So I'm thinking of a project car. 2,200 to 2,300 lbs. road sports car. I'm looking for 400 to 500 horse power at around 7,000 RPM. Keep the torque somewhat low. Say under 400. I would drive this on the street with occasional road race track days. What I have in mind is a 5.3 all aluminum LS. I found an LM7 with 862 heads that looks interesting. Questions: Can the stock 862 heads support the above power? Without porting and intake valve size increase? I am wanting to install some kind of down draft manifold (such as a Holley EFI LS Intake Manifold with an elbow) in order to fit the engine in the car without butchering the bodywork. Any suggestions for cam and what manifold would be very welcome.

@@richardholdener1727 So I would be looking at porting and passably 2 inch intake valves on the 862 heads, with intake manifold upgrades to get to say 450 HP at around 7,000 rpm. Maybe a throttle body upgrade as well? There seems to be so much You Tube info on much higher HP. But little on milder more street oriented builds. I'm thinking crazy torque isn't needed with a car that weighs 2,200 lbs. Plus torque is what breaks transmissions. I am building for a Porsche Boxster S Trans

Richard I love your videos, but almost nobody is putting a N/A 4.8 into anything to just drive around! I agree 100% that if you were to just drive it around N/A the dual plane would be the right choice! But most people watching your channel are usually trying to figure out how to put a street race vehicle together, like they see all over KZbin! Almost all of those vehicles are leaving off a trans brake & 4500 & running them to 7000+++! They are always traction limited! So they don’t care 🤷🏼 at all about what it makes on the bottom! I’ve even seen those awesome gigantic MAST & CID intakes on 4.8s & 5.3s! Or the cheapie big fabricated intakes! Guess what! Those are the guys who normally win on the street! It’s very rarely the guy with the sleeved L/S w a 4in stroke & 427 cubes & a fast manifold! I don’t want to argue, I’ve known for along time the better the N/A engine runs, the better they will be on boost! But unless the car is just going to be putted around N/A! I don’t believe anyone really cares about dual plain intakes 🙄🙄🙄🙄! I honestly think it’s been beaten like a dead ☠️ horse 🐎 over the last 20+ years! If they don’t know by now 🙄🙄🙄🙄! They will never ever get it 😂😂😂😂! I’m sure there are tons of street races out in your state! Maybe try to go & see what these guys do, especially with the smaller L/Ses! Thanks again for doing all the testing we all wish we had the time to do 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻!

What exactly makes the split manifold perform so much better then the vic jr manifold i thought the split design was just to make access for porting, also would there ever be any issue with boost leaks on the split design even with the gasket. Im conflicting on what to use on a boosted 402 peak power around 7000-7500 rpm.
@hoost30562 жыл бұрын
Intake manifolds shape the torque curve. Dual planes have longer runners, and longer runners boost low and midrange power because they resonate ( think of organs making notes ) at lower and middle rpms. This is why matching everything takes work. Cam timing, intake, heads and exhaust is all a system that has to be optimized to achieve your desired results.
@texasstreettunes13102 жыл бұрын
Judging by the dyno and the advertised rpm it seems like it will suit my application the only thing im worried about is boost leaks with it being split.

Seems like 4.8 doesn’t have enough displacement for single plane intake manifolds at all. Lesson here is don’t use a single plane unless you have high compression,heads and huge camshaft to use it. 5.7 would be the lowest cubic inches for a single plane intake in my opinion
