Those spiders are beneficial. I probably have 20 of them in my garden. They eat insects. I've been around them 30 years or more without issue. Argiope garden spider. Edit... the steps look amazing!!! Great job!

The best, most secure perimeter fence, all classes of livestock holding, would be woven wire fencing. A lot of people do 4’ woven wire with 2 strands of barbed wire above it (but they have non-barbed wire or you could run a strand of hot wire at the top). I’d pull all that barbed wire, it can do a lot of damage

The pavers probably will be beneficial. Especially to those who are used to coming going up the steps. My grandson lovingly replaced my rotten steps. He didn't realize that it wasn't the same height as the old one I have been using for years. Sometimes, I misstep walking up. Something is off, not much but enough to cause me to stub my toe. The bottom step up is too tall for an elderly person. Thank you for allowing my opinion as active Grammy.

The fencing you have now will not work for sheep. Jason of Sew the Land lost two of his lambs that got scared and charged thru the fence, and were elecutited and strangled to death. You will need solid woven fencing (metal wire) for sheep.

I saw that episode and it really made me think twice about netting, especially since I've lost turkeys to charged fences myself.

Barbed wire is not good for sheep. You will need at least some cattle fence rolled out. You could put a hot wire on top to detour predators. I love sheep. There are many different kinds of sheep. Look into the sheep that are hair sheep that she'd in the summer so you don't have to shear them. Some breeds you have to sheer twice a year. Stay away from those.

I had sheep for years, Depends on what kind you get, . You first need 3 pens for sheep, they need to be rotated due to worms, I have always found small wire animal wire the best, Even stucco wire will work. . Your strands of Barbwire may not , need 5 strands and close together, Electric fencing will work , I have never used it , We always had wool sheep and they will walk right thru it, Halter break all sheep and you can lead them any where, Moving them with just a food pail does not always work, and when 1 runs they all follow, never try and chase sheep you will lose the race, But you have enough green grass to care for 5 easy, Nice job on the steps, Lots of small job every where for all of us to do now, Think its that time of year LOL

Some food for thought...Poor Jason at Sow the Land tried his hand at sheep this year. Tragically, he lost TWO of his sheep he purchased to getting stuck in his electric fence. Your porch looks much better! It's so satisfying watching those years of dirt peel off with the power washer.

sheep WILL knock down/jump over net fencing if they are frightened enough....you've gotta consider there are two perspectives here : one is the animal themselves and the other, probably more difficult is the predators that'll nose around. You've got containment and you've got protection to consider, right? fencing. it's a bummer. a fairly expensive bummer, but if you've lost your livestock because it's been inadequate (or you've just been unlucky), then it's worth every penny. (we've had sheep both knock down net fencing and totally respect a fairly rickety 4 strand barbwire fence - and we were lucky that the nearby coyotes were dissuaded from closer contact by our llamas. but the sheep did best with solid/woven wire and NONE of the local coyotes could get through it)

You might want to consider a metal mobile pen on wheels for the sheep. The only down side is having to move it to fresh pasture more often.

I hate that net fencing. To many animals get tangled and die. Ask Jason at Sow the Land re netting and sheep. I would just install what we call hog wire (or sheep wire) on the lower part of the fencing and keep the barb wire on top (or a hot wire - much safer). It's just galvanized welded wire fence. Can get it at Home Depot for about $300 for 330 feet. Love your videos. Keep 'em coming!

Honestly for the amount of money that you will spend on electronetting - I would sooner see you invest in field fencing (4ft woven mesh) for your perimeter. It is an asset any way you look at it. It is safety for not only keeping your stock IN - but everything else OUT! I had all of my neighbors fields fenced in to rotate my flock of 50 through the neighborhood. My sheep respected the double stranded hotwire fence - however the stray dogs did not and ripped apart some of my sheep and caused the others to blindly run in fear and they were all over the place. At our place we perimeter fenced with woven wire and cut paddocks within it with one strand of wire for the sheep. In the future having solid perimeter fencing will allow you the flexibility, peace of mind and added property value by going the extra mile. Worth the investment in my opinion.

Steps look great now and the deck is looking so much better too, look forward to seeing the continued revamp. Sorry no nowt about keeping animals or fencing so no advice but I am sure you will do your due diligence before you decide. I think I may know who your visitor may be. All I will say is maybe a regular visit to the Kramer homestead around now possibly (of course this may make me look like an idiot as I am rarely right but hey ho 😂).

Sheep are not that hard to keep in. They are not like goats. Your 2-3 acres is ample room for 3 sheep, especially rotationally grazed! Your 3 strand barbed wire won't work, but if you put the temporary fencing inside it, the visual barrier would be enough to secure both. Is it cheaper to use electric netting to subdivide a paddock, or solid fences? That's going to be the deciding factor, I think. You could keep the sheep in with chicken wire over the barbed, but that's not going to be any kind of predator barrier. Sheep test fences when they are hungry, or their pasture is eaten down, while there is lots of green on the other side. That's when the chicken wire or electric netting would not work.

I was chatting with a breeder of Icelandic sheep, and her opinion to me was woven wire was the minimum needed to fence in sheep. Within that you can try electric but she said her big fluffy sheep would just barge right through it. Hair sheep might be different 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I was asking because I want some sheep too

Lots of plans to make. You guys are getting there a little at a time. People will say oh just put up a new fence not realizing how much that costs. Even if you are doing it yourself.

I would say having a good strong woven wire perimeter fence is a BIG investment but a needed one. It would minimize loss if livestock was to get loose and a bigger deterrent to 2 legged trespassers. It would also be beneficial if you got a guardian animal (dog or donkey).

If you get sheep, lambs, lock them in your chicken pen for 2 weeks, work with them to get use to you all, before putting them out in a net pen, Lambs are very strong and will bolt from a net pen with just a shelter,

Hey Yeoman Sean. For some strange reason, I have been like, "Where's the Yeoman Update !!" Some days I don't know if I am coming or going !!" This morning when I got up it was (7c /44f) all day it was around (10c/50f) right now at 6:30p it is (13c/55f). It's cooling off up here. This week will see single digits, overnight. You might want to check out Tom Pemberton, over in the UK. He's got an entire huge farm menagerie of animals, sheep, goats, lots of Moo Cows, (his main job) a farm food shop and a raw milk stand. His sheep are inside a wooden frame paddock. But he moves them out into the fields as well, that only have wire fencing and an electric strand to demarcate paddocks.

One of the best setups for sheep that I saw was created by Ben (Hollar Homestead) for Justin Rhodes. Ben had welded a mobile pen on wheels for sheep that was moved daily and had a shade structure, minerals and hay feeds build onto the unit. They then used a bucket for water, which the sheep didn't use much of. Like Justin you have a lot of pasture, so I believe that would work out great. And you won't have to worry about fencing and electricity. I would imagine it would work best if it you had a couple of those built to hold 2-4 sheep each. If you're aiming for lamb, it'll allow you to keep the ram and an emotional support whether in one pen when not being bred. And when you want them together, you could maybe dock the pens together.

The deck looks great! Just a suggestion, put a third stringer under the middle of the stair treads. All the weight is concentrated there when people use stairs, and over time, the treads will bow - even though you used two inch lumber (which these days is only 1.5 inch.)

Enjoyed the steps build, Sean. They look great as does the newly repaired and cleaned deck. I'm looking forward to seeing what animals you get this coming year. I guess one of the main considerations for animals is the type of meat you prefer, since this will be one of the reasons for the animal. Perhaps the next would be the cost of feeding said animal over the period of time to grow them out. On fencing, the wire fencing seems to work for the Kraemer's as well as the Hollar's and Sew the land for their pig population. Lots to think about for sure. Y'all have a Blessed day.

What a great job on the deck. Now that Henry is a toddler, the family has more freedom to just hang out again. The all consuming schedule of diapers, feedings, naps, soothing, and work doesn’t give a young family much free time. Enjoy the wonderful life you’ve built for yourself. God bless.

I have one of those spiders that builds a web around my front porch every year. As I was growing up, we called them writing spiders because of their web. I don’t like spiders but I leave this one alone and it goes away when cold weather sets in. Great video, Sean. It’s always good to do upkeep around the house. Have a fantastic week. 😊
