Great save, and that "oh shit" face is hilarious. This video is the textbook case as to why anyone should never drive at the limit in TF, you never know what is happening ahead. In this case, as you said, going faster would've ended a lot worse for you. Always have a safety margin so that you can react as best you can in this kind of moment.

I think one of the main points to take from these type of incidents is not to panic. Any hard inputs could backfire, so to roll with what you have and keep the car as straight as you did, was by far and away the best opportunity to avoid disaster. Well driven Robert, some quick judgement there whether you were concious of it or not 👍🏻

You said it Robert.... seat time, seat time and seat time. Always stay calm, look where you want to go and stay of the brakes. If you’re looking at the barrier, you’re going into the barrier. Even i m a beginner I can explain a mistake I did on nos the same way. I had a couple of car safety trainings that helped me to make this decisions. Shot version: 1. I'm probably to fast for this corner / steering in to the apax and softly braking 2. I'm definitely too fast / car understeers a lot 3. open up the steering wheel and going for middle of the corner / still understeer 4. hit the breaks hard because I'm losing control / thinking: don't steer in more, it doesn't bring back the grip (missed to open up the steering) 5. Try to go for the outline of the corner / ABS and ESP are working hard ( lucky that I'm let them on ) 6. finally the speed become such slow that the frontend gets grip while ABS are working. If I can explain desicions I made in many 1 or 2 sec. You, Robert, can do it even more. And you made better desicions then I did. P.S. this happens on my 3 lap ever at slowest corner on Adenauer Forst. P.S. this car safety trainings I did were very helpful !!! P.S. I was not thinking of unsettle the car. May be this is the difference to an experienced driver like Robert

One question: why every one explains the best line on the ring but not breaking points? In my opinion the are more important for beginners like me
@Tristan.R.J.M3 жыл бұрын
@@tobiasz9090 maybe because a brakingpoint is comprised of many more variables and therefore subjective. Variables wich when done right allow for a certain line. A line wich will bring you comfortably from entry to exit. A line you will miss if your braking is too late. I’ve done more laps with this instruction than without. No regrets, so much fun. Seems like you enjoy it too!
@tobiasz90903 жыл бұрын
@@Tristan.R.J.M you're right if you go for lap times. I was thinking about beginners, don't care about 50cm but 2m. If you get a powerful car you got better breaks and tiers. So the braking point should be similar. Misha told me breaking points as an instructor, hopefully I can remember a lot of them. Yes, I have fun on the nos. It's maybe the only change to use all the power on an street that's similar to an country road without fear of losing my driver's license...

This is why I like riding my XT 250 in the dirt. It’s great cross training and makes my street riding better in so many ways. Sliding around turns using the throttle or making quick reactions through the bumps to keep it smooth, you can get more excitement in a couple of hours of dirt than a years worth of responsible street riding. Even track days don’t let you ride with the same “looseness” that is normal in the dirt. Those skills can serve you well in situations where you have to rely on instinct and are purely reacting. It’s great cross training.

Great analysis of a scary situation... No one no matter how good they are can control a car that's sliding on oil/coolant... There's a few micro seconds where you have to think / react and execute ( training) and then luck comes into play. It seems like everything you did or didn't do led to you not hitting the barrier and once you stopped bouncing all over the grass/gravel you checked the rear view mirrors and drove back onto the track... This was a combo of doing the right thing and not doing the wrong thing in equal amounts... Glad your OK that's what matters most and glad car was not significantly damaged. Such a horrible feeling being in a car that's sliding and you know there's nothing you can do. Interesting facial expressions also. 😉🤔😁

Well done Robert this just shows that instinct as a driver pays dividends, this skill separates those who can drive fast in a straight line to those who can save a car in a split second under challenging always changing conditions, for me as a driver you have this skill or you simply do not, this is what separates a proper driver, especially the do I bin it or try to save it and always thinking of others before yourself, if I might hit them I will bin it, if not then try the save, I have had instances like this on our local track and to be honest it separates the ones who have it to the ones who do not it is night and day!
