Example: Spock, the emotionless character, falls in love with you. Another example: Rey using an advanced jedi mind trick. Most of the time, if you are an original character in an original cannon, you are not a Mary Sue. Yes, even Harry Potter is sue-less.

Luke's first duel: Gets his hand chopped off and losses his lightsaber (keep in mind he had some training at this point) Rey's first duel: Nearly kills the villain with no proper training We aren't mad because of the character's gender, we are mad because of the character's writing. Edit: To put all of the arguing to rest I’m just gonna say: 1. That fight was Rey’s first time using a lightsaber, she should not have been capable of using it as well as someone who was trained. 2. Dark side users feed off of anger and pain, his injury from the bow caster would have made him more powerful. 3. Even if he wasn’t more powerful because of his injury he should still be able to best Rey in lightsaber combat because it’s her first time using one. The fact Rey won is just bad writing.
@Doctor.Trolling5 жыл бұрын
@@fatone0 I still think Kylo should have easily one, a lightsaber needs a high amount of skill to be used effectively even for someone who's used aoher types of melee weapons, it seems kinda stupid that Finn someone who at least used a lightsaber for a short amount of time did worse than Rey in the final battle of the movie, I don't think her experience with her staff would've allowed her to do that good with a lightsaber, it's kinda like comparing a staff with a sword but the sword has basically no weight to it other than it's hilt. And Luke was at a MUCH higher skill level than Rey, he had hours of training on dagobah when Rey had no practice with an actual lightsaber at all until TLJ.
@Doctor.Trolling5 жыл бұрын
@@fatone0 Even if he was shot with the bowcaster I still think he should've won, he's basically the equivalent of a Jedi knight and Rey would basically be a youngling, she shouldn't of even been able to use the force to the extent she did in the interrogation scene nor be able to grab Anakin's lightsaber while Kylo was also trying to grab it, she may of had training with a melee weapon but she didn't even know she was a force user until she grabbed the lightsaber, which she shouldn't have been able to do if Kylo was also trying to get it. But I think since she was able to grab it somehow that Kylo wouldn't of put up as much a fight as normal since he got hit with the bowcaster.

Still highly emotional, arrogant, impulsive, and short-tempered, still lost his hand to Count Dooku and still lost to Obi-Wan after he succumbed to the dark side and slaughtered younglings. Rey had the force for, like, 3 days, and she was already using Jedi mind tricks, lifting dozens of boulders all at once, besting Luke Skywalker and the grandson of Darth Vader in fights with ease, piloting and repairing ships better than their actual pilots or technicians, and taking on a group of specially trained royal guards with ease. And don't even get me started on half the things she was doing in Rise Of Skywalker.
@blainetate7432 жыл бұрын
Ironically, Rey Palpatine has more in common with Sith Lords than Jedi: emotional, constantly angry in a fight, impulsive, arrogant (calling herself a Skywalker), and even attacked Ben when he wasn’t attacking back; with his own weapon I think! She even uses blasters casually, something Kenobi only used on General Grievous as a last resort! If she really is the future for Jedi everywhere, then they might as well go extinct, and *stay* extinct under her dystopian order. Anakin, yes, was a representation of the Force itself, but needed years of training just to unlock a fraction of his potential. Yet this worse-than-nobody on a desert planet could do complex tricks on her first try and effectively nullify Darth Vader’s redemption?!

I also loved how people tried to use Anakin and Luke to defend her by calling them Gary-Stu's. Throughout the entire trilogy Luke constantly had to rely on the help of others to achieve his goals and still failed: needed Obi-Wan to help him escape Vader and destroy the Death Star, needed Han to save him on Hoth, didn't complete his training with Yoda and got STOMPED by Vader, failed to save Han, and finally needed Leia to save him from nearly dying the *second* time within the same movie. Then in the third movie he gets nearly killed AGAIN and ultimately needs/begs his father to save him. Without his friends he would've got nowhere. Anakin was legit THE most powerful Force-user in the galaxy and stayed eating L's for breakfast. In one movie alone he loses his lightsaber, fails to capture the assassin, fails to follow orders, fails to save his mom after disobeying those orders he failed to follow, fails to keep Padme safe, fails to save Obi-Wan, then gets completely STOMPED by Dooku not once but TWICE (after being the most powerful Force-user in the galaxy and having YEARS of hard Jedi training under his belt). Then he ultimately goes on to get manipulated by Palpatine into betraying and destroying everything he stood for; this dude couldn't even be a Chosen One right and failed at fulfilling his own prophecy. Meanwhile Rey is just Little Miss Perfect. Uses Jedi-mindtrick (which cannonly took Obi-Wan years to learn) after not knowing or believing the Force existed YESTERDAY; has never touched a ship in her entire life and is suddenly a better pilot than pilots who've trained their entire lives (Kid Anakin did the same thing and we hated him for it...but at least the little snot had experience with ships); has never held a lightsaber and beats someone trained by Luke and Palpatine in both the Light and Dark sides of the Force since he was a boy. I could go on, but there's no point. Everyone knows she's bad now. Even people who defended her couldn't anymore after Rise of Skywalker.

Thank You. Short & Sweet. I tend to go on. Not sure where everyone's POV is. George Lucas messed with the rules in PT. Covered of the ways of the Force with science, while Disney has the Force as if these powers are from an X-Men movie so we have the completely wrong idea here. In "Twilight" movies the vampires didn't turn to dust in the sunlight but shined like diamonds, which is fine only I read JJ was being asked what NEW powers he was going to be handing out. There have always been limitations on the force users and technology. Reasoned people should have been fine with that and seen a problem when they started coloring wildly outside the margins. Star Wars wasn't so boring that it needed to be super spiced up. Obviously, I could easily have done a better job, and that is not saying much as I could throw a ball into a crowd, finding someone who could do that same. They admit there was no plan at all. Besides repeating, using cliches, they take out a fleet using lightspeed, force ghosts interact with the real-world, freeze blast blots in mid-air, and project ourself across the galaxy? Nonsense. Telekinesis and better reflexes, not Harry Potter. The problem with JJ & Rian & many others who fail to understand it is all those other stories are not Star Wars, as just try to stack the OT with ST. Rey "become WOKE" to the force? Light meeting Darkness. Supposedly in a novel that attempts to explain this garbage done to my childhood favorite, is as Rey's mind is read (not a space magic ability) she turns the tables and reads Ben's mind and learns everything thing he knows in a second. Pure Trash. How does Disney GREEN LIGHT trash and attach millions of dollars behind it? Sure like to READ their minds, yet somehow I might not like what I find.

If it doesn’t make sense for a character to be able to do something, then the task is on the writers to either write a narrative that does make sense for the character or rewrite the character to make sense. Not just say, “here’s what the hero does, here’s a character we slapped together in 30 seconds, bada-bing-bada-boom”

@The Xenomorphian "i remember multiple attempts to rewrite the sequels that were good" I really doubt they were good, as odds are they were written by casuals who know nothing about Star Wars. Let's fact check, shall we? " such as 1. scenes indicating the new republic / a large fucking majority of the galaxy fighting the first order" Except they weren't. The New Republic WASN'T fighting the First Order at all, as they had no military to fight WITH. One of the first things Mon Mothma did when she gained power was disband the military, as after 20 years of the Empire she figured it would be a good idea to NOT have armed forces occupying worlds. Those that thought this was a stupid idea went on to form the Resistance, in case the Empire came back. "and the reason the first order were so desperate to kill the rebels was just to get rid of one less problem to deal with aside from the major one" The reason the First Order was so desperate to get rid of the Resistance was because they were the ONLY obstacle in their way. There was no larger threat. Hell, Starkiller Base more or less wiped out the New Republic as an entity with one shot. "2. Rey being properly trained in between movies in a long time period" Rey was properly trained in between Episode 8 and 9. She spent a year training with Leia and studying the Jedi Texts. "star wars episode IV and V's took actual 10 years and luke still is shit at the force" No, the ENTIRE Original Trilogy spanned 4 years, and Luke was a Jedi Knight at the end of it, despite having a few hours of training with Obi Wan and a few days with Yoda. Meanwhile, Rey trained for an entire year AND had the texts and wasn't even a Jedi Knight at the end, despite having several times more training than Luke had. "3. Rey getting beaten a couple times which adds motivation for both her and the audience to see the villain get his ass kicked" Rey was never a physical hero like Luke, she was a mental hero like Anakin. Throughout the trilogy her greatest obstacle was always herself. The first movie had her face down her cowardess and sefishness. The second saw her tackle her overconfidence. And finally, she had to get over the mental blocks that kept her from properly using the Force in the third. "don't get me wrong seeing rey beat kylo ren (because at the time before we all realised the sjw shit that was going on at the time kylo was hated for being wimpy looking) was satisfying but wouldn't it be more satisfying if say Kylo chopped her fucking hand off" Actually, the reason Kylo was hated was because he was a parody of all the Star Wars fans who were huge Empire groupies who thought Darth Vader was a badass. And if you notice, aside from the first fight, where she didn't beat him so much as finish the fight Chewie and Finn started, Rey NEVER beat Kylo one-on-one. The fight was always a draw, unless someone intervened on Rey's behalf. So, no. None of those were good.

@@nguyenten6877 ""When not helping his uncle, Skywalker would occasionally go bulls-eye womp rats"" The problem here isn't that the shot was made, it was that luke SPECIFICALLY had to use the Force to make it. Poe actually makes a more difficut version of that shot several times in The Force Awakens, when he snipes moving stormtroopers (that are less than 2 meters tall) with his X-Wing while moving at high speed. And I do mean SNIPE, as in using single shots for each. As someone who played a lot of the origina Battlefront on Xbox, that is tricky to do. And the problem is, again, Luke used the Force to make the shot. They COULD have had Luke make the shot with the targetting computer, or had him dead-eye the thing, while having Obi Wan say "Use the Force Luke" when Vader had him cked, using the Force to weave away from his shots and NOT crash into the sides...especially since this is the one use of the Force he WAS taught to do by Obi Wan AND he did it in Canon in the X-Wing Simulator before the Battle of Yavin (The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy). ""Telekinesis, abbreviated TK,was a neutral ability that most Force-sensitives had " Most did, yes, but it wasn't a NATURAL ability. And not one Luke KNEW was possible. The point is, without a master, he figured it out, and Yoda honed it. People go on and on about how Rey picks up powers by sharing Kylo's abilities in the Dyad, while ignoring that Luke literally bullshits his powers into existence. All we would need is a scene where Obi Wan was giving Luke the tail end of a lecture explaining the sorts of things he could do with the Force, but we didn't even get that. ""Luke is declared a Jedi Master despite not even having a year's worth of training between two Masters: Fair play" This was literally a fuck up on my part. I meant to say 'declared a Jedi Knight'. As I haven't gotten completely caught up on the 'between Episode and 7' stuff, I don't know WHAT advances Luke made between then to attain Mastery, and don't want to speculate on that. I was supposed to say 'Knight' there, and had to go back to check that I typed 'Master'. So yeah, that was a verbal fuck up on my part, and I'll accept the blame for that one. As for what you said... "Skywalker would go on to take on the responsibilities of a Jedi Master by teaching his nephew. However, he was merely playing the role of Jedi Master"" He had other students, but that seems a fair enough point, and I won't try to dispute it. That's an idea that completely slipped under my radar, so thanks for adding that to my knowledge pool. "her only combat knowledge being with a staff which said weapon is based on pure blunt trauma and combat knowledge consisting of wildly flailing at her target until they fall down*" Please point to the Canon source that says she only knew how to fight with staffs. Also, staff fighting has been compared to lightsaber fighting as a closer analogue than normal sword fighting would be with how the weapon was handled. But even without that, this is someone who spent their childhood learning how to defend themself in melee combat against opponents who were actualy trying to hurt her, as opposed to someone who picked it up later in life. And as I say in the next part, there are limits to what pain can do for you, and the Dyad means Rey and Kylo are pulling from the same power source and knowledge pool, the difference is, in this fight Rey is heathy and Kylo is not, which is why she has the edge. You'll notice every other fight they have is a draw, because they're in similar states of health and pulling from the exact same pool of strength since the Dyad treats them as one person.

Luke had no training. His time with Obi Wan was basically an orientation after a job interview, touring the workspace and saying what everything does without explaining any of it. From that, Luke managed to use the Force in multiple instances, including managing telekinesis despite no one ever telling him it was possible. And when he was training with Yoda, he was never taught anything new, just boosted in things he'd already learned, and he didn't even finish THAT, and then he's a Jedi Knight. Rey on the other hand, had a year of training supplimented with studying the Jedi Texts between 8 and 9.

Luke had more than a couple of years he had some practice in the time between A New Hope and TESB that is why he had very little skill and could just use telekinesis and that is about it his training with yoda was little which is why he lost. I believe 3 years passed which means Luke had a lot more time to learn and a Jedi’s completion of training in some cases is building a lightsaber
@TheKyrix823 жыл бұрын
@@duolightningproductionstud1435 Yes, he had 'practice'. But practice in WHAT? Literally the only thing Obi Wan taught him was how to block blaster bolts with his lightsaber. He also demonstrated that the Mind Trick was a thing. And from that, with no HINT that it existed, Luke figured out telekinesis. 3 years DID pass...between A New Hope and Empire. 3 years with zero training, and just him flailing around trying to reinvent Force Powers that he didn't even know existed. Yoda didn't teach him a single thing he didn't already know, he just clarified things Luke was having trouble with and improved the abilities Luke already had. As for the Lightsaber building, Luke figured that out in Legends by reading a journal Obi Wan had left, and in Canon he figured it out because he received a non-functional purple lightsaber shortly after A New Hope and figured it out by taking it apart...meaning he taught himself how to make a Lightsaber as well. Meanwhile Rey had Kylo's powers from the Dyad, an afternoon of training with Luke, and a solid year of training with Leia while being backed up by the Jedi Texts. And now that Ben Solo is dead, she likely only has her own powers again, so anything she hadn't already learned is gone.

I hate when people say your sexist just because your criticizing a character that is female, it's like the only thing that they care about the character is that she's a female and she supposed to be perfect and better than everyone without the character having to work and earn her power and having any flaws that make us want to see her succeed
@bluedragon84175 жыл бұрын
It always to defend the poorly written characters as well. When they bring out the sexist card as well or so it seems. For when it comes to Rey or Captain marvel. I can easily list a number of characters better than these twos. Emma from a promised neverland, Noelle from black clover. Noelle unlike Rey has to learn how to control her powers. Noelle due to lack of control over her power, is what lead to her becoming the black sheep of her family. She has her time in the spotlight but so do other characters. She is powerful in magic due to being a noble. Which makes sense in context of the setting, for nobles tend to be born gifted when it comes to magic. Rey is powerful for reason? For they don't even use some are born more powerful in the force than others line of logic for Rey. Rey gains the ability to perform the jedi mind trick, after Kylo failed to read her mind? How does that work. I know there is expanded lore that tries to explain it but even that makes no sense. The expanded lore version from what i recall is, somehow she not only stop Kylo from reading her mind but enters his and steals his knowledge of the force. Emma is kind, will put her own health on the line to ensure the safely of others. Is kind of native and far from the smartest character around at the start. She can fail, suffer, be injured, struggle. She overtime grows and learns new skills, becoming smarter. She improves herself. Will go out and save random strangers she knows nothing about and will put her life on the line to do so. Captain Marvel from the mcu. Never has to improve herself. For after switching sides, she never thinks about all the horrors she might of done by working for the bad guys. She never questions anything about herself. You get brainwash and trained by some alien empire for years, find out they are evil. Just switch sides no questions ask. She even blew up a ship of the good aliens while escaping from them. Her powers lack consistency. She can go from being knock out with one shock stick, to tanking three of them no issue. She just becomes more powerful for reasons. Which to explain. She gets knock out with one of these weapons, is taken away and lock up on a ship. She breaks out of the jail and than is attacked with these weapons again. Three of them. She has no time to train or gain a power boost. There is a device you find out later on, that is limiting her power. Which she could of easily have broken at anytime from the way the movie displays how easily that device can be destroy. Yet during this time in the film when she is escaping and attacked by a weapon that should to the knowledge you are given, should be able to knock her out. It doesn't and there is no reason to explain. Was the limiter device failing or something? We don't know. Her one hand blast power, goes from simply being able to blow things up to being able to not only power a engine of a ship but also turn it on and send it flying into space. She has no issue in fighting against her team mates. Even her own commander, who try to get her to fight without her powers. She simply just uses her powers all the time and just mops the floor with him. Proving nothing at all. Which is something that happens in her fights countless times. Anytime it starts to seem like she might be in trouble and need to think her way out of this or do something clever. Nope. She just overpowers them, making any build up to oh no she might be in danger seem pointless. For she always had the power within and was always able to call upon it. Didn't need to overcome self doubt or anything. She is just god. Her character is a wooden plank from a pirate ship. Which that is something the people who are just so willing to throw out sexist don't get. The issue is not them being female. It's the poor writing. It the same issue people had with Kirito. It was not due him being male but the poor writing for his character. If Rey and Captain Marvel were written better like their manga counterparts, {Emma, Noelle] there would be less issues with them. The reason why their eastern counterparts are better written is rather simple. They get treated like everyone else. They need to improve or train to master a skill, struggle and under go challenges and hardships. They are not treated like flawless gods who can do no wrong.

Honestly, Rey isn't a female at all of if you ponder it over. More like a man pretending to be a woman. Rey is certainly built like a boy. Rey's chest is as flat as a pancake. Arms that look like wet noodles. Besides, it's "Do or do not. There is no try" The fact that Rey is female is beside the point, which is humbling that I couldn't stress it and failed to hit the broadside of a barn. But that's the point with Rey as she's little miss perfect. When Finn meets up with Rey he tries to come to her aid. Rey saves herself. Finn grabs hold of her to lead to safety. "LET GO OF MY HAND" she repeats * Rey is captured so Finn lies to everyone so he can save her. * Rey saves herself. The way I understand it from feminists is one the worst tropes of all times is "Damsel in Distress". Rey is clearly written in "GOD MODE" because anything she can't do or any trouble that she can't get out of (they believe) shows a weakness in character when depending on your friends and having your friends back you up and learning from a master that teaches you the skills where you are able to become the master. That is the true path of the hero, but Disney has made a mockery of it. Rey is completely independent. Alone in a wasteland. No aunt or uncle or friends, nothing at all, yet somehow she can protect herself with staff, salvage parts, and fly ships. These abilities were written into her with no explanation. Like when she comes across Luke's lightsaber that was lost with Luke's hand. We ask like with Rey where did it come from. Who is this three-letter marvel that has the power to do anything with no chance of failure, well like how we found Luke's lightsaber that's a story for another day, perhaps we will never answer it because that like using a Mary Sue it is another way to tell a story, by not telling the audience anything at all.

OK, I have an analogy for Ray that basically explains to normal people what is wrong with Rey. Imagine there is this cooking series where chefs train day in and day out to get better at cooking food, something everyone knows you can’t do without training. The first season follows a cooking prodigy grow into a masterful chef, with the next season following his son, who aspires to follow in his footsteps. Both seasons show the struggle of learning how to cook, and that it takes hard work to even make the simplest of dishes. Then, in the third season, this young woman from nowhere, totally unrelated to the main characters of the last two seasons, takes the role of the main character. She has never even stepped foot into a kitchen before, but upon the first time she cooked something, she made a beef Wellington, a highly complicated dish that requires an hour of cooking, flawlessly without looking up a recipe, or even prior experience with kitchen wares. The rest of the season is just her flawlessly making dish after dish without screwing up, totally shitting on the themes of the past two seasons. That is essentially what Rey did to Star Wars but replace chefs with space wizards, cooking with The Force, and the kitchen with the Star Wars galaxy.

“Maybe you don’t have a problem with the movie, but with women.” Is that why there are multiple female characters other than Rey in the Star Wars universe that most people, men AND women, really like? Gee it’s almost as if it’s not her being female that’s the problem. It’s almost like she’s just a poorly written character, and the claims of women hating are just sad attempts to deflect criticism.

I see her point. I mean in ESB he gets ambushed by a creature, his snowspeeder shot down, can't lift his x-wing, and gets his hand cut off (spoilers) in his first light saber fight. He totally is the best at everything the first time he tries anything. In ROJ, he falls into a trap door, gets shot, crashes his speeder, kinda gives into the dark side, does nothing to the Emperor. Vader could have easily used the Force pull to trap him in the carbonite frozening hole. But yeah, when Luke falls down there he magicaly knows how to Force jump. Ironicaly the movie spends two entire scenes to show Yoda teaching him how to lift some stuff, although in the begining of the movie we see him pulling the lightsaber to use against a wampa! He somehow knows how to do a Force pull out of nowhere. Funny thing is Luke never even saw someone using the Force pull. The whole wampa scenes are completly useless. 7:38 Compare Sarah Conner and Kyle Reece in T1, to how much more capable Sarah is in T2. She's way more effective as a soldier against the T-1000 than Reece was the T-800. She had off-screen Years of training and we see her finishing up what we can only assume were the last of her hundred pull ups that day. When she broke out of the asylum, her attempts were thwarted by understandable interference. And what rescued her made sense in the context of the movie. Her brief learning Spanish at the end of T1 is now speaking with friends who have her bunker of weapons. And what's more, Neither Kyle, John, or the Terminator, are emasculated or made fun of to make her look better, yet the movie isn't devoid of humour. The enemy Skynet is still a powerful force that isn't being prank called, and we never see the T-1000 throwing a tantrum. Do you SEE the difference? We wanted the Terminator 2 of Star Wars with Rey. We gave her the chance. We got Luke drinking paint from a tit.

The defining traits of a Mary Sue is that: - The plot bends for them - They have no character - Everyone loves them, unless they're the enemy. - Every thing they do is right, no matter how bad it actually is. - They are better than everyone. Rey possesses almost all of these traits. Even before she trained, she could defeat Kylo Ren, because the plot needed her alive and well. She is a blank slate with no personality, to the point where she doesn't do anything wrong. Everyone loves her, even if they don't say they do outright, it's obvious. Harry is the chosen one, but he isn't the best at everything. He has some things he excels at like Quitich and Defense against the dark arts. Then there are some things he is awful at like occulemeny. He also has some personality flaws like using a spell he didn't know what would do on an opponent or getting impatient with his friends. Tony Stark starts off as a flawed person. He's a greedy narcissist who doesn't care what his weapons are used for. He changes and becomes a hero although he still has some narcissistic personality traits. He always thinks he's right to the point where he divides the team by being too controlling. Neo isn't the most interesting character, but he isn't all powerful off the bat. He fails numerous times. It isn't until he starts believing who he is that he gets powerful and even then he isn't invincible. He actually gets killed. Batman had to train for years to get where he's at. He's still one of the weakest heroes in his universe. He has to use his mind to strategically beat most of his opponents. Even if you wanna say he's too physically and mentally strong he has personality flaws. He doesn't trust easily, he's obsessive, likes isolation among other flaws. Luke had to train to earn his power. Vader pretty much schooled him in Empire because Luke wasn't ready. Vader was toying with him most of the fight. His personality flaw is just like his fathers that he would act without thinking. He took a vision of the future to be 100% true and abandoned his training. Kirk whether it be the old one or new one is flawed. He depends on his crew for almost every mission. Rey hasn't needed anyone for anything yet. In FA she rescued herself out of Starkiller base and defeated Kylo her first time wielding a lightsaber. In TLJ she scolds Luke for giving up on Kylo leaves and rescues everyone. They briefly showed her being upset about her parents, but this wasn't really explored. It didn't cause her to do anything or provide any real temptation to anything bad. I don't call her a Mary Sue, I just call her a poorly written character. I think they can still salvage her character if they handle episode IX correctly.

“You’re Sexist/Misogynistic.” The most Mary Sue/Gary Stu argument since forever.
@samael45504 жыл бұрын
So basically her “argument” is that Luke is a Gary Stu, therefore Rey isn’t a Mary Sue? Or, neither of them are? But then, why is she even comparing Rey to Luke in the first place? She has no clue what she’s talking about.. who let her have a channel? The rest of the vid is literally her dodging the arguments placed forth and just straight up lying (saying Rey trained) lmao.

@annak489723 жыл бұрын
She is bad at expressing her point. She seems to believe that the concept of Mary Sue shouldn't exist because it's created by men to be anti-woman. By calling Luke a Gary Stu, she is trying to say "See, you fanboys okay with it when men do it. Therefore, sexism! " To her, it proves that Mary Sue is a sexist term to put down strong women. Where this fails is that Luke is not really a great example of a Gary Stu, so he's differentiated from Rey (she's like a textbook example). Even excluding the Mary Sue argument, Luke is a more memorable character. He has better writing and that's why people like him. What I truly don't understand is how anyone can defend the godawful writing in the sequels with a straight face. You can argue about the term "Mary Sue" all day, but Rey's characterization is still bad.

There is a difference, but the 2 aren't mutually exclusive. You can have an unlikable character who is also a Mary Sue.
@Dingo-wk5ed4 жыл бұрын
Lonly Wanderer True but while Rey at times is a little too much like a Mary Sue, she still has a personality and charisma. After three movies I can’t tell you shit about the personality or goals of Mac Windu or Padme beyond they are stern or some shit. I just don’t see why she can be unlikable yet people like obnoxious baby Anakin and fucked up horny Anakin that come out of nowhere and isn’t developed properly since it’s such a leap.
@ДаниилЖевнерев-т9ы4 жыл бұрын
@@Dingo-wk5ed of which personality and charisma are you talking about? All Rey's personality is being an ostensibly nice scavenger girl with maybe some loneliness issues and affection seeking. Padme is a well-written character. She has a meaningful motivation to oppose the villain: as a democratic-minded politician she's opposed to the militaristic and authocratic Palpatine and as a representative of Naboo she's opposed to the Trade Federation (which is secretly controlled by Palpatine) for occupuing her home planet. She has meaningful relationships with two other main characters, being a friend to Obi-Wan (who played a crucial role in Naboo conflict) and a love interest to Anakin. She's also a good subversion of "toothless and vegetarian democratic politician" stereotype, being, when needed, a strong and determined leader who's ready to fight for people and causes she feels obliged to protect. She's also just plain badass for fighting on par with her Jedi comrades despite not being Force-sensitive. And her story arc has a good conclusion: since the Prequels were intended as a tragedy, her story ends with her political ideals being shattered as everyone supported the Republic-to-Empire transition, and two people who were her closest friends turning mortal enemies on each other, which leads to her losing the will to live and eventual death. Anakin is also a well-written character. He's screwed up and horny because he's a former slave from a backwater planet who has been inducted as a warrior monk since childhood, but never actually understood the Jedi codex. He struggles between his loyalty to Jedi Order and its philosophy, his love for Padme (which is blatantly immature because he never had any romantic interactions back then) and prospects of a military career in the Republic. He deals with trust issues which eventually alienate him from his former comrades and turn to Palpatine's help. He is shown to be very afraid of not being able to save his loved ones since he can't forgive himself for not being able to save his mother, which eventually leads to his downfall as he falls prey to Sidious' manipulations that lead him into becoming a Sith and taking the Vader persona. His story arc's conclusion takes it all into account since he plays a role in Padme's demise despite being ready to do anything to save her, betrays his Order and steps on his principles despite formerly being a good Jedi and close friend of Obi-Wan, becomes a tortured slave of an uncaring and abusive master despite valuing freedom above else and is set to be the interstellar boogeyman despite wanting to be honored as a war hero.

4:11 - Kirk is a captain with years of training and experience on his side. So Fail there... Luke was a farm boy who got his ass kicked at literally every turn in the first movie, got his hand cut-off in the second movie; hell, the movie has TWO lines mentioning that he has failed. Double Fail. Tony Stark isn't a genius through natural talent - he was raised by one of the smartest and most brilliant inventors of the 20th Century who strove to make sure his son followed in his footsteps and got the best education imaginable; even at the cost of their relationship. And Tony himself - you literally see one of his biggest struggles and failures in the first hour of the movie. He's captured by terrorists, and after all that work to make sure he and Jenson escape together, Jenson reveals his plan was always to sacrifice himself to give Tony a second chance at life. That's really why Tony is so screwed-up with guilt in Civil War over the people who didn't get saved in Sokovia - to him, everyone of them is Jenson; he's still in that cave, unable to save him...So triple fail. Harry Potter is literally the chosen-one by accident - and in name-only. Throughout the novels, Harry is constantly screwing up and NOT being the best at magic, despite being the Arch Enemy of Wizard Hitler. And worse, almost every one of Harry's teachers has been out to get him, with only very few exceptions. Harry failed to save Cedric Diggory when the trap was for him and him alone; Cedric didn't even need to be there, so his death really is Harry's fault. WORSE, Harry gets his OWN Godfather killed! The one moment where Harry was absolutely certain he was doing the right thing to save Sirrus Black's life, is the action that directly causes the man's death! Harry is NOT a Gary Stu, not even in the movies...Quadruple Fail. The only one close to being a Gary Stu in this group is Neo because of his initial-Jesus-Metaphor beginnings, but even HE doesn't count as a Mary Sue. For the one thing, despite having all of his martial arts mastery downloaded into his brain, he still fails to defeat Morpheus in a training duel and literally has to break the rules just to lay ONE hit on the man. Then he fails to make the jump. Hell, he has to DIE to get his powers. And more than that, when it comes between the choice of saving the human race and saving ONE woman's life...Neo screws his entire species just to save his screw! That's a Major Failure! The entire purpose of Neo is that he had to FAIL to succeed; the fact that Smith had grown so far out of control that the only way was to sacrifice Neo in order to stop him, completes the Jesus Metaphor. Sorry but someone who has to die to win is by definition NOT a Gary Stu. Quintuple Fail... And...Batman...the guy who is a trained forensic investigator, flew all around the world to train from various forms of martial arts to become a Ninja, and who constantly fails all the time - especially when it comes to saving people, which is his ONE goal...Yeah...Sextuplet Fail... That's an F on her report-card.

GanonGhidorah GanonGhidorah this literally also proves she’s right as well. Yea everyone u listed had flaws sure, but they still were never in any real danger despite everything that’s happening to them. Most of the shit that is happening to those characters should have killed most of them in there first movie. Kirk is experienced sure but not on every uncharted planet they venture to and certainly not up against every technological alien threat they encounter that is usually more advanced than enterprise and yet he survives each time except of course the side characters, bc someone has to die for realism sake in a battle...so no not really a fail more like luck from the writers to keep the main character alive lol Luke was a bratty farm boy who was suddenly strong with the force...and honestly the force is nothing special but telekinesis and telepathy and a revival technique as of now lmao...anyway he manages to use the force to retrieve his light saber bc obi wan gave him a little telepathic inspiration to believe and it was that simple. He survived the weird garbage pit with the fucking squid thing in it from pure luck and timing of C3P0 and R2D2. He managed to destroy the Death Star with a 1 in a million shot. It’s mentioned multiple times it’s a difficult shot to make and he’s never even been in a space battle before and still pulls it off. Vader was even about to kill Luke in that scene but as luck would have it from the writers he’s saved just in time by Han Solo, and all this is in the first movie before his training even began lmao 😂 and even after losing a hand and only being half trained he still beats Vader, he still somehow manages to survive the dozens of storm troopers firing at him left and right even though they are literally trained soldiers in every movie. Harry Potter is not only chosen in name he was part of a prophecy as well as Neville but Voldemort saw Harry as stronger. Harry didn’t know anything about magic until Hagrid arrived when he was 11 since then he’s been doing magic better than anyone else at Hogwarts. He best at Quidditch being the youngest seeker in a century Ron even said first years never make the house team. He made a full patronus with little training with Lupin. He managed to survive several dementor attacks without ever getting his damn soul sucked clean out. He’s always up against adult death eaters which I’m sure have way much more experience than Harry and his friends and yet they somehow escape every time. Voldemort could have killed him in the graveyard after murdering Cedric and yet he does his bad guy monologue to give him a chance to escape...once again it’s called luck from the writers. He even faces a goddamn dragon at 14 and survived with no experience with dragons at all. Neo had never used his body physically for at least 20 years and within a few weeks tops he new how to walk despite basically being in incubation his entire life. He managed to defeat smith in the first movie bc all he had to do was Believe...Morpheus even says it. He lost his eyesight in revolution and was still able to see and then he developed super fucking powers. The architect could have cared less which door neo went through the machines despised humans and were gonna wipe them out either way. Plus neo was never dead he could still see after defeating smith in the end. They show you the scene from his point of view as he’s being dragged away by the machines. As for Batman he goes up against some pretty super powerful villains and still manages to beat them bc of his so called iron will lmao 😂 That heavy ass bat suit alone should make speed and agility harder to defend ones self. He had his fucking spine broken by Bane and he recovered within a few weeks after a make shift blind prison “doctor” pushed his spine back in place and forced him to stand in a make shift baby door jumper lmao😂😂😂 Tony stark was adopted by Howard and his wife in the comics and never really had a healthy relationship with tony either. Tony basically followed in Howard’s footsteps to make him proud which is why he’s an arrogant asshole when we’re introduced to him. However before u go thinking I’m making your point tony literally should have died when his own weapon exploded basically in his face. He was pretty close and it knocked him out. There’s no telling how long he was there with that shrapnel in his chest, until the terrorist found him and got him back to their hide out to then save him. Sorry but no he should be dead. Also he got over yensin pretty quick by the second movie he was back to his assholish arrogant self until he found out he was dying from his own reactor. Whiplash should have killed him at the nascar scenes but of course he’s saved by Happy by bringing his suit-case lmao. After the events of the second movie the government should have literally by law removed his suite from his possession bc it would have looked as tho Tony endorsed the machines that whiplash made go crazy. Tony would have been in jail at least until they sorted everything out. And he should have died many times in iron man 3 plus in avengers as he flew the missile into the portal, he was in space...his fucking suite should have frozen along with him. In the first iron man he didn’t even get out of earths orbit before his suit started to freeze...and even if he did fix the problem I have a hard time believing his suite could withstand outer fucking space...and of course he manages to fall back out of the portal just before it closes up...LUCK! From the writers. Trust me just bc these characters are original which is why many people don’t wanna call them Gary Stus they’re still Gary Stus. All of these characters should be fucking dead. If all your looking for is emotional realism to cancel out them being Gary Stus go ahead, but that doesn’t make their amazing ability to avoid certain death realistic at all. They’re all amazingly good at something even with a little training bc u guys just must have the training montage to make them un Gary Stuable lmao but they still fit the Gary Stu title. Everyone likes all of them even when they’re assholes to people unless of course we need a team up that makes conflict more drawn out and dramatic cough cough avengers and civil war. They’re all chosen or have some sort of specific ability that sets them apart from everyone else. Almost all main fiction characters are Mary/Gary Sues. And like it or not Rey had emotional conflict, she did struggle...was it like the characters listed no but she did have her internal struggles she did have you guys stupid ass training sessions u like so much. She even found out she is the granddaughter of fucking palapatine the reason for all the problems in Star Wars lmao thats gotta be a lot deal with and it shows, people are just wanting everything to be so fucking realistic with struggles that they attack on anyone who says otherwise. It’s ok to have Mary Sues, it’s not some feminists agenda why would feminists have an agenda they want equality for all. Misandrists have agendas absolutely...they’re the ones who hate me and I don’t see why Hollywood would try to appeal to a hate group. That’s like saying slave movies appeal to white supremacists. You guys need to calm down at the end of the day it’s just a movie. This girl made some good points and no one is wrong they’re Gary Stus for sure that just have a few flaws to make them more relatable
