I outran several cops in my youth and never got caught doing it. I had a few basic criteria when deciding whether to run or not. 1. If the cop is already behind you on your bumper, don’t even try. 2. If he’s headed in the opposite direction and you’re doing over 80 Go baby go😁

Charlie Harris unless you’re in Texas and the speed limit is 85?
@charlie156275 жыл бұрын
Winton Huang if the speed limit is 85 Then why would the cop come after you when you’re only doing 80? Anyway, the rule still applies. The time it takes to slow down from 80, turn around and accelerate back up to 80. Puts you a quarter mile down the road anyway. If you hammered it as soon as you saw the cop. That distance grows even more. If you can’t lose a cop with a quarter mile + lead. You have no business even trying to lose a cop in the first place.

I turn into an industrial area and park my car between a fence and another car (Kind of crooked). My girlfriend and I see him shoot past the building twice before we pull out and back onto the road the cop initially came down. I remember the burnout marks north of the GSP gas station... I used to work in Nyack and traveled that way for cheap NJ gas. Makes total sense now. Our 'track' was Rt210 (17A) between Tuxedo and Greenwood Lake known as "The Mountain." Several miles of curves with elevation changes and no side streets. One way in. One way out. Guys would position at each end with CBs and we'd have miles of 'safer' racing since we knew if anybody was coming the other way. ToddD in his Firebird 400, John Mc in a 2 liter Weber Bug that dusted IROCs. Shawn in an IROC. Jon E in whatever land-yacht he had at the time. A family of brothers in Mopars... 340 tri-power, 440 six pack we'll call them Ralph, Mike, and Dan. Me in a Scirocco... memory lane... and in the winter, when the lake would freeze solid. Yep, ice racing and completely legal (at that time). 120+mph on ice with street tires. E-brakes at 80 were never as much fun.

@lurk79675 жыл бұрын
yea this just shows how much of a hypocrite your average cop is. A lot of them are gearheads, some maybe even thought they would be able to drive fast on the job daily(not nowadays maybe in the 70's) and this mentality worked well because there was a lot more respect for police and a lot less fear of getting something stupid like a speeding ticket things were better before speeding became the main source of revenue for police. Now even if they are gearheads, they will routinely stop people and ticket enough to make their quotas I mean interaction minimums or whatever bullshit these fuckers wanna call it nowadays. If you did get pulled over the cop would have come up to your door with an attitude like you almost just ran over an orphan kid but if you did as much as wave your hand in the rearview he would berate you for showing an attitude in front of all mighty law enforcement. But then your buddy would have flashed his badge and that pigs whole mentality would have changed he knows you can't do anything to him if you get a ticket but if the tickets another cop or a cops friend that could be trouble in your work life Because police officers don't get tickets for a reason(they fucking suck) and as mad as we are when we get a ticket, a police officer is about 10x angrier because Police don't get tickets ever! they are surely above that nonsense in there eyes. Its an extremely difficult job that people are routinely undertrained and understaffed, but that does not excuse the Us vs Them and revenue first mentality Police seem to have in this day and age, and honestly, I lose sleep over it which is fucked.

He’d see reds and blues come out as he passed an overpass. Not long after he’d see the “Welcome To Virginia” sign and keep his foot to the floor. Said that brick of a car would momentarily lift the front end so much that his steering was useless. “Like the rocking of a boat at that speed” he says. Interstate conversation between police didn’t exist like today, and once he hit Virginia, the pursuit stopped.

"Successfully evaded." Best run from the cops term ever used on KZbin. Leave it to Rob Ferretti to coin it.

I put the brake lights in my street car on a toggle switch, it's really helpful when they can't see you brake before a turn.

Been there and done that!. Living most of my 64 years in Bergen County I am very familiar with that section of the garden state parkway. Sadly, I totaled my six month old 75 351 Torino on that same section. I hit black ice while racing, spun around twice and literally tore both bumpers off the car as I was hitting the guard rail. Although it was very costly to me, a good time was had by all. We literally got out and walked away. I love listening to all your stories. When the cops showed up I was told I had a choice. They could write me a report for my insurance company. That would also entail numerous violations or they could just called us a flatbed. I took the flatbed.
