DEAR HOUSEMARQUE, if you ever see this video please take a minute of your time to read this comment! As you can tell this movement technique is very popular but because we don't know if it's an intended mechanic, I'm scared that you might consider nerfing/removing it so here's why I think you shouldn't: In my opinion it's just a great addition to the gameplay that raises the skill ceiling even further and doesn't harm the game experience in any way. It's not breaking the game whatsoever, it just lets players move around faster if (and this is an important point) they invest the time to develop the skills to actually use it efficiently. As it doesn't affect casual players in any way and Returnal is a singleplayer game, I don't see a reason to actually nerf or remove it. That's why, even if it's not intended, I beg you to keep it the way it is - also on behalf of the entire speedrun community, we love this game the way it is and we will gladly spend hundreds of more hours to master the game and show people how awesome it is but nerfing or removing this tech would be devastating to all of us! This movement technique is awesome, I used to play Quake and love Strafe/Bunny Jumping. Thing is, while the movement is great in the game I keep whishing for a bit faster traversal and lo and behold, we now have this super awesome technique and it's so gratifying to do. Please Housemarkque don't remove it and keep it in future sequels as well.

They seemed to have removed the dash you could do after the jump... which leaves you so vulnerable as landing gives you the falling animation from heights... and forces you to just use it as a strait shot. If you dash cooled down you could do a regular dash (total of two technically because the DMJ counts as a dash) after the DMJ for course correction or alignment to a grapple etc... No amount of cooldown on dash as a buff helps this, and I'm pretty pissed... quite personally it takes half the fun out of the game since I'm just leveling up weapons at this point trying to unlock everything. HouseMarque... Please re-enable the second dash... that was still fair, as it takes skill to even pull off, let alone doesn't break anything imo... It's far better than players door scumming kamikaze aerial robots...

They should make their next game from the aimed perspective and mechanics around that... this can also be done while aiming... (only one long DMJ, no additional dash if you do it off a ledge like you could before the last patch) I also thing if they could animate PvP well... this would be an AMAZING MP game... all the mechanics before they took that extra dash out were perfect imo...

I'm very curious about this too, didn't install the update yet as (while I think DMJ is intended as it didn't work in 1.0.0 but started working after a certain patch) I'm scared they - for whatever stupid reason as it's just a great mechanic that raises the skill ceiling further and doesn't harm the game experience in any way - might patch it in some way 😫 New patch version is 1.3.7 btw!

@UprisenGaming I'm also who enjoys finding cancels etc. in fast based games like DOOM/ DOOM Eternal... Something Unfortunate something to know... When doing this off a ledge, before the latest Update Housemarque provided... You were able to do this off a ledge, and as long as your dash recovered in time you were allowed *Only one additional dash... even if you used grapple hooks in betwee etc... That to me seemed fair for someone to get elite in this game and go towards a completionist approach... Now, your stuck in a falling state with the prolonged "taking a knee" animation... and for someone used to this kind of mobility/ agility... it has absolutely taken half the fun out of challenging encounters. I don't know if this is a "fix" or a "glitch" as other bugs I never had statistically speaking has popped up and I just wish i went back to how it was... It would allow course correction, less falling off the edge when you knew you had a dash during the jump. Pretty devastating as i love going through runs, I was getting some great twitchy gameplay... now it's gone and Suit augments that stack, are often not settling on the right percentages... unfortunate.

Wait did something change with DMJ? I don't really get what you're trying to say - DMJs were always wonky when you did them near ledges because sometimes the dash boosts you off the edge so you can't jump since you're already midair and you fall. If that's not what you mean, I don't knos :x

@@UprisenGaming ok... so before the latest patch, I watched your video... and mastered the DMJ. Then i realized if you did it so you were landing on something below the level your DMJ'd (like at the top of a long staircase, toward the bottom) You'd be able to squeeze another dash (just one) once the cooldown was over*before landing.. I have some saved gameplay doing it... But Since the recent patch, you now have to hit the ground after a DMJ even if your cooldown is done... and it's kind of aggravating... So basically you could DMJ, and if still in the air and the dash cooldown was over, you could dash again... now you can't. Easily doable in plenty of the overgrown biome, or the 4th biome with lots of lofty drops etc... It really opened up the movement as you didn't always have to DMJ in one strait line... You'd be about to DMJ off a ledge toward say the middle of an arena, and then change direction and look/dash once more toward a grapple point or ledge...

I see what you mean and that indeed sucks but I just got confirmation that you can still dash to avoid a fall stagger, the cooldown just takes WAY longer than it shows ingame so it COULD potentially be a bug with dash cooldowns - let's just hope they revert it 🤐

@@UprisenGaming i actually opened a ticket on HouseMarque's discord letting them know of some minor issues and asking if this was a choice (the dash) i was then linked to the patch notes where it does say "fixed issue of shortening certain jumps" or something vague... So i asked, so this was a choice? and he/she/they said yes, it was a choice.. lol I'm bummed out

It also works with the default layout but I think it's way harder to build muscle memory; doable tho! :)

@@matjakobs8612 I’m not even saying it to boast, but I cleared the entirety of the 2nd half (Biome 4-6) on my very first ever run of it. This was when the game released, and I don’t think I had any cheats on. I hadn’t even heard of tricks like DMJ until now, so I have a feeling the game wasn’t the majority of your problem.

This s so pathetic the game was not designed for this, and this effect breaks the game and the console, because too many enemies loaded at the same time overloads the console

Devs have confirmed DMJ is in the game on purpose (and that it was waaaay stronger before v1.0 so they decided to nerf it to a spot where it's still useful but not as ridiculously game breaking as it was before release)! Never heard of anyone's console overheating, I doubt there even are enough enemies in the entire game to overheat a PS5... I've been in the speedrunning community since day one and we are the ones who DMJ constantly and try to get through the game as fast as possible so we arguably spawn more enemies faster than regular players and I've never heard of anyone's console or PC overheating, nor have I experienced it myself in hundreds of hours of speedrunning the game 🤔
