drain is at slight angle. The forums recommend cutting the so that the reveal is equal all the way around. However when using the flange tool you can;t properly flange the o-ring. Any suggestions or things you did?
@CorpseGrinder19673 жыл бұрын
Dont use the o-rings. Just use a good amount of sealant.
