Casey’s commitment to the pursuit of interestingness is by far the best education I received as an aspired video creator. Him being so down to earth is what I appreciate the most when I listen to his story. Great to see him back in NYC.

I’ve watched all of the Rich/Casey convos. Something about this one helped me more. Maybe because I’m exactly like him in the way that I have to work alone and my environment matters so much. It was motivating to hear him talk about “I just need my computer and my camera, and I’ll sit there and edit it alone, and I’ll hit upload, then I’ll close my laptop and go for a run, and maybe I’ll look at the numbers later or tomorrow, and I don’t need praise for my work or validation.” Good reminders. Thank you both.

Convo at around 18:00 reminds me of my employer, a "3PL" - third party logistics provider - that gives customers the freedom to focus on CORE COMPETENCY - the things they do best. Our customer at my location outsources multiple services, from cleaning to security to logistics, because they trust us to do what we do well... so they can devote energy and resources to their products. Tremendous amount of trust extended to us... and we all thrive through robust and honest communication.

I absolutely love Casey. His love for creativity and the art of being genuine. These 2 things are the reason people are so glued to his content. Nothing to do with quality or story arch’s. Being a creative and genuine person is the rare feat that these people like Casey and Joe Rogan have in common and no one ever talks about it.

I’ve been watching Casey’s interviews over the past week so it feels very serendipitous that this one dropped now. I was so excited to see it was with Rich, I’m not sure why but Casey has done a lot of interviews with people that are really not great interviewers I’m really happy to have seen this one where thoughtful questions were asked of a person who has a lot of thoughtful answers to give 🙏🏼

If you are looking for the REAL pen story extract, it's here 3:51 . And you'll see the story makes much more sense that the Short that is reedited to make him look like a *. This gift is a symbol for Casey who is a perfectionist. It might seem basic, but he puts hidden effort in it. Like the framing of the vlog, that seem "on the go" when in reality it's perfectly framed. He trusts his intern to do the job without double checking, so delegating his need for perfection. Then he discovers that seemingly on purpose the intern did skip some tasks. So he fires him. I mean in any company it would happen the same way, if the boss discovers that one product made by his company ended up looking half made, in a friend's house. It comes from "here is a silly pen, but perfectly crafted with a story because I love you" to "here is a pen". So when I read comments on the short saying that he has lost it because he has money, I think it's unfair.

Just got the end of the 'Creator Economy' section, and Casey speaks so much sense. I'm thoroughly bored of titles like "This is why you need this..." or "Your Videos Will Get More Views By Doing this...". And there's channels dedicated to maximising this kind of work. It feels like where currently stuck at looking at metrics instead of making sure we're making something good. The actual advice I'm seeing at the moment is: Come Up With A Catchy Title and then Make The Thumbnail, before you even make the video. I get packaging is important, and I'm definitely guilty for falling for this advice. My new mantra is: What Would Casey Do?

47:13 not to be that guy, but the year was 1997, and the highest-grossing movie of all time, Titanic, won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Other years/films were: 2003/The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King 1994/Forrest Gump 2000/Gladiator, and as Rich so astutely said, 1939/Gone With the Wind. But I also completely understand Casey's point, and I would not say that the films I listed above are considered the pinnacle of the artform of cinema. Those sorts of films are always a more personal decision.

To this very moment, I don't know that I can count on more than one hand the number of KZbinrs I've seen who have elevated "vlogging" to an art form the way Casey has. This interview is wonderful because he himself has come to realize the act of solo shooting, editing, and uploading a video *is* the art. That's it. You can't deconstruct it or outsource it without it loosing its essence. And that essence is what I aspire to as well. No, I'm not trying to copy Casey when I work on vlogs, that would be absurd! But in my own little way, I too can see it as art and care *deeply* about it, the way Casey cares about his art. And maybe-some day long into the future-actually get a tiny bit good at it. ;P

I don't know about you but my mind thinks in pictures and movies and I create these memories so I can bring what I see to life to share those moments with others.
