You just gave me the idea to use a $1 one-time use drill bit from 0.99 C store, Cheers
@robertschulke15963 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the parts need to be hardened and ground to dimension. Some grease on the moving surfaces would help as well. Using a tungsten carbide bit would help as well.

For a bus.... Drilling will require probably several hundred drill bits. As mentioned below, the bits are dull after about 50 rivets.
@raymondw78753 жыл бұрын
This tool worked well for about the first 50 rivets for me. Then the fluting on the side of the bit wore on the part it passes through allowing the bit to walk and no longer stay centered. I think an improved design would be to use a bit that does not have fluting on the side. After 100 rivets I found this tool to be useless (in fact defeating the purpose of it's use) and am reverting to the center punch and drill method you show in your earlier videos.
@dcdvs15833 жыл бұрын
Raymond you hit the head on the Rivet hehe. Yes you are right. I noticed the same thing as well after 75+ rivets on a window frames. I found punching the center first helps with the walking of the bit but it won’t stop it 100%. Also I agree with either the fluting needs to be changed or the bit itself should be removable from the thread insert. Maybe add a allen retention pin to the thread insert so the drill bit can be changed out easier and make it more cost effective when the bits have to be changed out.

What if you don't have access to the opposite side? I guess the back of the rivet just falls down where can rattle around.
@dcdvs15832 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be correct, but depending on insulation install most likely you wouldn’t hear the rattle. Plus when in camp or just parked you shouldn’t hear any rattle at all.

Would you recommend this for removing rivets on travel trailers and aluminum boats?
@dcdvs15832 жыл бұрын
Ya I would. It works well on any rivet no matter the type of application. Depending on the amount of rivets needed to be removed, will depend on how many drill bits you will need as the bits wear out every 40-50 rivets. Very simple to use and makes the process easy if it’s your first time trying to remove rivets. Thanks for watching

Will this removal tool drill out pop rivets & Olympic rivets?
@dcdvs15833 жыл бұрын
Technically yes you could on both. The pop rivet would be as easy as it gets when removing the rivet compared to buck rivet or Olympic rivet. This tool works well keeping aligned as long as the bit cut still has a bite or sharp cutting edge. As it gets dull you will find the drill bit wanting to walk to one side of the rivet from center. Only two ways to avoid that is by either center punching the rivet prior(which kinda defeats purpose of this tool) or replace the bit about every 75 rivets to avoid walking which can become costly depending how many rivets need to be removed. I found my earlier method by center punch and regular drill works just as good if you meticulously take your time. The chisel from the side works well too and any scuff marks you make during removal will polish out if you are polishing the exterior, otherwise you will see them if it is not polished out.
