Reminder that Bawk loved RE3 remake when he first played it, and only decided he didn't like it later on. These reviews, in much the same way, are basically first impressions after playing through the game in a whirlwind short span of time. I also loved RE3remake when I first played it. There's a lot of good stuff there, the story, music, and characters are fantastic. It's easy to get caught up loving that stuff before you get to later playthroughs of the game and start focusing more on gameplay and pacing issues.

Of course RE4 got great reviews. It starred basically everyone's favorite character Leon, completely changed up the enemies making them scarier (chainsaw maniac), added great postgame content, the mercenaries. Still doesn't surprise me this was the first survival horror game to win GOTY

I think the one thing people are missing with the RE2 and 3 Gamecube ports was that they were $40 on release. At a time where you could still reliably get the PS1 and even the DC ports for much cheaper. It was a complete ripoff.

Re2 on n64 was the 1st Resident Evil I played as well. I played it nonstop and loved it. It wasn't until I got a ps2 that was able to go back and play the other early games.

I think the only major flaw of REmake is that once you beat the game twice, the bomb zombie can spawn randomly anywhere with no way to turn it off. And the biggest flaw of REmake remastered is the fact that you still can't turn that off. I manage to blow myself up in every single playthrough after that 2nd one. Either I can enjoy all of the costumes alongside dying thanks to the bomb zombie, or am forced to stick with a file where I haven't beaten the game more than once.

@@PeppyZeb Nah, the exploding zombie mode will activate automatically after beating the game with both Chris and Jill on normal (or harder). Easy doesn't count. I think he disappears after you leave the mansion for the 1st time, but... if you're playing the randomizer it's a bit different.

Another way is to beat the game twice with each character on separate save files. Say, beat it twice with Jill, then start a new game and do the same with Chris. You'll have two costumes for each character without Mr. Kaboom.

Re5 is absolutely amazing as a co op experience. Its the game that I got my wife to play and we've beat it on every difficulty and two different consoles. I hated the game when I first got it and was only playing solo. The AI is poopy diapers and impossible to beat on higher difficulties. Its a super refined re4 with awesome co op.

I like singleplayer because I dont really care about dying so when sheva does something retarded i will just sit back and laugh. I have realized that every time I do a new playthrough, shevas ai changes. Some playthroughs she is not as stupid.

When I played through RE0 the first time I would use an herb just to clear space to realize theres hardly enough herbs in the entire game and needed to start over. Just everything works against each other and messes you up. If they had an item box it would turn that mess into a much greater game.

Resident Evil 6 is my favorite and least favorite at the same time. When it's at its height, it's soaring, when it's at its lowest, it's hot garbage at the center of Earth. I tried to S-rank all campaigns all difficulty levels but (while the game for the most part isn't really difficult) some sections were just designed to spam kill you over and over again no matter how skilled you think you are.

RE2 (original), RE1 Remake, Silent Hill 2. Top 3 survival horror games of all time. Dead Space 1 is #4 and Alien Isolation is #5; closely followed by Outlast 1, RE3 (original), Dead Space 2, RE4 and Amnesia: Dark Descent. Those are my top 10 imo. Honourable mentions: RE:CV, Darkwood , Silent Hill 1 and RE2 Remake.

also: Revelations 1 & 2 were not good, RE5 was fun, especially with coop and 6 sucked tbh. 7 an 8 are great even though I think 8 ws too short. Survivor 1 was fun at the time, never played Survivor 2 as it seemed like an RE:CV gimmick to me, Dead Aim was ok at time but every time I tried to go back to it, it got worse and worse. RE: Gaiden is a hidden gem if you take it as it is and not canon at all.

The thing about the RE4 Wii version not pushing the graphics is a bit silly. They Wii was only like 25% more powerful than a Gamecube. The controls were the thing that made the difference on the Wii for most things, for good or bad.

i played many of the re games and while i do love some of em (i especially love old re2 and re3) the scoring feels a bit too high on some of em in my opinion. a 9.0 for example shouldnt be given to a game cause did good, but because it did it extremely well.

I've been watching the shit out of story playthroughs lately Bawk, they've really helped me deal lately. Just wanted to say thanks. Personally, RE2 OG will always be the best and most memorable. I have vivid memories as a kid being outside RPD and totally scared shit before going through the front door. And the dogs for some reason really got to me.

It's because they blame RE4 for changing the old school formula that they so want back now. But a lot of people don't really think about the fact that if it wasn't for RE4, RE probably would have died and disappeared. You can even tell in these chronological reviews, most everyone was tired of the RE formula by the time CV came out. RE4 was a necessary step in the franchise continuing. And it just so happened to revolutionize 3rd person shooters at the same time too.

The RE0 reviewer sounded salty like he couldn't get good at it. If Capcom gave the Outbreak files a RE1 style remake, then made it available on all consoles and Steam and allowed for play with people on other systems the way FF14 does Outbreak Remake would be massive for Capcom.

I still think Rev 1 is a better game than Rev 2, I always have. The only thing I like better about 2 is Barry. (duh, I mean it's Barry fuckin Burton) I was just looking the other day on Rev 1 and it said I had 95+ hours on Raid mode, and that was just for the PS4 version lol. Unpopular opinion. Resident Evil 5 is better than Resident Evil 4. 4 was half in the door of horror and half in the door of action. 5 at least went all in with action and improved the game mechanics of 4 ten fold. After playing 5, 4 is just a clunky mess that wasn’t sure what it wanted to be.

Just need to point out that Survival/Horror is a sub genre of Action/Adventure and each SH game falls at different points on the Action-Adventure scale. RE has ALWAYS been more Action than Adventure.

That 9 was definitely a legitimate review. The thing is, the person only played the game one time and was hyped on nostalgia when that score and review was given. Bawk himself said the game was a masterpiece (or something along the lines) when he first finished RE3 remake. It was only on subsequent playthroughs that he (and we all) saw how bad it really was.

Yeah but tbf that’s kinda how people played it even it came out, you gotta keep in mind that when it came out it defined its genre so there weren’t many games that played like it and that put you in tense situations. I was a kid when it first came out and I had tons of issues keeping ammo on hand. Of course now that’s not an issue for me as I can plan the game blindfolded but that was my initial experience with the game

The Survival aspect mostly came from the smarter enemies. The fact that they would dodge bullets and coordinate a little bit to swarm you was TERRIFYING back then. These things are pretty standard now, but RE4 was one of the first (if not the first) to utilize AI like that in a "horror" game.

I've been playing since the early disaster they called RE1 before we got the Director's Cut in 96. I personally like every title to greater or lesser degrees with exception of Umbrella Core and Dead Aim. RE6 and RE3 Remake were both better than RE7 in my opinion. I follow the ongoing story of the series, something RE7 didn't have. Plus when the antagonist is a WAY better character than your protagonist that's not a good thing.

There is more than 1 type of both horror and survival. RE6 gave players the 4 most common types of those. I personally loved RE6. But then I thought RE7 wasn't a real RE game that they simply slapped the tag on it last minute to appease fans bitching that the wanted 7. In saying that I still enjoyed 7, particularly early in the game dealing with Jack. In my opinion he made the game the way Nemmy made 3OG and 3R. Difference being is Jill is a great character and Ethan is a boring, emotionless waste of protagonist space.
