For Indian weddings, MUA is often thousands because they don’t just do makeup… they basically are in charge of making every detail of the brides makeup, outfit, pinning the dupatta, doing the draping, literally everything, is perfect. It’s crazy how much they charge, but they know they have a niche.
@whatever3145Ай бұрын
Yeah but he isn't talking about them. They do full body henna that is wildly intricate and takes hours to do. Of course you'd pay them more. I wish we saw more poor Indian people. Every Indian wedding I see is for rich people. Id love to see how poor people get it done bc im sure alot of diy is involved

I follow an Indian bridal makeup artist and she often does makeup (and all the other things you mentioned) for longer celebrations over the course of a few days, rather than just one day. So she's usually doing 3 completely different makeup and hair styles, plus staying at a hotel near the wedding.

that totally makes sense. But unless it was specified I assumed it was some random western artist. Knowing all the incredibly detailed things indian brides need done (like the henna) I can understand it costing into the thousands.... Do these MUAs do the henna as well? I thought it was a specific henna artist but I'm obviously not indian so can only go by my friends and colleagues' experiences.... where I admittedly got really worried about them, using cinnabar on their forheads and gallium and lead in their khol--all are super toxic heavy metals, especially cinnabar which is basically organic mercury that easily dissolves into your skin, and anything on a mucus membrane like the eye is just as good as swallowing! 🥺

$6k for just the makeup is a bit much if it’s just the bride, but that guy pissed me off with the way he started speaking, especially when he said “lazy.” I’m not married, but weddings are stressful! The amount of money for everything, the planning, the seating arrangements, the flowers, etc… Dude needed to keep his mouth shut about calling people lazy for hiring a makeup artist.

Additionally if the bride has any physical issues - tremors, vision problems, color blindness, etc.
@lafleurdhiverАй бұрын
Yeah, he lost me when he said that. I did my sister's makeup for her wedding (she bought the makeup products), and even though I was honored, it was stressful as hell lmao. I barely had time for my makeup before I had to head down for the ceremony. 😅 My sister had people around her whom she trusted to do her hair and makeup, and we agreed to it since it would help remove costs that could go elsewhere. My sister essentially never wears makeup and would NOT have been able to teach herself to do her makeup to a level that would have looked appropriate for that day. Like yes, people finding these videos are most likely those who consume beauty content, but most people are not intensely involved or interested in makeup, and that's okay! I'd probably advise against $6k unless it was a VERY specific circumstance, but there's a reason people will hire professionals who have experience with weddings, and it's not a failing on the person for determining that they need to hire someone to make their vision come true.

I thought the "how lazy are you" was really strange. It really had the mansplaining vibe from someone who doesn't know makeup but also doesn't know anything about how planning a wedding or any big event works. Forget being the bride, im not sure I have time to figure out my makeup situation even as a moh or a relative involved in the planning. It's so much work. And if you're not into glam, just buying all the products you need for long lasting makeup, all at once, will run you a few 100 bucks. Even more so now where even drugstore makeup is more than 10 bucks per item. Then there's carrying everything you might need to the hotel or venue. God forbid the wedding is not in your hometown, then you're gonna have to travel with all that. It's hardly a question as to why you'd rather someone do your makeup and pamper you a bit on the day of.
@bleuumscarlett7977Ай бұрын
If you want to be dolled up by someone for a special event, it's not lazy or stupid! A professional knows how to do make up for photos or based on the lighting, like your everyday make up might look horrible under some lights 🙈. Sure 6k is not something i would ever pay for make up, but if i was stupid rich, maybe i would 😂
@JennilynneАй бұрын
Yeah, part of the appeal (probably one of the biggest parts, really) of having your makeup done is it just being one less thing for you to have to stress about. Seemed awfully rude of him to just imply that it's pure laziness or that they don't know how to do it themselves/don't want to learn. There's also so many things that you need to take into account for doing your makeup for a wedding too like will it show up well in photos, lighting, will it be an outside wedding or inside, etc.
@tammystilettoАй бұрын

12:24 I 100% agree $6k for wedding makeup is crazy. But depending on the size of the wedding party (idk what it’s like in other countries) but in the US it’s not uncommon for some people to have large wedding parties sometimes up to 10 people (maid of honor, brides main & flower girl) not including the bride, the mother of the bride & MIL’s. So that’s roughly 13 faces (flower girls aren’t getting full face, maybe some lip gloss, a little blush & maybe mascara depending on the age). Then travel, if it’s a 2-3 hour drive (a location wedding), that would also most likely need a hotel stay, depending on the drive/distance, time of the wedding, if it’s at 10am, then they’ll need to start early & be there early. That where the Hotel comes in at. If it’s a late wedding, driving back late, etc. Then if it’s a large wedding party, the main MUA will need an assistance or 2, so including travel etc for them. Then the “practice round” of makeup. And in the US they usually have a dinner the night before the wedding & sometimes the MUA does the makeup for that. So I can see how it all adds up quickly. Plus the cost of the MUA’s experience. If they are a seasoned MUA, they’re gonna charge more vs one who’s less experienced.

I had three make up trials for my wedding and hated everything they did. One claimed to be a MUA and was…for a Chanel concession. She only had Chanel make up so didn’t have the colours I needed or wanted, and everything she did was really old fashioned. Another only used powder mineral make up on my dry skin and I looked like I’d fallen face first into a pot of powder. I decided to do it myself and while I was looking for a lipstick in John Lewis, I happened upon an amazing girl at Urban Decay. I explained what I was looking for and why, and she sat me down and gave me so many tips. She spent ages with me and helped me have the confidence to do it myself on the day. My friend actually booked a Benefit tutorial, but if you go when it’s quiet, there are some amazing MUAs hiding away in the concession stands who will be more than happy to show you how to use their products. I do wish I’d had the experience of a professional doing it for me on the day, but I loved my make up at my wedding in the end. I think it pays to put a bit of pre-thought and research in, just to make sure it lasts and looks good for the pics.

6k for a make up is a lot but i also think the guy just pulled that number out of his ass as an excuse to complain about something that doesnt affect him. i also think that yes, you can go on youtube, or pay for a lesson to teach yourself but... it is not purely about just the skill right. Its also about the product. For example i don't wear foundation but if i would like to do a full glam for my wedding day i would need it. If i pay a make up artist, not only I know that they will be able to match my shade, but that they will bring a primer and a setting spray and a powder and contour and bronzer and whatever else i dont have in my kit that i would have to buy for this one occasion and never use again.
@MxchiefMaykrАй бұрын
Yesss I was thinking about that too! Also they are likely to have better products for the specific needs of something like bridal makeup than most people would, so even if you have all the basics they're probably gonna have a foundation that lasts better over the day without needing touch ups or makeup that both looks good irl and doesn't have flashback in photos. You're paying for the experience, the expertise, and the products. Plus even if the figure he pulled out is accurate, that's definitely not average and it's likely either for a celebrity wedding or for something like a several-days long and many people wedding (think classic Indian wedding), and would probably also include hair and the expenses for travel. He also could absolutely have seen a figure in a different currency and been so US brained he didn't consider other countries have their own currency and that that could be like... $200USD or something when converted

I’ve learned a lot from you in general and from Korean makeup trends. I’m more into subtle make up and taking care of my skin so I don’t have to have spend on foundation.

The gentleman that said the bit about paying for makeup for a wedding event…has never planned a wedding, guarantee. He’ll find out if he ever has to that a team of hair and makeup artist are worth every penny, especially ESPECIALLY if you have a large bridal party, event, and pictures. Trust me, you want an experienced professional who understands lighting and longevity to help you through your day, some artist even stay to do touch ups, or give u a mini kit if they did something like mix your lip color. The right team makes the day so much better(if thats what you want), Also, for some, it can take a min to be comfortable and consistent with makeup, and tutorials are helpful buuuut less stress on wedding day is a bonus. I am not a makeup artist but have planned 3 weddings for family and friends.

I agree regarding the guy saying to just do your own makeup. Not everyone can, and you are paying for their expertise! Surely that’s common sense! Also, I need a lesson with you so I can do my own 😅

I can see the perspective of the person saying just learn to do your makeup and do it yourself, but also that same logic can be applied to anything and everything else you pay for in life.

6k is crazy, agree. But to say "just do it yourself" when that same inflation applies to everything wedding. We could all bake a cake, buy and arrange flowers, learn to sew and take pictures and decorate. Why are we singling out makeup? If you want a DIY wedding, go ahead. Let's not disparage professionals or their work though. I could spend years practicing and not accomplish what MUAs so.

7:46 YES, two mascaras FTW! I’ve been using two different mascaras at a time for a few years. My favorite one for volume is a Mexican brand, Apple. But it can be a little wet, especially when it’s new, so I pair it with a mascara that defines & separates, extra points if it also lengthens. My two favorites for that are Glossier’s Lash Slick & Benefit’s Rollerlash. Two mascaras is a game changer!

That lip stain on the temples hack is giving how to give yourself hollow temples 💀
@standdownrobots_ihaveoldgloryАй бұрын
As someone with actual hollow temples & plenty of natural contour, WHY IN GODS NAME DO PEOPLE WANT TO LOOK SKELETAL??? I feel like the freaking crypt keeper & it’s not cute (I have health issues that make me thin but it’s mostly not life threatening). I’d give anything for some plump in my face - gaunt isn’t aesthetically as pleasing as a face with some roundness. I’m playing with matte highlighter trying to downplay my hollows…which look like actual missing chunks of my head since my glasses create an optical illusion 😂 hmmm maybe if I apply a really light stain there 😂😂😂 and why the peel off kind…a nice soft lip tint stain would certainly work better. Also is lipstain even sweat proof? You’d have to know specifically what breaks down that stain before using it

I am getting married next year and hiring a professional MUA bc I want to look amazing and also get pampered for my big day. Weddings are very stressful, people who work in the industry must have a special skill to deal with bridezillas, groomezillas, momzillas of the bride, auntzillas...

The dude at 10:10 pissed me off so much. Makeup is HARD. Professionals exist for a reason. It's not just watch a tutorial and bam you're as good as a professional. I would like to see him try to apply makeup. & yes, pls mansplain me harder daddy 🙄 Can we not trivialize yet another thing that women frequently like & not dismiss the fact that brides want to look beautiful on their wedding day? Which is also widely socially sanctioned? He needs to stop commenting on things he doesn't understand. 6k is also not the usual price (excluding indian bridal makeup which is far more than "just" makeup & is wildly intricate)

I did my own hair and makeup for my wedding, but I got married on a cruise ship before it left port. We couldn't afford a honeymoon, so my family paid for this instead of a regular wedding, and I think it was still cheaper than my sister's. Now, I did have an advantage in that I was forced to go to modeling classes because my sister wanted to be a model, and my parents trusted me to make sure nothing bad happened. Thus, I was thrust into a world of makeup and hair even though I was a tomboy who didn't want anything to do with those topics. 😂
@kinashy8863Ай бұрын
I like how the first person explains everything. It feels like it's ok to not know those things. In second video i think it's a good idea to use lip stain as a contour. I wanted to do it for a long time but I don't have a lip stain yet. I aggre with you on the video about wedding makeup but i also want to add that having a wedding is busy and stressful so if there's anything that someone can do for you it's not lazy. I hate the word "lazy" and i think there's always a valid reason for not doing something but especially in situations like this. Also this person makes it sound like even someone who never did any makeup, never watched other people doing their makeup and doesn't have any makeup at home can easily learn to do beautiful full makeup just by watching makeup videos for a week or few I think the person that colored half of their face a pale color showed it well. Imo the whole point was that the same color of the lips (at the end two halves of the lips have exactly the same color) look different compared to the rest of the face

Re: wedding make up! I did my own makeup for my wedding. Did research via tutorials (based on stuff I liked and hooded eyes, etc). Bought quality products (that I continued to use afterwards) and did many trials. Spent some of that mua money on facial, skin treatment. Doing my own makeup gave me a nice peaceful moment to myself and something I could control.

My sister did my makeup, in fact, my sisters and I did each other’s makeup for all our weddings. Professional makeup artists did trials on us and it was so bad, we were safer doing our own. I have an olive/grey undertone and every MUA has put orange foundation on me! And we didn’t have KZbin (yes we are old( back then so we did everything through trial and error! The way to save up on a wedding is to do a small event.x) We paid like 1 000€. Most of that was the venue and food, which was a simple lunch type of food + cake. I bought a nice suit and did my own makeup. We only invited close family and friends.
