The biggest advantage that a 'slip bobber' rig has over a 'fixed bobber' rig is the slip bobber rig is easier to accurately cast than the fixed bobber rig especially if you have the bobber depth set to fish deeper than say 3 to 4 feet. Bobber fishing with minnows for crappie allows you stand a distance away from the area where the fish may be gathered-up and not spook them away. A Bobber rig is my favorite way to fish for crappie. Great video Richard!

The Power of Sli😅p Corks is 1. Cast Abilities for Deep Fishing. Short Rig hanging that can be accurately Casted and Dropped Deep. 2 Adjustability. The Trick is Fishing 25 Ft. With an easy Cast. Up Top you can Adjust a Standard Cork to about 3 ft. and still cast. Slips are for Deep Fish that Require a Long Accurate Cast at Specific Spot..

I'm going to pick your brain a minute. I'm looking for education. I use the rubber stops that come on a wire. Put the line through the wire, and pull the stop onto the line. Easy enough. But, after I set a depth with the rubber stopper and cast the line, the stop moves further up the line as it comes through the eyelets. Any suggestions? Are the string knot stoppers better? Thank you in advance.

I just use a rubber band. Like a Pony Tail Tie. Cut it. Tie one overhand knot very tightly. Spit on it. Tie another overhand on top tightly. Clip off the ends tightly. To adjust. Spit on it and slide slowly. It will real up into an open face reel. Then you can cast. I've never used anything else.

Hey brother. You ever use a lighter and heat up the bend in your hook so it will straighten out easier.
@russellstewart5414
@russellstewart5414 7 ай бұрын
Stop giving away your secrets! I always do that, I’ll just take a little temper out of the hook with a propane torch on the bend area only , not cherry red but reddish and it makes that Aberdeen hook really soft and it can straighten out several times before it finally breaks. Some people worry about losing big fish but a 21 in smallmouth bass and several channel cats and dozens of big crappies on the same hook is good enough for me

Slip bobbers are a blast. I use them for grouper in the gulf of Mexico. Just with 80lb test, 1.5 oz of lead a big hook and a 6" float. It allows you to suspend a large pinfish a couple feet over the bottom be it rock or seafans. Just let it drift back with the tide, works awesome.

I usually have that problem in the warm water in the summer. The minnows he’s using are called creek chubs. They prefer colder water. When you buy them, they are in cold water at the bait shops. But if I try to use them in the summer once the water starts getting into the 80’s they die almost as soon as they hit the water. I don’t fish year round like this guy does and other people do. I usually fish early fall, early spring then once Memorial Day weekend hits and it starts getting real hot out I hang it up until the fall. Can’t stand being out there in real hot or real cold weather on a lake and not catch anything. I don’t know how they do it. 😞

I've only used minners once or twice in my life,a buddy will buy the things every time he/we go. I've out fished him I think every time using jigs tipped with a 1/4-1/2" piece of NC or some small 1- 1.5- sometimes 2" crank/jerk baits. Saved a lot of $ not wasting it on minners. Another month and I'll be back out catching up here in the ol Commiewealth of PA.

Just curious, Richard, I use barrel weights that slide up and down my line. What's your reasoning behind using the clamp on weights? Guessing it's to allow the minnow to move around more freely? And what lb test do you use to tie your uni knot? My dad used 10-12 lb trout line. Not a fan of the pre tied knots or stoppers either. Another awesome video, big fan! Roll Tide!
@mcleodautomation
@mcleodautomation 7 ай бұрын
Richard, I've noticed when using bobber stops, or even a double uni for a leader, I tend to mess up my casts when that connection goes through the eyelets. Do you have the same issue, and do you just compensate with your casts? I'm not using thick line and my uni knots are pretty tight so I think it's a skill issue.

Another amazing video, Richard! I've been a subscriber for quite a while, and I really enjoy your videos. Health issues have made it difficult for me to do much fishing in recent years and I really miss it, so I fish vicariously through your videos, and I thank you for that. But I'd like to offer some advice based on my experience with big Crappies: those huge slabs like the ones you're catching in this video are the breeders that produce a LOT of eggs, they're your breeding stock. If everyone keeps significant numbers of them, you'll see the Crappie numbers quickly start to drop. I've personally seen that happen, and it's a very sad thing to witness. John D.
