When I was an RA, I had a resident come running to me while I was on duty saying that the first floor was flooding. Our first floor was half basement level and it rained a lot so I wasn't super concerned and followed him down (this is 11:30 on a school night and I was student teaching that semester). He forgot to tell me one big detail... it was sewage that was backing up into the hallway! I called the RD on duty and he had no idea what to do and maintenance was off for the the night since it was so late. What I ended up doing was grabbing my rain boots and an old mop to sop up as much sewage as I could, once I finally found the source and stopped it. I spent 2.5-3 hours doing the best I could to get the hallway to not look like a swamp, though couldn't do much about the smell. I slept like a firefighter with my rain boots next to my bed in case it happened again.

The only "issue" I ever had w/ an RA was when we decided to throw a LAN party to play Counterstrike in the dorms. we had 2 rooms connected by wires out in the hallway and we were probably not being quiet plus there was open liquor. I lived in a "wet dorm" which means that liquor was fine so long as ur overage so she walked by the rooms 4 times over the course of 2 hours... then took everyone IDs, saw we were all overage, and then just let us continue having our LAN party. What a nice gal!

My only horror story from being an RA in undergrad was our highly inappropriate hall director who was essentially our boss/supervisor. The students living in the dorm were honestly no problem, but the hall director was the most immature and at times even racist 25 year old woman I'd ever met. She got fired by the end of the year for attending a fraternity party while she was supposed to be on duty, but trust me, that was the least of her offenses that year.

Not an RA but my father is a contractor for plumbing, heating, bathrooms and stuff like that. So one evening, we get a phone call from a small restaurant where my father does the maintenance. They call about some water on the floor of which no one could tell where it came from and every time they wipe it up, it magically comes back. So my father heads out, mind you, it's already half past eight or something, to look at the problem. And it takes a long time for him to come back. Like 4 hours. Turns out, a pipe in one of the bathrooms burst. The bathrooms are upstairs and the floor in the hallway and the stairs have carpet on them. So the carpet soaked up water and it slowly started making its way down the stairs and pooled in a low spot on the main floor a few feet away from the stairs. The funky thing about this? No one noticed. Like, no guests, no servers, no one noticed this burst pipe that was literally pouring water into this bathroom. By the time they decided to call someone about the magic puddle of water, the damage had already been substantial. They had to tear out a lot of the bathroom, the entire carpet, replace some of the subfloor, the stairs and the whole area needed to be dried with those industrial driers for weeks on end. Moral of the story? If there's a mysterious puddle of water that reappears after you clean it up, immediately call someone.

I used to get noise complaints all the time. Then you can't say that someone called so you end up looking like the jagweed. One time I had to check a party because I got a call at almost 3am. I went there and it was like 20ppl. They had us check IDs. It was so bad and I was tired. This one dude was giving me a hard time telling me I had no life because I randomly came to break up a party. I remember saying "yeah because at 2:45am I decided to say screw my warm,cozy room, let me get up and walk 4 buildings over to check in on something I can't even hear, also why are you 24 hanging out with nothing but freshmen when you don't even live here." Awkward silence. I'm pretty sure they knew he was old enough to buy liquor but not that old.
