I was 3 years old Gayla sang that song live on the radio in Oklahoma City. I was actually there, and later when the record came out, I got it for my birthday. I was born and raised in Oklahoma (in Anadarko) I remember saving my nickles and dimes (I would get 3 dimes a week for allowance. And I would take leaves for neighbors and even shine my brothers and dad's shoes to earn nickles and dimes to help buy Matilda. She was a sweet girl. I even got her autograph. I agree with you Gayla, Oklahoma is wonderful! You look wonderful!!!! It was really special thing to see you are still around celebrating the song and Matilda! God love ya!!!!

If this video was recorded back in 2016 and doing the she was 69 years old last year, she is VERY VERY young-looking that she could pass for even 48 years old! She seems like such a nice, happy lady. I loved the other side of your record 'Are My Ears On Straight' even more than the hippo song, Gayla! I played that record over and over and over back in '56 when I was 6 years old, one long night at my cousin's house while my dad was at the hospital with my mom... one last time. I have kept that song in my heart all these years. It's so very special to me. Thank you for the song that I always called 'I'm A Little Doll Who Was Dropped and Broken.'

First time I heard that song was from one of the guys in our offroad group playing it from his RZR at a Christmas parade this year. Crowd and the kids loved it. This facebook picture is my husband Jerry, When I was a little girl we watched Ed Sullivan religiously.When Gayla came on and sang the hippo song she made such an impression on me that my mom bought me her record.
