From playing the updated version of the game on Apple Arcade and playing the original Oregon trail on my own I learned the secret, get at least 1000 lb of food (hunt at each stop or hunt spot if it’s the new Apple Arcade edition) and set rations to meager and the pace to gruelling with taking a 5 day rest at every stop. If they get sick or hurt turn the pace to the slowest and the rations the highest going up on pace and lowering rations by one each two days until you get back to the lowest ration and the fastest pace. Resting 7 days instead of 5 if you get to any stop while anyone is sick or hurt. While he did reach Oregon on attempt number 2, it was super rough.

This game theme reminds me of one that I think was on the official National Park website back in 2012 where you drive a steam locomotive. Like you made an "account" to become a "junior park ranger" on the website and then there were different games you played to get badges, it was a lot of fun, I don't know if they still have it or not.

When I was in 6th grade my class went on a field trip to a camp in the mountains for a week and we played this game in real life while we hiked up to the top. We had been looking forward to it for over a year since we played it once every week in history class the year prior and all loved it, and then it started to rain, like an insane amount of rain. All of our food got ruined, there was only one bathroom with a shit ton of black widows in it so that wasn't an option, and we had to "live like they did" for 4 hours "hunting" squirrels, making candles, blacksmithing, and making apple cider outside from scratch as it rained to the point where it was almost flooding. We didn't know it was gunna rain, so none of us were dressed for it. Hiking back down was probably one of the most painful experiences ever bro since my feet where basically frozen lmao. Almost half the class got sick afterward. Safe to say this game doesn't bring back pleasant memories💀
