Bokke performance was what i would have expected considering it's a transitional time and whilst they dominated in most areas they didn't run away with the game. Portugal deserve a lot of credit and obviously for the first 15 mins of the game they hadn't got the memo they were supposed to be the underdog. Their discipline was great considering the pressure they were under and they just concentrated on playing their style of retro wide running game which is a pleasure to watch. Good game for both teams and the spectators.

But what I'm saying is I thought the two incidents were vastly different, with the same sanction, and hopefully we'll eventually get some clarity from World Rugby regarding these sanctions and how they call them. We're well versed now in the head contact protocol, although there's still some inconsistency there. It seems the only deciding factor for the croc roll is whether or not the offending player lands with weight on the lower limbs, whether its intentional or not. And that's a yellow. So, when does it result in a penalty only, and when is it a red? Or is it blanket yellow card for everything?

The pressure on a fly-half when facing Portugal as opposed to Ireland is like play wrestling your cousin, to stepping into the octagon with Brock Lesnar. There is no greater attribute in sport than being able to do the business in the clutch moments and Pollard hasn't done it once, or twice, but something like a dozen times. I believe that Rassie A/B tested the back line tactics against Ireland. Game 1 the Carlos Spencer influence was obvious and in game 2 they reverted to the kicking game. Clearly the Spencer plan is still new to the players but they won well. 2nd game the kicking tactics yielded the same result as the RWC group game. Against Portugal we lost a Centre from kick off but were able to run the Spencer lines against weaker opposition so the man down only reflected on the scoreboard. My guess the Bok back line will be hit and miss this season but when it hits they will be bloody hard to beat. By next year if they persist with Spencer the Boks could have forward dominance allied with a running back line with options. That’s an intimidating thought if you are not a Bok supporter. You cannot be sure about the scrum power change between SA and NZ based on this weekend's matches. The Springbok pack was nowhere near the pack that scummed against Ireland. Also, Fiji scrum not at the same level or standard as the SA scrum that played against Ireland.
@Wildkard3 ай бұрын
@@jaygeeist that is true but we will see soon enough the AB scrum has been incredible
@jaygeeist3 ай бұрын
@Wildkard indeed we will see. The Bok scrum against Ireland is a far more accurate measure of where the Bok scrumpower is at present than that of the pack against Portugal. A hybrid selection of the Springbok teams selected in their 4 tests to date this year is likely to be a formidable force. Until now, Rassie has been all about seeing who he has available to him for selection (apart from the 2 Ireland tests - for which he correctly opted to use an unchanged 23, because you don't tinker or tamper with your team against one of the best teams in world rugby). The 2 Wallaby matches are also games in which one shouldn't tamper too much with team selection, unless the coach's mindset is to not be too concerned about winning the Rugby Championship, but rather to continue building squad depth with a view to RWC 2027. Although, having said that, I do believe Rassie is keen to do as well as possible in this year's RC, and preferably win it, so as to lay down a marker, going forward, so I'm anticipating him putting out as strong a matchday 23 as he possibly can, for the 2 games against Australia. There have been a few injuries to some of our key players lately, but several have just been cleared to play again, whilst a few others are set to return to action following injuries suffered several months ago. Without wanting to appear arrogant - Rassie could possibly - this year - select two world-class matchday 23 squads who could compete at the highest level, such is the depth he has available to pick from.

@Wildkard I most certainly hope that he won't experiment against the Wallabies. SA Rugby & the Springboks have the utmost respect for our traditional Rugby Championship opponents - the Wallabies, the All Blacks, AND the Pumas. I'm sure that the Bok coaching staff will ensure that all three those opponents are treated with huge respect by the world champions. Besides, the Boks will no doubt be looking to improve their not-so-impressive record in Australia. And let's face it - Joe Schmidt is an excellent coach. Be sure that the Springboks will treat their two matches in Australia with the highest level of seriousness. They are under no illusions that a tough task awaits them and they're also determined to drastically improve their win ratio between World Cups. Lots of stalwarts who were injured since the RWC are set to return to the Bok squad for the upcoming Rugby Championship. So, be assured, there will be NO underestimating the Wallabies next month.

it was a massive tackle which knocked him out, definitely not head contact - pathetic call by TMO. The yellow card for KL Arendse was a "croc" roll tackle so definitely pen but he did NOT land on the guy's leg....that was a shocking call (arendse actually adjusts his hold and lets go of the guy's leg when he tried to roll him - very soft). Quan Horn was poor technique - got himself in a poor position - not malevolent). TMO looked to get as many Boks carded as he could - for me! (dirty Scot's bastard) The ref on the whole was good - heavily influenced by TMO and missed a few skew throws, especially by Portugal. The Porras were very entertaining to watch! Good game in the end, result was never in doubt. Boks played with 14 men and sometimes 13 men for virtually the entire game.

Wildcard's beef was with the landing on knee from nr8 - this game Kurt Lee did actually not have ANY weight on a knee at all, moved his body away to avoid the leg and ended up touching the Portuguese FOOT during the entire 'crocroll' - could see theres a massive difference between last week and this week. Having said that, fair to send KLA off from field. Laws is clear and happy for the ref to make a judgement call to punish South Africa. The "disgrace" aspect you mention are when it seems a team (TWO players actually) target coincidentally the only injured knee on the field. 30 knees to choose from and landing on the only knee recovered from an 8 month injury. Suspect.

@@jle42 I agree there was a massive difference, last week player two (Ryan) came in late and pushed player one (Doris) onto Marx which was agreed by the refereeing team to be mitigation. It's so refreshing to see the backline flow with Manie and Sacha I think Pollard is finished. We were known as a team that doesn't score tries and its all because of Pollard.
@randomlyfactual19433 ай бұрын
Do you know much about rugby? Like, do you know how to run plays? Pollard plays the way he does because it fits into the gameplan. Our gameplan coming into both world cups were very conservative because in 2019 we had a dismal few years before and in 2023 we lost almost two years due to COVID. The safest plan was to play percentage rugby and then dominate with our forwards. This means hit them hard in the contact, Faf cleans out, repeat 3 phases and then Faf does a box kick. It's not pretty, but it's effective and it doesn't require your backline to get out of defensive formations. How do you want Pollard to attack the gain line when he hardly ever got any ball, as per the plan? How do you want Pollard to attack when our entire midfield was set up to make big hits in contact?
