Just to be sure - you understood that only our Operating System is affected, not our Apex accounts? We can still install Windows and play the game...the problem for the majority of us is (re)installing Windows. In my case - I would have to do this for Apex only as all my other games work on Linux.

As someone who has enjoyed Linux for many many years, this change makes complete sense. Most of the time, Linux users make up such a small amount of your user base. If the user base is higher due to people who are using exploits, it's understandable to want to drop support. Now, do I think it's a good solution? Kinda? Imo it's a temporary fix to a larger problem and I hope they bring back Linux support when they've somewhat stabilized the hacking problem. As someone who has worked on anitcheat systems, it's a near impossible problem to solve. It's a constant arms race against the hack creators and you'll keep dumping money into it. In my experience, creating better avenues for responding to hackers (especially in higher ranks) is a more efficient solution then trying to beat them at their own game.

lol no it’s not, apex and eac ran in a compatibility layer which doesn’t allow the anti cheat to run in the kernel space. all you had to do was hide your process and run it as root and you bypassed it.

It is true that you can easily bypass an Anti-Cheat running purely in a compatibility layer, but if it escapes the sandbox (which is literally a built-in feature in Wine/Proton) it can check anything really if made well, even ask for root access.

one thing respawn needs to do is phone number identification, it will not only prevent cheating, now when a new user is using the same number twice the ban will be instant to detect and basically if remember from the guideline be a able to sue people for using hacks on their game. A phone number has lots of information on a person and respawn can get little buck back from hackers.

Hey Legends, all the time and money you put into our game doesn't matter to us because we refuse to pay for better servers and anti-cheat. I can no longer play my favorite game because a small part of the Linux community was cheating. There are far more people cheating on Windows, so this will not make a difference. They also call Linux a small part of the player base but then claim that most of the "insane cheats" are on it. If that's the case, it sounds like there will be no more cheaters. It also sounds like there will be no more people using Windows DMA hardware or flash drives to cheat. All this means is EA wants the majority of their player base (Windows) to think they are working on things. If they actually were, then instead of banning all operating systems running the Linux kernel, they would have introduced an AI-based anti-cheat or invested in their servers. Ever wonder why some shots get hit markers but don't deal damage? It's because they are using a low tick rate (basically server FPS) on cheap servers to save money. This will not make any noticeable difference in-game. (Not to say I don't want it to) P.S. Referring to Linux as an OS just highlights how little time and understanding they put into this. It’s a kernel, not an operating system. I don't fault anyone for making this mistake, but if you're going to block everyone on Linux from playing, at least know what it is.

All Linux users have to do is run a virtual machine and use that to play apex on windows. It's not as horrible as everyone says it it. Also, there's a small percent of Linux users but the majority of the ones that use it cheat. I was paired up with a bloodhound yesterday and then I died, I spectated them and they were using aimbot to see where people were behind walls and shit. It was ridiculous. Dude was on PC too

But guess what, Android is not and Android is Linux, so someone took Android and copy and pasted it essentially as an app for any other Linux distro and now you can play Roblox on Linux, making Roblox think you're on Android. They stated in their release that other games like Fornite and CoD already ban Linux for the same reasons. So I don't think this is really something that anyone should criticize Respawn for. Besides using Linux is a CHOICE and is entirely optional. There is nothing stopping someone from using Windows.

@tinolm6202 considering most cheaters come from pc and pc players being a significantly smaller part of the fanbase (people constantly forget apex exists on multiple platforms for some reason) id say its a fair trade and makes most other pc gamers have a way better experience. I dont think they'd make the change without the data to justify it. And if linux was what gave cheaters the work arounds, then the fanbase should be happy they took the steps the community has been asking for. The anti cheats updates and config bans were their attempts to get rid of them and that wasnt enough for the community so respawn took the drastic measures and overall they didnt lose that much of the fanbase and id argue the game has lost more cheaters from this than the non cheaters since now at the very least the work around will be alot harder. Again, Apex is available on multiple platforms and apps and can still be accessed on Windows. And since most streamers and content creators stem from pc and most can afford to swap to Windows devices overall, this benefited the game more than it hurts it. If anything, they players should blame the cheaters who abused Linux for the change. Respawn wouldn't casually say no to a portion of their player base if Linix players made up a majority of the overall base or even pc base. So hey, respawn gotta do what they gotta do. we wanted cheaters gone, and we got it. Were their casualties sure but id say its not as bad as people saying this change is gonna kill apex. This is one of the few decisions where Respawn didn't do something greedy or make a change and left everyone in the dark for better or worse. They've been doing a better job to keep their promises.

Steam... literally the steamdeck. Are you dense? Only PCs are popular with Windows, lol. Nintendo and Playstation use FreeBSD, even farther than Linux, lol. Windows is ass, you have to pay for it to use as your OS on the device you're developing. I guess you don't want the option to switch to a whole bunch of different OSes while Microsoft's is a ticking bomb with it's spyware and bs AI features to eat up your performance.
