Not a bad idea, but - oh boy - this is where flipping bikes could easily start to appear really not so profitable, especially for folks with a less legit shop setup to streamline the work. Buy a stand alone bike stand for around £50 and a very cheap table cloth for around £5. Spend a little money on tools or just borrow some from a friend and you have a space that you can work on bikes!! I have built a custom bike in my bedroom with virtually the same stuff, and if you check out Seth's earlier videos, you will notice just how small his area for working on bikes is!

@@user-ln8ko7df7p yes😂 a multi tool only costs like £15 for a somewhat decent one, and a small pump costs around the same. Spoons are really tire levers in disguise! You can find a lot of tools for dirt cheap at charity or antique shops which will do the job. Or chances are if you have ever put together some furniture, you will have the Allen keys which come with it! The bare minimum will do for bikes, and tbh you dont really need all the high end tools unless you are working on bikes all day every day!

I am a bike enthusiast to the point I haven't owned a car in 11 years. Bikes are expensive and are usually at a price point I will just move along until I find one that fits. My point is I don't like overpaying for bikes knowing that at the heart of most $200 bikes is a beast that can be brought out with some well chosen components and like you I have years worth of good components in my bike barn to put to good use. I think $600 would have been more than fair for this Kona - it's a Kona and that alone is a premium that can be safely added to the value of the bike. $450 was a steal knowing how much detail and time you put into these bikes - you are a stud man - keep 'em coming and going!

My newest one is a Motobecane Fantom Trail DS full suspension that was $320, it needed a new front tube and rim truing, as well as a standard tune up. So right about $400 total and the bike is ready for anything this amateur can throw at it. After reading through numerous comments the most valuable of things is not included in the breakdown of component costs. Labor. Time spent from looking for the project. Purchasing the bike. Teardown and rebuild. Posting an ad and communication with perspective buyers. There is a lot of time in this project. Even the revenue that this video will earn is not going to cover your labor. Time is hands down the most valuable. There is no amount of money that purchases more time. No idea what a solid bike tech makes. My observation is you're in the red on everyone of these. But it was entertaining. Good job.

@@MrRafagigapr if you watch "this guy" 's channel, you'll know that he pretty much likes messing with bikes. its a hobby, not a job. I've never met someone that said unclogging toilets is their hobby

I'd love to see "time spent" in your valuations. I know you make money on the video aspect, but the average home mechanic would not. How many hours were spent?

Me too. Just scraping tar could be hours..

I really appreciate these types of videos. I used to mountain bike when I was a kid. But I got out of it. I still own my 06/07 Trek Fuel 70. Its a medium frame. I'm guessing we bought it while I was still expected to grow... turns out, my body decided 5'4 was the best height and I should be on a small frame. I'm slowly getting back into the game. Seeing 1. the prices of these new bikes, and 2. not knowing if I'm really going to go hardcore into this sport again, I appreciate the fact that you are showing the audience that you don't have to have the top of the line equipment to get rolling. Eventually, I'd like to get a bike that fits me better. But I'll ride this until I decide if upgrading is worth it. Thanks for sharing some inspiration!

I would say the time you put into the flip bike is priceless. I have never got a bicycle that is tuned up and ready to use.

would reccommend getting some tar removing car cleaner, works wonders.

Really? I have that same problem on my bike. What brand would you recommend?
@garchompy_15613 жыл бұрын
@@lukepw08 I cant remember any brands in particular, all I remember was using some during a college course about cars. im sure its common enough to find one that works though. im sure the known brands like meguires or autoglym will have them. (I THINK my college used autoglym, but i cant say for sure)

Big fan of your videos! I feel your parts are worth much more. A 10 speed cassette with that rear derailleur is closer to $100 used. The saddle is at least $20. You are giving some great deals to people and bringing old bikes new life so that alone is worth it. These older bikes are starting to be similar to classic cars where they are constantly increasing in value.

I used to work in road construction, specifically applying joint sealant. When you get tar on a bike (or car) just apply gojo hand cleaner. Don't use the kind with pumice, it will scratch the paint. Little elbow grease and soft cloth will remove the tar. Lanolin dissolves it. Nicely
