This channel is focused on Bones, Hormones, and Healthspan to help midlife women and beyond aim for optimal, not average, and reignite their spark!
The videos on this channel will be focused around helping women navigate healthspan and longevity through the lens of osteoporosis, perimenopause, and menopause. When it comes to osteoporosis and menopause providers and educators often get tunnel vision and your symptoms might get better, but if you don't keep longevity in mind, symptom improvement may come at the expense of heart and brain health.
Subscribe and follow along as Dr. Doug Lucas explores the research and clinical applications surrounding women's health.

HI there. Sorry to hear about your celiac diagnosis. From a bone health perspective once you go gluten free now it’s a matter of healing your gut and getting adequate nutrition in. Then it’s repleting nutrients and optimizing hormones if deficient which they commonly are in celiac patients. That’s the basics. If you haven’t seen our masterclass that could be helpful. Most people have leaky gut, and the main culprit is glyphosate in non organic foods. Glyphosate was originally patented as an antibiotic so it kills the good bacteria in the gut causing disbiosis and eventually leaky gut. Glyphosate is ubiquitous in our conventional farming practices. Food sensitivities are caused by leaky gut which causes whole foods (not broken down because of the disbiosis) to get into the body. The immune system sees these non broken down foods as foreign and creates antibodies to that substance. I eat organic at home and when I go out to eat I use fulvic and humic minerals to bind to the glyphosate.

Last night we went contra dancing, so I was twirling much more than I thought was good for my hips. But, last night I slept beautifully and woke up with no pain whatsoever in my hips! Helpful video, thanks for this detailed information. What i am struggling with is how to utilise your approach living in another country? Would i need to find a local functional/integrative medical practice that will understand your approach so that your expertise could plug into the local medical practitioner? If i could bring this together in practical way, I'd go for it. As you say it is very difficult to achieve systemmic results without a team approach

From orthopedic expertise is it safe to go back to osteogenic loading like Osteostrong. They have advised safe if not fully loading at first. I am scared to much loading on a newly healed fracture. With weights I can go back slowly with weight lifting much smaller initially. I am worried Re squats and deadlifts An6 thoughts please?

Not specific to this video - but I am curious: My initial diagnosis was a Feb 2022 Dexa that showed Lumbar T score of -2.8, Femoral neck -1.7, Femur -.4 and forearm -.6. In Sep 23 I used same Dexa machine and got -2.6, -1.5, -1.3 and -.4 respectively. My endocrinologist and the radiologist both said no change of significance and that it was probably just within the margin or error for the machine...deflating. But your comments seem to indicate this change is decent?

I’m in Ft. Worth as well and have an appt to see a Endocrinology specialist in Arlington on Monday. His reviews are terrible so I’m extremely nervous. I just recently found out I have Osteoporosis. I’m 66 and had a good ENT who ran a test on my right ear because he suspected bone loss. He told me they normally only see that in people on the medications. I already have bone loss in that ear so if this doctor wants to put me on a medication wouldn’t that cause more bone loss? I apologize for being all over the place but there’s so much to take in and not knowing who’s really knowledgeable vs who is not. Sheila, if you have a good doctor would you mind sharing that info with me?

@@hiraijo1582 I agree. I have just departed from the practice of yet another physician. When he learned that I was not on any prescriptions, he said that he'd fix that. I was supposed to book a follow-up within a month of having lab tests. While I agree that my osteoporosis is problematic and I'm not sure of the best approach, I am confident he was also interested in other "conditions" for which he could prescribe pharmaceuticals.
