People ripping on Mark saying he's not a good bass player: True he's no Flea or Victor Wooten, but he is a good singer/song writer. He also just knows music and has been a producer for other bands. He's such a nice guy and promotes up and coming bands. Plus he is very entertaining live, if his bass lines were too difficult he wouldn't be able to dance around, play, and sing at the same time :)

That inverted split is genius. Yes, that should be the standard split coil layout. It really does even everything out.
@zackyallen27132 жыл бұрын
Jackson and Charvel did that a lot in the 80's . I think Lee Sklar and Don Carruthers did it around the end of the 70's when Lee had his parts bass made. Truly is how that layout should work. It's genius. But there is perks to the original setup.
@TinoR6267 ай бұрын
The funny part here is that they didn't move the top pickup. It's in the same spot. All they did was pull the bottom pickup close to the neck. This would do nothing to take the woffie out of his e string. If they did a proper swap the pickup would be at the rear of the pick guard.
@nomoredeathstars4456 ай бұрын
@@TinoR626it’s also not a 1-for-1 comparison either, because the pickups on a Hoppus bass aren’t technically in the “sweet spot” like a normal P. I can’t speak for his Jaguars, but I know that on the jazz bass version of the Hoppus bass, the whole pickup is slightly closer to the neck to prevent it from sitting too close to the edge of the pickguard.

@mooneyes11143 жыл бұрын
Yeah not a bad idea. I use a different method to accomplish that and it definitely helps when I record in the studio. I won't get tracks that pop because the frequency is too high. I put light gauge strings for my E and A strings and then thicker gauges on the D and G. Works fantastically. I also use a compressor to help smooth it out some. On my fender aerodyne I lowered the pickup that is placed for the E and A strings as well. I utilize all my strings when playing bass and the D and G string sometimes are too quiet, since I play fingers. I have a Spector but it's a diff pickup config than this.

What Mark says about people not inverting the P-bass pickups before is not true. Yamaha has been doing just that since the seventies. Also, Fender did a Rocco Prestia signature bass which had the P-bass pickup inverted for the same reason he mentions.
